"Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your hearth or burn down your house, you can never tell."
Research Question: What exactly is love?
Introduction: Is it that feeling you get when you see your significant other dressed up? Is that sense of possessiveness you feel at the sight of your significant other near another persom? At the end of it all, I think it's safe to say that love is subjective. There is no set meaning to it. With that being said though, often times, we identify love and associate it with qualities; love is kind, love is supportive...love is jealousy, love is passion. There seems to be a spectrum in the expression of this four lettered word. I see the ends of this spectrum in, not only TEI, but all Indian shows.
Most shows tend to portray love as something hard, rough around the edges but soft in the center. Male leads grab, bruise, yell, mistreat but that is how they are developing "love", how they're showing it. Tashan-E-Ishq, in my opinion, is an amalgam of both. While it does show this "rough" side (Yuvraj), it had brought to the forefront the archaic typical Knight-In-Shining-Armor male lead- Kunj. Kunj isn't rough, he isn't loud, he doesn't set restrictions yet he weaves a magic on screen that rather than liking the "bad-boy" Yuvraj, we lean towards him. Personally, when I began this show, I was torn. I liked Yuvraaj, the way he loved with his jealousy and such but when I began to see Kunj interacting with Twinkle, my mind began to change. But, that change in mind caused me to look further into this idea of love.
Method: I researched and found an article that explained true love in terms in four qualities as taught by Thich Nhat Hanh of the Buddhist religion and I quoted his descriptions below.
Research:
Love (Maitri)
"This is the intention and capacity to offer joy and happiness. To develop that capacity, we have to practice looking and listening deeply so that we know what to do and what not to do to make others happy. We must look deeply in order to see and understand the needs, aspirations, and suffering of the one you love."
Compassion (Karuna)
"This is the intention and capacity to relieve and transform suffering and lighten sorrows. "Compassion" is composed of com ("together with") and passion ("to suffer"). But we do not need to suffer to remove suffering from another person. Lotus Sutra describes Avalokiteshvara as the bodhisattva who practices "looking with the eyes of compassion and listening deeply to the cries of the world." Compassion contains deep concern. You know the other person is suffering, so you sit close to them. You look and listen deeply to them to be able to touch their pain. You are in deep communication, deep communion with them , and that alone brings some relief. One compassionate word, action, or thought can reduce another person's suffering and bring him joy. One word can give comfort and confidence, destroy doubt, help someone avoid a mistake, reconcile a conflict, or open the door to liberation. One action can save a person's life or help him take advantage of a rare opportunity. One thought can do the same, because thoughts always lead to words and actions. With compassion in our heart, every thought, word, and deed can bring about a miracle."
Joy (Mudita)
"True love always brings joy to ourselves and to the one we love. Ditthadhamma sukhavihari means "dwelling happily in the present moment." We don't rush to the future; we know that everything is here in the present moment."
Equanimity (Upeksha)
"The fourth element of true love is upeksha, which means equanimity, nonattachment, nondiscrimination, even- mindedness, or letting go. Upa means "over," and iksha means "to look." You climb the mountain to be able to look over the whole situation, not bound by one side or the other. You say you love them, but if you do not understand their aspirations, their needs, their difficulties, they are in a prison called love. True love allows you to preserve your freedom and the freedom of your beloved. "
Conclusion:
Twinkle: Maitri & Mudita
Kunj: Karuna & Upeksha

I think I might add more stuff later...not sure. I want to know if any of these makes sense before I do or if it's just OD...
