Sajid Khan has been entertaining audiences for years with his tongue in cheek humour and fantastic mimicry. Over the years, he has hosted numerous TV shows and award shows and his directorial debut, Heyy Babyy, was a blockbuster. His brand new talk show Sajid's Superstars premieres this Saturday at 10 pm.
Why did you choose to make a talk show?
On my most of my shows, I have stood alone and spoken to the audience. Once in a blue moon, I would have a star over for a Diwali or an anniversary episode. I wanted to do a sit down talk show with celebrities in Hindi because India is largely a Hindi speaking country.
What is the talk show about? What can the audiences expect from the show?
There are so many things we see and read about stars in the gossip magazines and news channels and most of it is not true. So, the celebs will tell us their side of the story. Also, it shows their funny, humane, bitchy and emotional side. As far as the audience is concerned, they can expect pure entertainment because anything Sajid Khan, whether movies, award shows or TV shows is about entertainment. I care about nobody but my audience. So entertainment is guaranteed.
What is the format of the show?
First there is a basic chat round. Then there is 'how well do you know yourself' in which I will ask them about themselves, their films and colleagues and see how much they remember. These questions are not really personal, even the general public knows the answers… it's to see how much stars remember. Then there is a 'stars cross questions' where in one star will question the star present on the show through video. In another round, the public tells the star what they like and dislike about him/her and may request the star to do something like sing or dance. Then I show the guest their worst and best scenes to date.
If you are on my show, you have to be funny, so there is a 'sit down comedy' round where stars show their funny side and I rate them through my laugh-o-meter. Lastly, there is a 'scandal round' where the star has to choose from a kam, zyaada and a zabardast scandalous question. Depending on the card they pick, I ask a question. So the show is well segmented.
Tell us some memorable moments from the making of the show.
There are quite a few. Not many people know that Vidya Balan has a sense of humour but she has cracked some good jokes on the show. Then in the cross question round, Riteish has given Karan Johar a mooh-tod jawaab and Karan has also given Riteish a mooh-tod jawaab. Akshay Kumar's entry on the show is really funny because he tripped on the sofa and fell down.
Who all can we expect to see and who all would you like to invite?
Everyone I invited obliged me by coming on the show. In the first season of the show, you will see Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal, Anil Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi, Vidya Balan, Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Shahid Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Farah Khan, Karan Johar and Arbaaz and Malaika Arora Khan. Kareena, Saif and Shah Rukh did not have dates for the show so I will feature them in the next season.
