I like Dev's Character. Although he is prejudiced against Rishi, I do not think that he will stoop to the level of GC, badmouthing his own daughter and his grand daughters, in front of the people of Benaras and that too in a place of worship.
Such an elderly man, he just does not think before he opens his mouth. Just blabbers anything, just to show his might and that too with his own daughter, whom he professed to love. He only knows to throw his weight about. What is he trying to prove to the people of Benaras, that he is pure and never made a mistake.
