Chapter. 1A She didn't want marriage. For her, it was just something that binded her to some unknown guy that was supposedly her "soul mate". Did they even exist? How can someone just assume that he/she is their soulmate without even having any solid proof? As far as she knew, they existed'in the pages of a fairytale. In real life, it couldn't be proven that they existed. Marriage was nothing more than a boundary for her, binding her to that one guy she was supposed to spend her entire life with. No couple was perfectly happy with their marriage, her parents were proof of that. Heer never believed in soulmates but she was ironically a firm believer in true love, which meant understanding each other and never judging the other'something akin to soulmates but not entirely. Right?
Her parents weren't divorced but they weren't a "couple" exactly either. Teji and Balraj got married because of their parents wish, no love was shared between them, at least not anymore. They were in love when they were young and newlyweds. Their trust and love grew each day, looking as if it would never end, or so it seemed. His urges to make money and more money left her alone at home with her two daughters, Heer and Rinki. While Heer was a quiet gal that didn't bother her parents, Rinki was the complete opposite, always energized and ready to cause havoc, in a way causing her father to drift farther and farther from the family.
"Talking about Rinki, where is she?" Heer whispered in the cold living room. Her long black hair was pulled in a loose ponytail, her big brown eyes accented by her mascara and eyeliner. She was looking simply divine in her green anarkali suit. So lost she was in her thoughts about the past that she didn't even notice when the clock struck 10 AM, it was a Saturday and as a tradition Rinki would visit the orphanage some 15 minutes away from their home. The door opened and a voice called out, "Im home honey!". Heer smiled as her little sister came in view, her long hair falling down her back in light waves, her dark brown eyes smiling at her sister excitedly.
"So your finally back, how did it go?" Heer asked getting up to heat the food for her sister. Rinki smiled and stood at the end of the sofa with her hands behind her back, moving her body from left to right, looking at Heer mischieviously. Glancing at Rinki suspiciously, Heer placed the food down on the table and stood with her hands on her hips, her eyebrow raised. Rinki walked forward and started whistling while taking out a letter from behind her back. Watching her sister's expression, trying really hard not to laugh at Heer's wide eyes and the way she twiddled with her thumbs. "Hmm...guess what this is di! Looks like someone got a letter...pretty important no?" Rinki said teasingly, stepping back when Heer moved forward, her hand reaching for the envelope.
Heer chased her sister around the living room and finally both fell on the sofa, laughing breathlessly. Heer looked at the letter in her hands, her nervous gulp audible in the silent room. She closed her eyes and breathed slowly, opening her eyes she pushed the letter in Rinki's hands and nodded her head to the letter. Shaking her head, Rinki opened the letter and read the content carefully. Within a minute she was done, staring up at her sister with wide eyes, a shake of her head made Heer sigh tiredly. "Di now you'll have to get up at 6 to get ready for your work and stay at the office till three! How in the world are you going to survive without me and my mastiness?" Rinki started to say as if delivering morbid news, shaking her head as if flooded with grief, the smirk on her lips though sang a different tune.
"Rinki you scared the **** out of me!! OMG!!! Rinks...im now officially working for the most happening magazine in the world, the most happening fashion house in the world, im working for the Real World-Real Designs aka RWRD" Heer spoke excitedly. Her sister smiled, for once Heer was happy and the thoughtful and stubborn Heer was gone and in her place, for a moment Rinki witnissed her old Di, the bubbly and sweet Heer that was now gone, just like the wind came and left, the day came and left to make room for the night. Rinki buried herself into the past, where the Maan's were still a happy go lucky family, and now she was left wishing that she had never made the mistake...the mistake that caused her family to crumble. But who was to blame really? Her mother that was always sad and depressed? Her father that was always busy with his work? Her sister that always hid herself behind the books? Or was it herself that she must blame? Just who? or rather what?
