Time bomb exploded

Time Bomb, the much-awaited action thriller, exploded on Zee TV on June 20. The action packed weekly will air every Monday at 10 pm. Directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker, Ketan Mehta, Time Bomb has a gripping storyline which unfolds in the matter of a day. A one hour series, Time Bomb is a weekly of 25 episodes.

The serial is an international political thriller of global terror with its epicenter in South Asia. Says Mehta, "It is an earnest attemp to depict reality as we see it." Its protagonist Varun played by Rajiv Khandelwal, is a special agent of an exclusive, secret, multi-disciplinary intelligence agency created under the PMO to deal with terrorism and related matters known to the very few as ACT - Agency to Counter Terrorism (a division of RAW). For Rajiv who has played the soft mushy role of Sujal in Kaahin To Hoga, this is a complete contrast. "I unlearnt whatever I had learned earlier and approached this role afresh," admits Rajiv.

Returning to the story, the young and dynamic Prime Minister of India, Aniruddha Prakash, is woken up from his sleep. Varun is waiting to inform him about an imminent crisis. As per the latest intelligence report there is reason to believe that there will be an assassination attempt on the Prime Minister of India anytime soon.

Varun requests the Prime Minister to cancel all his appointments and engagements for the day. The PM rejects the request. India will not succumb to terrorists' threats. The Prime Minister will stick to his programme.

Then Varun gets an informer's message which shakes him up further. The terrorist (Osama) has planned to commemorate the attack on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon, and is planning a terrorist's act much grandeur in scale. He wants to create simultaneous chaos across the globe. He is promising "a change in the World Order".

This creates additional pressures for the security agencies. They have to protect the Prime Minister of India from the unknown assassins, simultaneously they have to try and stop the terrorists from carrying out their plans to destabilize the world.

Varun soon realizes that the plot to assassinate the Prime Minister is only a distraction ploy to keep the intelligence agencies busy. He realizes that the actual plan of the terrorists (Osama) is to simultaneously explode nuclear devices in Washington, London, Tel-Aviv and New Delhi. These explosions will destroy the four capital cities, and the entire global power structure will collapse.

Despite the political tangles, bureaucratic hiccups, inter-departmental rivalries and personality clashes, the Indian intelligence agencies rise courageously, race against time to meet the challenge and backup Varun and the Special Operations Cell to overcome the crisis and stop the terrorists from detonating the bomb.

Varun Awasthi is a Senior Field Officer at RAW. He is a part of a special wing of RAW known as ACT (Agency to Counter Terrorism). His background is of an army officer who was made a part of RAW and was sent as an undercover agent to Afghanistan to penetrate Al-Queda. After the US attacks on Afghanistan he was brought back to Delhi and since then he has been working as a senior field officer. Varun is a dedicated patriotic secret service agent. Under this kind of work pressure his relation with his wife Roma has got affected and they have separated since last few months.
