Titan Antakshari Grand Finale Party Sunday, March 18, All Sports Bar THIS party was held to celebrate the grand finale of Zee TV's Titan Antakshari. Sharad and Kirti Kelkar of 'Saloni Ke Deewane' team won the final round and surely had every reason to celebrate. They did celebrate, and how! The couple was spotted dancing away to the music for most of the night.

They were joined by the members of the other teams, co-stars and friends. One of the youngest party revellers was Lil' Champ runner-up Sameer, who easily struck up a conversation with the older actors. Indraneil Sengupta came with his girlfriend Barkha and they stuck with each other throughout the evening. Himanshu of 'India's Best' fame was at his naughtiest best and nobody seemed to mind.

Sunil Pal is annoyed with Zee

Ace comedian Sunil Pal, the anchor of Titan Antakshari on Zee TV, is reportedly very unhappy with the channel. "A few days back I left the shoot midway. I was ill treated by Sharad and Kirti Kelkar. I did not like that. I also told the channel to continue the shoot without me," he said.

Sunil complained that this was not the first time he was being treated this way. "For every little thing I am blamed. I want to use my creativity for the show but they do not let me do so. I'm also asked to call up people if they are reluctant to come on the show," said a seething Sunil.

Is he going to withdraw as an anchor? "I've told the channel that if they are ready to work with me in a dignified way, only then will I continue with the show," he clarified.Sunil is not too worried about Antakshari because he is busy with films like Bombay to Goa, and Feroz Nadiadwala's Fool and Final.

Music for a cause

Amitabh Bachchan participated in the special episode of Titan Antakshri for visually-challenged participants. The superstar enthralled the children and audiences with recital of a poem 'Main prakash hoon, ajar amar andhakar ek nirav gunjan...' by Khalid Hashmi. The underlying theme of the poem was that blindness is not a drawback. When anchor Himani asked him to sing a song, his instant reaction was that it was not in the script. And yet, the man was sporting enough to say that he is not a great singer and gets butterflies in his stomach when he is asked to sing. Howevwe, he went on to croon 'Neela asman so gaya...' in his baritone voice and had the viewers and participants spellbound.

Later two visually challenged girls, Mansi and Mamta, from Smt. Kamla Mehta Dadar School for the Blind, came forward to present a letter written by them for "Amitabh Uncle". The letter had a very special message for Bachchan and his ailing mother. Catch the touching episode on March 30 on Zee at 8.30 pm.

Sunil Pal out of Titan Antakshari!

Rumour mills quote that now it's official. Zee has hit the final nail in Titan Antakshari's coffin. Sunil Pal will no longer anchor this musical as the differences have grown too wide to bridge. News of his impending ouster were floating since a month when Sunil Pal had complained about being ill treated on the sets and there were feelers that even the channel was planning to replace him. Both the parties went into a denial mode then.

Sunil had then quoted to the media that he was forced to leave the shoot mid- way as he was disrespectfully treated by celeb guests Sharad and Kirti Kelkar. He has since warned the channel about the same. However no heed was paid to the anchor and his role was further slashed to making pre-functionary calls to participants who were reluctant to come on the show. Also, the two anchors Himani Kapoor and Sunil Pal have had their own share of conflicts where the lady went on record to share her grievance about his uncouth behaviour.

However the story is incomplete with out the basic problem that the show itself is not doing well. The TRP's are dipping and it was unfair of the channel to expect a comedian to sing and entertain at a music based show.

A while ago Sunil had sent a warning that if things didn't improve faster he would be through with the show. We guess the time has come! Sunil Pal, Himani and the show's creative head, Santosh Sende were unavailable for comment.

Why Karan replaced Sunil in 'Titan Antakshari'
Pal's altercations with co-host Himani and celebrity guest Rajshree Thakur are cited as the apparent reasons They wanted to make the show more musically-inclined –Karan Oberoi

IN a sudden twist of events, comedian Sunil Pal has been replaced by actor-singer Karan Oberoi as the anchor of 'Titan Antakshari' (Zee). Sunil, who has maintained a calm front about the issue, despite word doing the rounds that the ouster was not a very pleasant one, clarifies his stance saying, "I had a wonderful time doing 'Antakshari'. I was supposed to do only the first season; the decision about the second season was to be taken later. When the decisive moment came, they said that they required format changes. That would have taken too much of my time. I'm basically a stand-up comedian.
While hosting 'Antakshari', I was losing out on plum opportunities, primarily stage shows.

That's when I decided to quit." But what about rumours of Sunil's altercations with cohost Himani and actor Rajshree Thakur who participated in the show? Sunil replies, "Contrary to popular notion, I was not ousted. I do not deny my altercations with Himani. I was also quite angry when Rajshree strolled in unreasonably late.

But now that I'm no longer doing the show, I don't see a point in digging up graves!" Aashish Kaul, senior vice president of Zee says, "We tried to combine Sunil's humour with Himani's singing talent to boost the audience response.

But Sunil, with due respect to his talent, did not live up to our expectations. Sunil was not being able to spare much time either." New host Karan's claim to fame has largely been his friendship with 'Jassi' Mona Singh. Karan says, "The show is a huge responsibility. The fact that I replaced Sunil is something I don't give much importance to. I respect Sunil as an amazing performer. Apparently, they wanted to move away from the humorous format and make the show more musicallyinclined and energetic. The show involves kids and I'm simply crazy about them! In fact, I had a ball shooting for the first episode with the 'Little Champions'," says Karan.

Karan is also excited about the telly-project that his pro duction company is putting together and the music album that will feature Mona, who Karan reveals is an amazing singer!

Actor and singer Karan Oberoi talks about Mona Singh, marriage and his first anchoring job on TV to A. L. CHOUGULE

Is Antakshiri your first anchoring job on television?
It is but I am not new to anchoring. As a member and singer of Band of Boys I have done lot of anchoring for our shows over the past six years. We double up as hosts for our shows and enjoy it a lot.

Q. What contribution will you bring with you to the show?
It is a very good show because its main ingredient is music. So far the game show has been done in a traditional way. But with me taking over the show as host it will undergo a lot of changes. It will become much bigger, better and different. As a host I will also be singing, dancing, communicating and interacting with the participants, studio audience and viewers. In fact, I will be using all my stage experience to make Antakshiri different with lot of fun and games. The show is going to rock and I will be its rock star.

Q. But does it bother you that you are replacing someone for the job?
No, it doesn't. To me it's a new show with a new format. Antakshiri is a huge brand and it doesn't belong to any one person. It's a new responsibility on my shoulders. I have taken up the job with a smile on my face and I am working hard on it. I have a feeling that it will work for me.

Q. Post-Jassi why did you keep away from television for more than a year?
To me mediocrity is death. I am quite passionate about things I choose to do. If something doesn't interest me I might as well not do it at all. Instead I prefer to sit at home and enjoy my life because I have the choice of not doing stuff that doesn't interest me. The kind of mediocrity that's going on TV for the past seven years is appalling. I would have made obnoxious amounts of money by doing dailies but I chose not to work because I would not have enjoyed it at all.

Q. Didn't Jassi degenerate into a typical daily family soap?
Well, when I joined Jassi it was a hugely popular show and I had a great time playing the role of a musician. While doing Jassi I also travelled a lot for Band of Boys. But one fine day I realised that the show had taken a turn for the worse. The fact that the character I played died before the show ended should answer the question.

Q. You mean you were disappointed?
Yes. This is why Raghav died.

Q. It is said that you and Mona are all set to tie the knot. Did she recently visit your parents in Chandigarh to seek their blessings?
I also read about this in the papers. In fact, I get to know about what happens in mine and Mona's life through the papers. I also get to hear from people about what's happening in my life (laughs).

Q. Is marriage on the cards?
No, it is not. Mona has Bollywood ambitions and I have music aspirations. Marriage will have to wait till we realise our own individual ambitions.
