I would like to disagree with both of you. Because worshipping of ganapati that too clay idol started much before independence. My grandmothers used to tell us how they celebrated ganesh chaturthi during their childhood by bringing clay ganapati idols and most of the people in their time were making the idols by themselves at home. My grandma passed away recently and by the way she was 101 years old. So this celebration started much much before independence. And Tilakji made it famous by introducing pandal system of worshipping so as to build leadership quality and mainly unity among youngsters. This spread all over the country as it had unique and great intention.
Regarding the show, I think asit modi should visit south Indian household especially karnataka state to which I belong during navaratri or also called Dasara. We too celebrate for 10 days. It is believed that Lord Venkatesha also known as Srinivasa and balaji (it is an incarnation of lord Vishnu) married Lakshmi or her incarnation Padmavati during this time and their wedding is celebrated for 10 days I.e Dasara. This story is known as Srinivasa Kalyana.
During this time people create miniatures of monuments of our country, temples, miniatures of village life, city, parks and forests and what not. This is not connected to the legend Srinivasa kalyana but it's just a unique way of celebrating Dasara. I myself have made miniature of tirupati hills (Lord balaji), badrinath, a forest and a park at my house.
So asit modi if you say tmkoc is a representative of mini India, then please concentrate on the other parts of our country. Maybe that can help you come up with even more interesting episodes.
