The incarceration period allowed Sahiba to reflect on some harsh truths about her life. Truth may not always be sweet, but quite bitter at times. Nevertheless, it is the only solid foundation that one has if they do not want to fall.
She analyzed her relationship with her in-laws. No one apart from Gurleen Chachi, Jaspal Chacha and Veer genuinely cared for her. Her grandparents-in-law were not solid supporters. They needed a trophy bahu who would stay at home, and be caged in the definitions of only being a Brar bahu. Her parents-in-law still addressed her as “Yeh ladki” demeaning her existence. Her husband, the hot-headed CEO, well, the less said the better. There was one point where she thought perhaps they could gradually move on to be cordial roommates, maybe even have some respect in their relationship, but even that was too much. I know Angad you always loved Seerat Didi. Her being your first love, perhaps you will never forget her. I knew that from the start of our doomed marriage. I can’t even go to my parents now, they are not able to support me, and I would rather not cause defamation to them, lest it trickle down to Keerat. I have only one hope, and if that one hope doesn’t work out, Baba ji I am at your mercy. - Sahiba thought to herself. Images started to pop in her head, those of Seerat Di hugging Angad, the photo of Seerat and Angad addressed as a couple, Angad’s promise to Seerat to look after her, Angad putting the ring on Seerat, and finally of Angad helping Seerat from falling down during her grih pravesh. Sahiba shut her eyes. So this is what betrayal feels like. This is probably how Angad felt when he learnt the truth about Garry. Seerat Di, I didn’t realize you started having feelings for Angad, Seerat Di. I wish you hadn't been so wishy washy. Certain things are hard to reverse. Nonetheless, I have always gotten what you wanted that was within my capacity to give, and will do so again. I will free Angad from our marriage, so that you both can be happy together. No one deserves to be unhappy lifelong. - Sahiba wiped her tears and steeled her resolve.
When the case was proved to be wrong, and the culprit was apprehended, Angad along with Veer came to get Sahiba. As they exited the police station, Angad opened the car doors for Sahiba gesturing her to go in. She looked at him with a blank expression, and changed her path. Angad called out to her, and hurried to grab her arm. That was a mistake on his part. He had thought that apologizing would be sufficient, yet this time the hurt that was caused was fatal.
“Let go of my arm, before I file a harassment case on you Angad.” The chill in Sahiba’s voice frightened Angad and Veer. Veer did not want to say anything, because he felt it was not his space to speak. Plus the hurt that Sahiba has received was paramount.
“Sahiba, kya keh rahi ho?” Angad was stupefied.
“Let go of my arm, else I’ll start screaming Angad. Don’t you dare test me. I have lost all my patience.” Sahiba’s voice was menacing now.
Angad let go and Sahiba went her way. Veer consoled Angad saying, “Ho sake Bhabhi maayke jaana chahti ho. Unke saath bahut bura hua. Shyaam ko unke maayke chale jaana Paaji”.
Brar Mansion
When Angad and Veer came, everyone looked around for Sahiba. Hansraj was the first to ask about her, while Jasleen kept smirking.
“Sahiba, saath nahin aayi. Shyaam ko uske maayke jaaunga.” Angad replied.
“Mujhe toh pata hi tha, ki woh ladki nakchadi hai” Manveer added.
“Maaf karo Parjai, par aap na jo yeh har waqt Sahiba ko kosti rehti ho, woh galat hai.Woh bechari, mujrimon ki tarah jail mein band thi pichhle 5 din. Uska swabhimaan ka koi mol nahin? Usko aap sab ne diya hi kya hai? Apmaan, taane aur tiraskaar. Kyun aayegi woh? Ghar ki laxmi chali gayi.” Gurleen, who finally had it, blew her top and threw an accusatory glance at Angad. Jaspal sensed how angry Gurleen was, and escorted her away to their room.
Manveer felt humiliated after getting the reality check from Gurleen. She too, along with Inder left for their respective rooms. Daarji had a grim expression on his face, and only said, “Angad, yeh sab theek nahin hua Sahiba ke saath.” He too got up and Bebe accompanied him.
Seerat seeing her opportunity, came closer to Angad, and tried to reassure him, “Angad, don't worry. I’ll talk to Sahiba, and make her return. She doesn't realize what a good husband she has.”
“Aap rehne hi do. Jab baat apni saggi behen ke saath khade hone ki aayi thi, toh aap peeche ho gayi. Now why are you showing off? If Sahiba Bhabhi was in your place, she would have never abandoned you. Even Kiara who insulted Bhabhi so much, Bhabhi stood with her, and faced accusations of her own character.” Veer, who was annoyed, just burst out.
Angad didn't say anything, and just left for his room. He knew that the blunder he made was a massive one. He did not know how he was going to fix it.
Evening Time
Veer, agitated, came to Angad who was getting dressed to go to Sahiba's maayka.
“Paaji, gazab ho gaya hai.” Veer was frantic.
“Kya hua Veer?” Angad spoke. He was thinking how things could be even worse now.
“Paaji, abhi Keerat ka phone aaya tha. Woh sahiba Bhabhi se baat karna chahti thi. Keh rahi thi Bhabhi ka phone nahin lag raha. Un logon ko laga Bhabhi yahan hai. Maine kuch nahin kaha. But you know Keerat, we would not be able to hold her off too long.” Veer spoke in one breath.
“What? Sahiba is not in the Monga House?” Now Angad started to panic. He tried to call her again, but her phone was switched off. She didn't reply back to any of his messages. “Where could she be?” Angad said as millions of unpleasant thoughts traversed his head, and he hurried to get his car.
“Paa ji, main bhi saath chalta hoon” Veer said, joining Angad on a search to look for Sahiba.
Amritsar - Golden Temple
Sahiba during her jail time had requested to speak to her Gurudwara’s granthi. She had asked Keerat to tell him to come meet her as she was in a big problem. Sahiba explained everything right from Seerat’s elopement to the present day scenario.
The Granthi assured her that he would help. He had arranged for Sahiba to stay at the Harmandir Sahib, and with consultation from the granthis there, they were in touch with a Chandigarh based law firm. Sahiba did not want Angad to trace her to Amritsar, so she thought it was prudent to choose a law firm in a different city. The lawyers had taken her case pro bono on behalf of the granthis. Sahiba had decided to not disclose to anyone where she was. She felt at peace doing seva at Harmandir. It helped preoccupy her mind.
A Week Later
Angad received a registered mail that required his signature. He was baffled seeing the sender: Singh and Associates - Family Law. When he opened the letter, and read the contents, he felt as if the sky was going to fall on him.I t was a mutual divorce proceedings filed from Sahiba. Angad sat down with a thud. Along with the lawyer’s papers, was a letter addressed to him:
Angad,
It was not an easy decision, but it was needed. We were never happy, and could never form a mutual understanding. There were moments I had mistakenly thought otherwise, but I was quickly proved wrong. I know you still love Seerat Di. She was your 1st love. I can understand seeing her constantly reminds you of “what could have been”. I have deduced that Garry was forced into the marriage with Seerat Di, and that Seerat Di also has developed attachment towards you. I have always given Seerat Di whatever she had desired since we were kids, if it was in my capacity to do so. Today, I am freeing you from our marriage which has been an unwanted burden on you. Don't worry, no one deserves to be trapped lifelong in an unhappy marriage, that includes Garry as well. Hopefully with the dissolving of two unhappy marriages, a happy matrimony can be struck. The proceedings are a mutual divorce one, so should be quick and low key in Chandigarh. I did not want to harm the family prestige nor the brand you’ve worked so hard to create.
I apologize to everyone if I have hurt their sentiments. Convey them my regards and final Sat Sri Akaal.
