Based on the the column 'Duniya Na Undha Chasma' written by Taarak Mehta, the show is about Gokuldham Co-op Housing Society and its residents of which one is from Gujarat, a Punjabi married to a Parasi woman, a Maharashtrian family and one South Indian with a Bengali wife amongst others. Subtly advocating national integration, the show's simplicity has managed to grow on the audience slowly but steadily.
