Almost all players within the space lose eyeballs, while Colors saves its patch riding on the back of Golmaal 3.

The 2011 World Cup series has surely begun to cast its impact on the Hindi GEC space. Barring Colors, almost all players within the space have lost eyeballs, primarily due to the India-Bangladesh series that took place on Saturday, February 19. The match ran for approximately three hours, and scored a peak TVR of 2.93 (TAM, C&S 4+, All-India).

Colors piggybacked on Golmaal 3, and managed not just to save its ground for the week ended 19 February, but also added 45 GRPs to its kitty, thereby trimming down its gap with flock leader STAR Plus by a considerable margin. In Week 8, the channel stands at 283 GRPs. Colors' relative share for the week has also moved up from 18.1 per cent in Week 7, to 21.7 per cent in Week 8.

STAR Plus lost 19 GRPs during the week, garnering 299 GRPs. Its relative share also slipped from 24.2 per cent (Week 7) to 23 per cent (Week 8).

Zee TV, still occupying the third spot, fell to 210 GRPs from 219 points, while its relative channel share fell to 16.1 per cent (16.7 per cent in Week 7).

Sony's fall has been big time. The channel lost 37 points during the week, pocketing 143 GRPs. As a result, SAB TV's distance with Sony has reduced once again, even though the sibling channel lost a few grades, as well. SAB TV is at 134 GRPs this week, down from the 153 points that it had registered in the previous week, primarily due to its flagship show, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and its latest launch, Mrs. Tendulkar.

As for the channel share, Sony's pie has reduced to 11 per cent (13.7 per cent, Week 7) and SAB's has fallen to 10.2 per cent (11.7 per cent, Week 7)

Imagine TV, which had hit a century two weeks back on its GRP score card, playing on the marketing hype created for its reality property Zor Ka Jhatka, the channel has further fallen in its viewership. The channel's GRPs have fallen to 75 points in Week 8, from the 86 points that it had registered in the previous week. Its relative share has also fallen to 5.7 per cent from 6.6 per cent.

DD1 is at number 7, having added 36 GRPs to its kitty. Its relative share has gone up to 4 per cent (1.3 per cent in the previous week).

STAR One, at No 8, has registered a loss of one point from its pocket. It is at 40 GRPs, with a stable channel share of 3.1 per cent.

Sahara One is at No 9. The channel's relative share and GRPs have moved up marginally, to 31 GRPs (27 GRPs in the previous week), and 2.4 per cent (2.2 per cent in the previous week), respectively.

STAR Utsav and Zee Smile have garnered relative shares of 2.4 per cent and 0.4 per cent, respectively.

Pavitra Rishta (Zee TV) leads the list of the 10 most-watched programmes, clocking a TVR of 5.89, followed by Saathiya Saath Nibhana, and Golmaal 3 with TVRs of 5.13 and 5.03, respectively.

Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Pratigya and Balika Vadhu follow with TVRs of 4.78, 4.11 and 4.29, respectively.

Jhansi Ki Rani (3.88 TVR), Phulwa (3.79 TVR), and Tere Liye (3.78 TVR) also form part of the Top 10 list.

And the overall Hindi GECs report card shows…
February 24, 11

Even as most Hindi general entertainment channels have seen depleted ratings, Colors had added a chunk to its scorecard. As per data from TAM Media Research for CS 4+ Hindi Speaking Markets, Star Plus stands at 299 GRPs from 318 last week, with high rating shows such as 'Saathiya' and 'Pratigya', 'Yeh Rishta...' and 'Tere Liye' making it to the top 10 shows this week. Newly launched, weekday fiction show, 'Dor', has opened with a 2.25 TVR and averaged at about 2 in the first week.

At No. 3 in the GEC rung, Zee TV has shed 9 points and has grossed 210 GRPs. The second run of 'Chhoti Bahu', launched on February 15, 2011, opened with a 3.35 TVR, settling at an average of 3 in the first week. 'Pavitra Rishta' continues to rule the fiction shows and has peaked at 5.89 TVR this week. When compared to Colors, Star Plus had one movie telecast last week, 'Anjaana Anjaani', while Zee TV had two movies last week, 'Coolie' and 'Break Ke Baad', all earning less than 1 TVR each.

Next in the order is Sony Entertainment Television at 143 GRPs, down from 180 points last week, which has taken a dip after the 'Filmfare' catalyst from last week. New launches from the YRF stable, 'Khotey Sikkey' have clocked in ratings of about 1 TVR, while 'Kismat' has peaked at a 0.65 TVR in its opening week. Sony aired two movies on Sunday, 'Chak De India' (1.14 TVR) and 'Koi Mil Gaya' (0.67 TVR).

The narrowing gap between the two sister channels has lessened this week as SAB has settled at 134 points from the high point of 153 GRPs. Amongst the next group of GECs, Star One has been maintaining a steady 40 points for the last two weeks, which is a slight increase from its 35-38 mark.
