Ancient India had a varna system not a caste system which everyone knows about-brahmin, kshatriya, vaishya and shudra.
People usually followed the varna they were born in because it was easier to pick up the skills and way of living from your parents. Now the question is- were people stuck in the varna of their birth?

If we look at Maharishi Valmiki, he was born a shudra since he was a dacoit. But he later became a brahmin through his deeds and perseverance and in fact, became a Maharishi.

I have read that the Maharishis would see everyone's aura and judge their worth by that. Probably they could also tell past, present, future of a person by that so base their decisions to take someone under their tutelage or not, accordingly.

I looked at a suggestion above to read Dipankar Gupta's views on the subject and found a lecture of his. After going through it, I would dissuade you from wasting your time. He's trying to confuse the base questions by bringing in the Aryan Invasion Theory which has been thoroughly discredited.

The caste system was a policy of the British invaders for Divide and Rule. If you notice, this policy is still followed vigorously by NGOs like Ford Foundation in India who sponsor BR Ambedkar-EVR Periyar groups in IITs. Now the issue is getting really confusing and I don't know if you can make much sense of what I write here therefore I will stop. I'm not sure anyone even bothers with what I write so no point wasting my time. Could make a few suggestions though if anyone was genuinely interested.

Forgetting this caste discussion,
Let's talk on show

I am Gujarati from Vadodara

Actually Gada is Gujarati Jain Surname & mostly came from Kutch region of state (North west side district & largest one )

In Kutch , there are many Hindus Jains & Highest Muslim population of state also...They all speak Kutchi language (Sub part of Gujarati language)

In show they always used to say "JAY JINENDRA" That's mean Jain tradition ...But now they have stopped this on the regular basis ... Now they say "Ambe Mat Ki Jay" They are worshipping Ambe Mata ...The form of universal energy of Hinduism.

Actually Asit Modi himself Hindu & Mixing his own individual Believes into show's characters with concept...And i am always against this.

On 1000 episodes , they went to Ambaji in the show, Northen Shaktipith (1 of total 52 )in Gujarat.

Actually Hindu & Jains are always together even after both are different religions ...Because Jainism is called Nastik religion and non believers to Vedas

In History , you will never find fighting between these 2 religions.

In Gujarat, Highest jain Population here in Total percentage wise & richest people...Jainism is religion where around 95 % people are literate in entire world religion list.

Even jain always celebrate Navratri, Diwali & Holi...They believe in Hindu Gods also, and We Hindu also Worship to 24 Jain Tirthankars.

But Now they have got Minority status & this is just because of India's nonsense politics.

No one can separate these 2 religions and Now Jain will also get benefits of minors but they are richest community all time so actually they are not needed here.

I have many jain friends & relatives.

In show ...in starting Bapuji used to say "Mai Derasar Jata Hoon" & now "Mai mandir Jata Hoon"

Even in 2009 they celebrated Paryushan & mahavir Jayanti in TMKOC

But now Everything is stopped.

Creativity is decreased in show as asit Modi is creative director of show 😆😃

Well, showing a Jain family in not easy given the restrictions of Jainism. Jainism propagates simple living and the Gadas are anything but simple.
