A bit of the Moon had slid slyly through the window bars...and was sleeping beside Swara and Sanskaar.
"Sanskaar hatto" Swara jabbed at her Husband.
"Ummm" a very sleep-tousled Sanskaar responded from the depths of his pillow.
"Hatto Na" a stronger shake.
"What Swara?"
"Shift those pillows...I need to sleep nearer to you"
"Are we continuing where we left off?😉" Sanskaar asked dimly...gathering his Wife close.
"No. I had a scary nightmare. A bear was chasing me" Swara yawned, settling into his cuddle.
"Koi baat nahi...Sanskaar the Brave will chase away the bear" Sanskaar chuckled, spooning her snug, to himself.
"Go back to sleep..." Warm in his embrace..Swara drifted off.
**************************************************
The alarm went off...startling Swara. She shot up like a Jumping Jack.
"Ouch!!!"
"Sorry, sorry, sorry Sanskaar...I" jolted out of her cosy position in his arms...Swara had crashed her elbow directly into his chin.
Sanskaar sat up too, making several incoherent moans and faces.
"Subah subah violence? Kya hai?" Sanskaar retorted, tasting blood in his mouth from where her elbow had smashed it against his teeth.
"Arre woh alarm ...usne attack kiya...I mean ussne jagaya..and I..whatever. Dikhao..." Swara peered at his cut, trying to tend to him.
"I know very well ki this bloody alarm😡 is extremely jealous of our relationship...par this is getting to be a punishable offence." Sanskaar joked, wiping his mouth with the tissue she got him..and sucking on some sugar, which helped.
"Waise...why did you set the alarm on Sunday, that too saare paanch bajey?" asked Swara quizzically, once he had calmed down.
"I did not. You must have" Sanskaar settled back into the cushions, rubbing the sleep off his eyes.
"No. You must have done it by mistake. Bhoolakkar" Swara chided him lightly. He looked adorably bleary eyed.❤️
"No, Swara..I.."
And it jangled again. Urgent and impatient. They stared at each other, baffled.
It was not from either of their phones.
The poor alarm😭 was not to blame. Somebody was at the door, jangling the doorbell for whatever he was worth.
"Itne jaldi kaun aa gaya??" Swara grumbled, shuffling out of bed and into her slippers.
Stretching lazily, Sanskaar followed. He was hardly going to allow her to open the door at the crack of dawn to just anybody, without him present.
And there stood the Milkman, with a fly zooming interestedly, around his stupendous moustache. To Sanskaar's sleep addled brain, he looked like a Demon on a house-call, at an extremely outrageous hour.😡
"Aap itne jaldi aa gaye aaaj?" Swara asked sullenly, grabbing the pail she kept ready for him, from on top of the fridge. She was NOT a morning person.
"Ha Didi...aaj Kali-Puja hai na...jaldi sab kaam khatam karke, mera bhi upvaas hain" Doodhwala grinned, measuring the milk out. Once done, he whistled himself merrily away on his bicycle.
"Well, chalo..lets have tea, now that the milk is here." Swara set off to the kitchen and Sanskaar to freshen up.
He doubled back on his way to the bathroom, nuzzling Swara on the neck. "Good Morning".
Swara laughed as it tickled, shooing him away from her cutlery. Sanskaar was like a proverbial bull in the china shop.
The morning breeze, gently ruffled the curtains and Swara's hair...laying the magic touch of wakefulness, over every living thing on earth. It decided that the Sun had had enough sleep, rousing him and swiftly painting the Heavens a clear periwinkle blue, with a few dollops of clouds; lit by a potpourri of slashes from the brand- new sunshine.
Few birds started to chirp out of tune..in a just-out-of-bed-wanna-go-back kind of way. Fresh fragrances, new sounds and bright sights, bathed in the early morning glow. The time of day, when all happy dreams seen at night, seem possible to craft into existence.
Swara and Sanskaar took their chai out into the balcony, to sip contentedly, side-by-side, watching the world gently start getting busy. Like they do every day. 😊
