I have stuck with a lot of loopholes in this show just because I love DE but for me I think what made me hate the finale so much was Elena's "I care about you" esp after in the same episode she told Matt that Damon consumes her, compared to that care is such a trivial emotion and he was dying at that time.She didn't have to drop the L word on him but she could have done better than just care imo. I get that Elena still has unresolved feelings for Stefan and I honestly never wanted Elena to go back to Stefan once she chooses Damon so yeah I get that the writers did what they did to try and hold off DE as long as possible but this time they did it in such a contrived way, it was the first for DE cause upto s3 no matter how many flaws the show had for me DE was flawless but after s3 I really can't say that anymore and this saddens me and I dread there will be more of those contrived plots for s4 like how they're gonna make Elena say Stefan was the right choice cause he let her die- I know Elena's self sacrificing and all that but the fact that they're gonna use that to prop SE is maddening and even disturbing to me. They regressed Elena soo much for me in one epi, I just can't. I need to see her pine, long, fight, struggle, for Damon instead of how it's always Damon doing the chasing and pining, cause imo you can't truly love each other if you don't desire each other the same way and Elena needs to prove that to Damon and to me before I give this show another choice and oh no more contrived plots when DE is concerned.

It is CW, ratings don't really matter as long as it's popular and with the TVD fandom is, that is a given.😊

Really liked what @julieplec said about Elena being at fault for a lot of problems in Damon/Elena relationship. Flawed characters are A++.
