My life in Delhi was entirely different. I was a proper teenager who woke up early in the morning, got dressed and went to school. I wore a pinafore and had two ponytails. I returned in the afternoon and had my lunch. Delhi being unsafe for girls I was not allowed to step out of the house after 6 in the evening. I never partied with my friends. I did not socialise at all till I came down to Mumbai in 2007.

My initial days in Mumbai were a bit nervy as I was an innocent teenager unaware of the workings of the world. Television happened suddenly and I started working in a production house as an executive producer. A girl who was not allowed to get out of the house after 6 in the evening worked through the night and returned from work early in the morning. I was working round the clock. Initially people found it pretty easy to bully me but things changed gradually. This city transformed me from an innocent teenager to an independent girl. I am no longer scared to experiment in life. I owe a lot to this city.

Before I became an actress people spoke behind my back. These same people started talking sweetly after I earned fame. It is quite funny the way our society functions. However there are also friends who are true to me irrespective of me being a star or not. You meet different kind of people in life and it is all a part of your learning experience.

When people ask me if I have changed after becoming an actress, I say yes. I believe I have become a better human being. But I do have lot of similarities with the teenage Anupriya. I am a very strict person when it comes to discipline. I am organised and try to manage my work just like the old days.

Furthermore, I am a simple person and don't like to be in the limelight all the time. I recall an incident when I was out with my family and a person approached me and kept saying how much he liked my character Taani in Tere Liye. I got embarrassed. I don't want to be the highest paid actor on TV or a big Bollywood star. I like acting and will continue doing it but would like to spend a simple life. I want to go out on the streets and have chaat whenever I wish. In the future whoever enters my life I want him to be down- to- earth and generous. I would want to be with him all the time and listen to him even if he commits mistakes.
