Now, a Muharram in Karbala (Ashura), that would be a sight to behold. The pilgrimage during that time/Arbaeen is the largest gatherings of people, ever; last year it was around (or over) 20 million people.

But there's so much I want to do 😆 Hajj, of course. Which Muslim doesn't want to? Visiting Medina (masjid of Nabi paak [s], Jannat-ul-Baqi); going to Iran (Qum and Mashhad) and Samarra (Iraq) and Damascus (Syria).

And Australia, lol 🤣 Seriously, I have always wanted to go to Australia, maybe even live there. Or maybe not. But seeing that country once in my life... aww 😳

I was very young when my parent took me to Karbala and Mecca. My mom tells some beautiful stories and has a lot of fond memories. I lived in Iraq for the first 3 years of my life, when it was a peaceful and a safe country.

Really? Wow, that's so cool! 😳 Well, you probably don't remember much about it... but still! The shrines are still a sight to behold - full of beauty.

InshaAllah, it will be safe and peaceful, once again - the resistant fighters are working hard for it. It is not as bad as the media let's one assume, though, at least not at the major pilgrimage sites/Shia dominant areas. In Karbala and Najaf, for example, they have check posts at every corner to ensure the safety, same in Kadhmiyya - although, around it incidents do happen, inside that area of Baghdad, it's pretty safe.

There was this slogan the fighters [against ISIS] said, I don't remember it word for word, but meaning-wise it was 'Do they [ISIS] believe they can establish a regime of tyranny on the land where the father(s) of the righteous ones rest?' Referring to Ali [a] and the sons [a] of RasulAllah [s].

Do you mind me asking, are you Muslim?

I am actually a Hindu, but have been all muslim holy shrines in India and many in Middle East. I have been to Najaf as well. My mom is well read in Quran and Bible.

I thought as much from some of your posts, just wanted to confirm it 😆 And that's awesome that you have been to these places- they are for all humanity, after all, not just "us" 😳

Have you ever been to Iran (Qum and Mashhad)? The shrine in Mashhad (of Imam Ali al-Ridha [a]) is the grandest of all of the Ahlul-Bayt (well, you can't include Jannat-ul-Baqi into this, unfortunately), understandably, and still, it's always packed full, from what I heard.

And that's nice, your mother sounds like a wonderful woman! 😳 Does she speak Arabic? I am trying to learn it though, something always seems to get in the way 😆

Never been to Iran. Been to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, and Israel.
Been to churches all over Europe as well. My mom is a very religious woman, just hasn't figured out which religion, so she follows all.😆
She does not speak Arabic but knows how to read and write Urdu and some Farsi. She understands German and Spanish but does not speak either

@bold: Now, that is one place I sincerely hope will be secure, in the near future. Haaye, Zainab [a]...

Looks like your mom loves travelling 😆 I'm rather jealous of some places you have been, I must admit. Though, do suggest Iran to your mom- if she loved Najaf and Karbala, she will adore Mashhad and Qum, I am sure. And masjid e Jamkaran 😆 And lol, that sounds interesting 😉 It's always good to gather information about other beliefs before entering one religion for sure. Maybe she will decide, at one point, who knows?

Farsi is also one language I'd love to learn. So many sources written in Arabic and Farsi... So, basically, I could talk to her in German and she'd understand it? Rather admirable all of this 😳

InshaAllah 😃

I didn't know that these holy sites were so broadly known amongst non-Muslims. But then again, considering the Muslims living in India, it's not such a huge surprise 😳 It's nice, though - "There are two kinds of people. One are your brothers [sisters] in faith, and the other your equals in humanity." ~ Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib [a] 😉

So, do you pray there (in mosques) like salah (Islamic prayer)? Sorry, if I sound ignorant but I don't know any Hindus in real-life and am curious 😳 But I think in most mosques (and Hussainiyas) there are no such restrictions; mostly, everyone is allowed to come, as far as I am aware.

If anyone is interested, I could share some pictures from my visit to Iraq 😆

On another note - does anyone have a really cute pic of Sanskar aka Varun? I'm in dire need of one! 😲
