THE COCKROACH
Kunj stood styling his damp hair in the mirror, whistling away as the water droplets from his hair flicked onto the mirror. Showers were fun, he decided. They were what woke him up in the mornings and made him chipper. He was looking nothing less than a Greek god. His perfectly chiseled body was drenched in water.
His whistling was interrupted by an ear-piercing shriek coming from outside the bathroom door.
Forgetting that he was clad in nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist, Kunj dropped his comb and hurried out of the bathroom, wondering what had happened. He was worried about something major happening to Twinkle.
"Twinkle? Kya hua? Tu chilla kyu rahi hai?" he asked, surprised to find Twinkle standing on the chair at her dresser.
Sensing that he won't be getting a reply soon he continued," Aur tu waha kyu khadi hai? Dekh gir jayegi. Neeche utar ja."
Her face was pale, her hair strewn across her face. It seemed like she had just encountered a ghost. She looked up at Kunj, her eyes wide in fear.
"C-c-c-cockroach!"
Those words were enough to make Kunj scream out. Kunj's eyes widened. Ignoring the fact that the chair at the dresser was wide enough to hold just one person, he clambered up on it, grabbing Twinkle for balance. Both of them were merely holding on to their balance.
"Kunj, tum kya kar rahe ho? Utro yaha se. Gir jayenge hum." Twinkle shrieked, grabbing him in turn, both of them wobbling on the chair. They stood there hugging each other out of fear.
"I hate cockroaches. Mujhe unse bauhat dar lagta hai." came his prompt reply. "Ja twinkle bhaga usko. I am not getting down until that thing is out of here."
"Agar mujhe bhagana hota toh mai yaha tumhare saath time pass thodi na kar rahi hoti Kunj? Aur waise bhi hum dono kursi par nahi khade ho sakte. Issilye utro yaha se." she said trying to gain balance. "Kunj I am scared of cockroaches too. You go and deal with it. "
"We're standing fine, aren't we?"
Just as he said that, both of them lost their balance and tumbled onto the floor. Luckily for Twinkle, she landed on Kunj, the wind knocked out of both of them.
She stared down at him, then smacked his bare chest.
"What was that for?" he demanded, groaning. "First my back hurts because of the fall. Kitni bhaari ho gayi hai tu. Kam khaya kar thoda and to add to that now you're making my chest hurt as well?" he asked innocently.
"Duffer!" Twinkle chided him. "You were supposed to get rid of that cockroach, not be a girl about it. I cried for help so that you could get rid of that thing for good."
Kunj stuck his tongue out at her. "It's not my fault you're scared of cockroaches too. Ab mujhe kya pata tha ki jhaasi ki rani ko dar bhi lagta hai. "
After a small pause Kunj continued, " waise bhi mai toh araam se ready ho raha tha. Pata nahi kyu teri help karne chala aya. Samjah jaana chahiye tha ki jaha twinkle waha siyappa hona toh pakka hai. I should have seen this coming."
She smiled at him. "No, but it is your fault you acted like a complete girl when you didn't even see the cockroach. Aur waise bhi mujhe nahi pata tha ki Kunj Sarna ek cockroach se darta hai."
Kunj made a face. "Will you please get off me? You're breaking my bones."
Twinkle grinned. "No. I like it here. I'm planning on staying here only."
The smile that emerged on Kunj's face scared Twinkle. She cursed herself for having said that. Her smile faded.
"So, you like it here, do you?" Kunj drawled. He had a naughty spark in his eyes.
As Twinkle started to climb off Kunj, he rolled over so he lay on top of her. Her eyes widened. His hands caged her in. she had nowhere to go.
"K-Kunj, ye tum kya kar rahe ho? Agar kissi ne dekha toh?" she stammered, trying to look at anywhere but his well-sculpted bare chest or his lean arms that were stretched out on either side of her, supporting his weight. She settled for his eyes, but that made her heart race even faster. She was lost in his eyes.
He lowered himself slightly, positioning his lips next to her ear. "We're in our room, Twinkle. Kaun dekhega? Aur waise bhi biwi ho tum meri."
"Chaachu, Chachi aapke kamre mei cockroach aaya tha kya?"
Kunj yelped and quickly moved off Twinkle, turning to the door to see who had interrupted them. Twinkle sat up as well, turning a bright shade of red that matched her nephew's tee.
"Ishaan! Haa, woh...uh...aaya tha, hai na, haina Twinkle?" Kunj stammered.
"Haan" Twinkle answered quickly, smiling nervously.
At the door, Ishaan nodded solemnly. He ran out screaming about the scene he had just witnessed.
Both Kunj and Twinkle exchanged a horrified look. They quickly stood up. Tiding herself up twinkle spoke,
"We should..." Kunj started.
"Yeah, we should!"
They headed for the door, but Twinkle stopped and turned around. "You should, um...put on some clothes."
Kunj blushed. "Right."
Nikki appeared at their door, her eyes flashing. "What did I hear Ishaan saying?"
Twinkle swallowed nervously. "Kuch nahi, Bhabhi. There was a cockroach in our room and we were on the chair and we lost our balance and fell aur phir Ishaan aaya aur usne hume dekh liya aur pata nahi ussne kya samjha... I swear Bhabhi bilkul aisa hi hua tha."
Kunj was too embarrassed to even say anything. He stood mute like a statue.
Nikki seemed amused by it. She smiled at them knowingly. "Chalo, theek hai. Socho ki maaf kar diya. Lekin agli baar, zara darwaaza band kar lo romance se pehle. Bebe ya kisi aur ne dekh liya toh pata nahi kya hoga."
Her face still red, Twinkle closed the door as Nikki left, shaking with silent laughter and shaking her head.
She turned to find Kunj staring at her, still embarrassed at having been caught flirting with his wife by their nephew.
He smiled sheepishly. "At least the cockroach is gone."
