He started his career with a negative character in Mamta and then moved on to play the timid Ali in Left Right Left, a show which gave Harshad Chopda's career a shot in the arm. Akshat inAmber Dhara happened soon after, however, things did not look too bright for this young man from Gondia and he had to pull out of the show. Balaji Telefilms spotted his talent and he rose as Prem in Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil, a show he owes his popularity to; that gave the audiences the evergreen couple of Heer and Prem.

Harshad now plays the enigmatic Anurag in Tere Liye, a show which has been loved by the audiences for his role and his jodi with 'Taani' but the news of the show's abrupt end has disappointed his fans a lot. In an exclusive tte--tte with TellyChakkar the actor shares his disappointment and his views on life:

Your thoughts on Tere Liye ending?
It's a very incomplete feeling. I feel I have put a lot of hard work, a lot of me into something which has not completed its journey. I feel the show has not got its due. It's a sad, sinking feeling but at the end of the day you have to take it in your stride. Take life as it comes. I am looking forward to something positive now.

Do you think the sequel to Tere Liye is a possibility?
I don't know. I have never thought about it. People have asked me about Kis Desh Mein Hain Mera Dil sequel too. This journey is so incomplete, but if someone offers me the sequel I will do it because there is that incomplete feeling.

Tell us a little about your background and your growing up days.
As a kid I was like furniture and I did not exist. I did not live, just existed. As a kid I have only done things that I've liked. I remember after my Class 8 I took up shot put and discus throw. I used to be very excited, get up at 4 am for the practice sessions. Then I was a NCC member. I used to do things that could make me live otherwise I was a lazy kid. I remember I used to keep awake in my history classes in Class 9 only because the teacher was very strict and I used to be scared that she would catch hold of me. I loved math, physics and chemistry. These were my subjects.

How would you describe yourself?
I like learning. I try to perfect myself but I can't say am a perfectionist. I am a dreamer but I am not a planner.

Today when TV has become so monotonous, don't you get frustrated with similar characters and scenes?
Luckily, I haven't played the same kind of characters but yes there have been times in the show that I must have done a same scene five times. It is frustrating definitely because then you start questioning yourself and the work. If something doesn't excite you, then there is no point doing it. I lose my focus then.

Are you a method actor or you believe in spontaneity?
I am spontaneous. I like preparing for the character, not for the scene. I like to make a few changes in the scene. I like to give a scene an ending, a high point which is usually not there.

You come from a conservative background; do you feel awkward while doing intimate scenes?
It's funny actually! When I am doing the scene, there is nothing on my mind, I am completely into the scene, I don't even think ki mummyjee, papajee kya bolenge or how I will face my sister. When I enter my house and I know the scene will be aired, it gets awkward then. The worst is when you have to sit and watch the scenes with them. There is this silence and everyone keeps looking here and there, like they aren't watching it (laughs).

There is this rumour about your secret girlfriend, so tell us about her?
I can only say I genuinely like someone and want to end up with her. I am taking my time because I want to be ready for the responsibility and don't want to enter into a relationship till I am completely ready. I want it to last because I am very serious about it and so am taking my time.

You are Ekta Kapoor's blue-eyed boy; don't you think it's a handicap for you sometimes being stuck with the same production house?
I am not stuck or under any contract to stick with Balaji. When I take up a show it's only then that I am under a contract and I like it that way because I like to do one show at a time. I get too involved and take a lot of time. I like doing one project at a time.

Any insecurity as an actor?
(Laughs) In fact, acting is the most insecure profession. Your life is filled with insecurities, no room for planning. You never know what's coming your way, you never know if your future is bright or in the dark! You can just put in your hard work and move in blindly towards it. The worst part is you have an aim which is like the horizon and when you reach there, you find the horizon still there, it never moves. So at times you feel you haven't moved, you are where you are.

A lot of actors are getting into businesses as a part-time occupation. Any such plans for you?
Like I said earlier, I do things which I like and excite me and till date I haven't figured out anything else apart from acting that makes me feel this way. As of now, nothing. I can't even put all the money back into funds and fixed deposits because I don't understand any of it.

You seem to stay away from the media and your fans quite a lot. Is it a conscious decision?
I was never like this with the media earlier but it's my life and the experiences that have made me like this. I need to believe and trust people. I always talk to them once at least. Generally, they don't write what I say and if they do then I talk to them again. If they don't write what I say then I don't want to talk to them because I don't trust them. This is the only thing with the media. The problem is that people want to know everything about me except my work and I like to be known for my work.

But it is the part and parcel of an actor's life?
I am completely fine with that. I cannot go telling about what's wrong and right. Agar hai tohpeople will know, sometimes I say these things because I feel I do owe them something. It's not I haven't been open about it. I have celebrated my birthday on national television with my family and sister. But I am very protective about my family.

TV today has a lot of new actors, is it a competition for seasoned actors like you?
It's always a competition, whether or not you've been there for a long time or not. Competition is tough for everyone because you are as good as your last show. You are back to square one and you are standing where newcomers are but the only difference is that maybe people know you and have seen your work, but then again they come cheaper. Competition is a tough for everyone.

We haven't seen you in a reality show…
I have to like to be a part of it, it's not I am not keen on it. I would like to do something adventurous but the problem is I am a vegetarian. I am fine with anything crawling on me but this is the only thing that holds me back from any kind of reality. I like watching Roadies, they have some good adventure.

What do awards mean to you?
Awards mean a lot to me. I feel bad when I don't win them. However when I lose, I console myself and say this is not the end and I have to work harder. I was so deprived of my Best Actor award that finally when I won it at Telly awards there was this weird feeling when I was holding it. I wasn't too happy but I thought why it took so much time to come to me. There were mixed emotions, I was happy, nervous. I think I have started believing in the fact that when I don't prepare my speeches, I end up winning. I feel that I got everything really late in life and maybe I deserved it during Kis Desh but I didn't get it then. Then Tere Liye happened and that's when I bagged the award and I felt I got my due and won it for this show.

What is your dream in life?
If only I could describe what it is. There is this entity that I am following. I don't know whether I will ever reach there, whether it is the sky or beyond, the moon or beyond. I think it's just to take a step ahead.

What next after Tere Liye?
I will take a proper two-month break and enjoy. I plan to join dance classes and it's been my dream to buy a bike for myself. I am just a bit confused about that one.

Wednesday, March 16, 2011 | 5:24:33 PM IST (+05:30 GMT) Robindo shatters Taposh's happiness..

The happiness of Taposh and Mauli is short lived in Star Plus' Tere Liye, as Robbie comes up with a master plan...

There is going to be some huge drama in Star Plus' Tere Liye as the show reaches its climax. With every relationship going sour, tension is creeping in the life of Anurag (Harshad Chopra) and Taani (Anupriya Kapoor).

If that's not enough, Robbie (Rajat Tokas) is now hell bent in destroying the life of Taposh (Shakkti Arora). With Taposh realizing his mistakes and accepting to stand up to the responsibilities of being a good husband, happiness is back again in the life of Mauli (Neha Saxena). However, this is going to be short lived as Robbie plans to burn Taposh's gas agency.

As per our source, "Robindo is very insecure to see Mauli and Taposh happy. He wants to somehow ruin their happiness. He schemes to blow up the Agency where the gas cylinders have been piled up. The huge blast shatters Taposh and he incurs huge losses and is left with the pressure of repaying the loan that he had taken to start the agency".

Let's see what is in store for Mauli and Taposh in the near future..

'Tere Liye' has thus far made news not for its on-screen content, but for the off-screen emotions running high among fans of Harshad Chopra, Anupriya Kapoor, and Additi Gupta. Chopra's legion of fans have ridiculed Anupriya Kapoor, and demanded return of Additi opposite him.

We've been flooded with love/hate comments for any story on 'Tere Liye', or its actors. Some unruly Additi Gupta fans have been pretty nasty in their criticism of Anupriya Kapoor, who made her TV debut with the Balaji Telefilms show. Some of them even cursed the show saying that the TRP ratings will go down.

Looks like the ill wishes of the anti-Anupriya camp has started taking its toll on the show's TRPs.

The average TVR of 'Tere Liye' dropped from 3.9 to 3.7 in the TAM week 27 (June 27 'July 3). The show, which was at par with rival 'Uttaran' a fortnight ago, has now fallen behind marginally to the Colors show. This week 'Tere Liye' clocked a peak TVR of 4.1 on Wednesday, June 30. 'Uttaran' clocked the same number that day, but the following episode earned them a peak TVR of 4.8 thereby pushing it to number 15 in the table. 'Tere Liye' is rated number 27.

The Balaji show opened the week with a TVR of 3.7 as opposed to 4.0 of 'Uttaran'. The latter notched up to 4.7 in the following day whereas 'Tere Liye' clocked just 3.8. It was all square on Wednesday, but 'Uttaran' (4.8) took a lead of 1 TRP on Thursday. This was cut down to .0.2 as both shows observed dip in TRPs on Friday.

However, the anti-Anupriya clan cannot be solely held responsible for the drop in TRP of 'Tere Liye'. The maximum footage is currently garnered by the child actors who are playing the young Taani and Anurag. Perhaps, it's time to show Harshad in the asylum. That will certainly boost the TRPs again, and definitely make the fans go crazy.

Chaand Chhupa Macao Mein

Viren (Kinshuk Mahajan) and Nivedita's (Neha Sargam) relationship in Chaand Chhupa Badal Mein on STAR Plus has been going through a rough patch for some time now. However, the couple ignored their differences and performed on the romantic track "Tere Bina" from the movie Crook at the STAR Parivaar Awardsheld in Macao.

More on STAR Parivaar Awards 2011: Discuss here | Watch full episodes | Official Website

An exuberant Nivedita reveals, "Our performance was choreographed by ace choreographer Geeta Kapur. She is an absolute sweetheart and never complained, even though it took us a while to get the steps right. We used to rehearse from 5 in the morning and are glad our hard work paid off. The final result was fantastic." Viren, too, echoes her sentiments.

Besides performing, Viren also hosted a segment of the show along with Pooja "Pratigya" Gor. Talking about it, he says, "It was a new experience and I was a little nervous but the act went off well. The segment was unlike any normal segment where the hosts simply walk in and start talking. It was a unique entry for me and my co-host Pratigya and it required a lot of rehearsals for us to get it right. I can't wait for the audience to watch it. I hope they enjoy it as much as we did."

He shared a great rapport with co-host Pooja as he exclaims, "I've met Pooja before Star Parivaar Awards but our interactions used to be very formal. After spending time in rehearsals, we got very comfortable and relaxed in each other's company. Our segment was a smooth sailing."

Other than work, Viren and Nivedita made sure that they made the most of their free time. Viren says, "The Venetian was so huge that we didn't need to go out. Everything was available in the hotel itself! I shopped a bit and we also had a party there. When we had some time off, Harshad Chopra and I went clubbing and had a blast. Harshad, Anupriya and Pooja have now become my close friends."

Nivedita adds, "I had a fun time hanging out with the cast of Chaand Chhupa Badal Mein because normally we don't get enough time to chat, relax or have fun during the shoot. This was a good break from our regular schedule."

Catch Viren and Nivedita at the STAR Parivaar Awards 2011 on Sun, April 3, at 8 pm on STAR Plus.

Taani goes on a shopping spree in Macao

Taani, aka Anupriya Kapoor, who was in Macao for the STAR Parivaar Awards relates her first time experience at the awards and reveals all the fun things she did while in Macao.

"It was a lovely experience and overall we all had fun. The trip was short and we had packed in rehearsals, shooting, award ceremony, sightseeing and shopping so it was a bit hectic. All of us hardly slept as we were all making ample use of the time in Macao," grins Taani.

She goes on, "I had a great time eating, chatting spending time with the team of Tere Liye. On the sets, we do get together in breaks but there is always something or the other occupying our minds. Here, we were all set for fun and a gala time and we enjoyed being with our team."

Taani was awed by the size of The Venetian. "It was so huge, massive. I was mighty impressed with the size of the hotel, the property; everything was so beautiful and breathtaking. I especially enjoyed the Gondola ride with Anurag which was a totally different experience."

Other than rehearsals and shooting, most of her time was occupied by well –shopping, shopping and yes more shopping. "My ma Loboni and I ganged up and shopped for every possible thing in Macao. We got clothes, jewellery, shoes, watches, perfumes and what not. We spent a lot. We shopped some more at the duty free stores at the airport while returning too. We were tagged shopaholics by the entire cast. But it was fun," she smiles thrilled with her new goodies.

She adds, "We almost missed our ride to the airport as we cut our return very short. We had one hour to report to the ferry station so we ran for 10 minutes to the shops, shopped for 45 minutes and returned quickly. Poor Anurag, Robindo and others were waiting for us in the lobby and we came strolling, eating Belgian ice cream like we had no care in the world. We still tease them that they missed out on some cool stuff that we bought."

Talking about her performances she says, "I did two dance performances at the STAR Parivaar awards. One was, the group dance on the Tu Hi Meri Star anthem, where I wore a lovely red and black sari. And later, I danced in a segment, themed old vs young, where I performed to the old song Bichoya while Supriyaji, Lataji and others danced to various other songs. I had worn a beautiful magenta lehenga designed by Gerry who is awesome."

She loved Anurag's performance obviously. "The guys - Anurag, Anuj and Angad performed to a macho men kind of theme where they had fire stunts, jumping in the air and some other stunts too. It was really something."

Taani mingled with numerous STAR Parivaar sadsyas. "It is always a pleasure to meet the other members of STAR Parivaar. This is probably the only chance you have to get to know the other actors of the channel."

But the best thing that happened in Macao and the most memorable part of STAR Parivaar for Taani was, "to cheer Laboni ma and Ritesh when they danced on stage. The entire Tere Liye team was in one row and we were cheering loudly, whistling, clapping for them. They were very good on stage. I will cherish this STAR Parivaar awards forever," she ends.

Catch Taani's maiden performance at the STAR Parivaar Awards on Sunday, April 3, 8 PM on STAR Plus.

t's bye bye Tere Liye; oh that sinking feeling

Shakti Arora

Today is the last day of shoot of Tere Liye and I am sitting in my dressing room remembering the time I have spent on the set. It is making me extremely emotional. I won't be working here anymore. I don't even know if this set will be there or not.

Tere Liye has given me a lot. It is the first time I have spent so much time on screen. Not just professionally, but personally too, unlike other units, this one has been different. I have made some very good friends here especially after the leap, I have come closer to a lot of people. I am close to Laboni Ma, Mauli, Ruchi who played the first Jonaki. We hang out together and do a lot of masti. I am even close to Rajat (Tokas), Harshad (Chopda) and Anupriya (Kapoor). We are a gang and have a blast when we are together, even the director. I am close to everyone on the set.

I am feeling bad the show is ending and I know I will get a new show but it won't be the same anymore. I won't be working with the same cast and my heart feels hollow. When I think about all the times I have spent here, the meals shared with the cast and how all of us have become one family, it upsets me. Though I am going to be in touch with all of them, we won't be sharing this set anymore.

The past two three days have been really weird. Everyone is getting emotional on the sets. It is like a reality check now that the show has come to an end. These days no one needs glycerin to shoot emotional crying sequences.

I think my bonding with the audiences and fans has also grown during the show. I get cards and letters from Kolkata from social workers who tell me they identify with my character. They have sent me books and tell me how there are people like Taposh. All age groups seem to have loved Taposh and I have got a lot of appreciation. Initially, I could never identify with Taposh but once the character underwent a change post leap, I have become a lot like him. I have imbibed his goodness and generosity. So now I don't shy away from helping someone just like the way Taposh does. I have taken away some of his traits, his way of talking and his nature.

Lastly, I want to tell my fans to pray for me that I get a good role soon and I am back on screen. I will put in all the hard work and effort required to make you all happy.
