Chapter 5 - Clouds with a Silver Lining
"I don't want lunch ma" repeated Lucky the nth time in an irritated voice, as his mother Annapurna knocked the door.
"It's not lunch, you have a visitor here" replied Annapurna in a bored voice. She had noticed this change off her son for some time now. It was close to a month, he wasn't his goofy adorable self, he wasn't as chirpy or energetic, on the contrary he was behaving reclusive and brooding. Annapurna assumed that maybe Lakhsya was having cold feet, so she let him be. He needed to come out of the cold feet himself, after all he had selected Ragini himself! But she also understood that her Lakshya was immature, and wedding was indeed a big milestone for her ladla.
"Tell Ragini I will meet her tomorrow Ma." His voice came from the room.
"But its not Ragini beta! Its Swara, she has come to see you." answered back his mother.
Lucky looked up towards the door in a flash, Swags? Why was she here on a Sunday? He casually glanced at the calendar, were they due to start some exams so she came to give him her notes? No, there were no assignments or exams due anytime soon. Then? Lucky was surprised, he had never felt more hesitant at Swags's arrival. But today he realized Swags hadn't visited her home in months! In fact never since the time of their fallout for Sanskar and Ragini - why was she here?
He cautiously went ahead and opened the door to see her mother frowning at him, and beside her stood Swags with a bright silly smile up her lip - her energy and positivity was infectious, unwantingly Lucky smiled and directed her inside his room.
She came in and sat on his bean bag, not saying a word, just looking at him with intense eyes, as Lucky tried hard to avert her gaze and slowly trudged to the bed and sat there facing her.
"What?" he asked after a few minutes more of silent staring.
"You say what" she replied still eyeing him.
"What what?" he asked again, knowing very well what she meant.
"Are you going to tell me? Or should I ambush" she spoke clearly.
"I don't know what you are talking about" muttered Lucky uncomfortably.
"Fine. Let me begin then. What's wrong with you Lucky? Why are you avoiding me? I wanted you to be the first one to know about my relationship with Sanskar! But you? You disappeared from the face of this earth? Why are you avoiding me? Don't pretend you don't know about us? Ragini knows everything and I am sure she told you too! What is it Lucky? Why weren't you there when I wanted to share my happiness with you?" she almost choked by the end of it. Lucky looked up at her face guiltily. Truth be told, even he didn't know why he was behaving thus, he could not pin-point why he detested their relation but he did, how could he explain this to her now?
"Swags chill, I was just busy!" he murmured not meeting her eyes. Swags's eyes flashed in choler.
"Busy doing exactly what Mr. Lakhsya Maheshwari? Don't tell me studies I know that's not it. Neither are you helping Durga uncle with business, Anu aunty already complained - by the forlorn look on Ragini's face you aren't giving her time either. So what exactly is keeping you occupied huh?" Lucky looked up at the aggressive form of his friend and stared, for a fleeting second he almost laughed, for a fleeting second that dull ache in his heart didn't exist - how?
"Swags, I don't know okay. Just let it be" he muttered looking down now. He looked so low that Swara couldn't hold on to her anger anymore. She slowly moved closer to him and sat next to him, gently touching his shoulder. Lucky slowly turned his head and looked at her, his eyes were tired and he looked worn out. Swara could bear to see her Lucky this way. She gently cupped his face with her palms and looked directly in his eyes.
"Listen to me very carefully Lucky. Okay?" she spoke gently. He barely nodded in consent, but she got the message.
"I know you are missing me" Lucky was just about to open his mouth in protest, but Swara didn't allow that. She sushed him and continued. "It's okay. Its not a crime to miss a close friend when you are no more the sole priority in their life. It is natural Lucky and you needn't feel guilty. Trust me Lucky, my and Sanskar's relation would never ever come in between our friendship. Swara will never overshadow your Swags okay? That's why I wanted to meet you all this while! But you had done a bunk! Idiot!" she smiled softly.
Lucky looked at her intently, how did Swags always manage to cull out his deepest secrets from the innermost chambers of his heart? Yes, he was jealous, even he hadn't realized it, yes he was worried that swags wont give him attention and that would leave him dejected, and he didn't want that to happen, so before all he himself was avoiding her - no one had understood this. Neither Ma, nor Ragini, hell not even he himself! Would he mind Sanskar and Swara together had she given him enough time? Guess not..Lucky almost smiled, and asked her in a childlike voice, "Promise?"
"What promise?" she asked surprised at the change in his mood.
"Promise that Swara-Sanskar time won't ever overpower Swags-Lucky time?" he asked and pouted like a child.
"I promise Lucky!"she said and smiled, and then he hugged her tight. He was feeling so so much better already. As Swara hugged him, she mentally thanked Sanskar for pointing out Lucky's state to her. That's why he was Sanskar, he knew her in and out, he knew if Lucky wasn't happy, Swara would be completely happy, and for her, he had encouraged Swara to come and talk to him. Confrotn him and sort this. Sanskar was truly special, thought Swara.
"Swags I am sorry" Lucky whispered, while still in the hug. Swara was surprised. She was about to speak, when Lucky sushed her. "Let me open my heart out and talk today. I am sorry for not being there to share your joy when you fell in love with Sanskar, I am sorry for not being there to tease you when you had started to like him, I am sorry for not being there on your birthday when you were all alone, and mostly, I am sorry for abandoning you when Ragini came into my life. I am sorry, I really am. I now know how you must have felt back then. And thanks for not doing the same to me"
Swara smiled sadly as those past memories flashed before her eyes, but she had forgiven him long since for those. "It's all good Lucky. Now stop acting weird and sensitive. It doesn't suit you!" and then they both laughed like the old times again. It felt good.

Sanskar was sitting with Ragini in the canteen and flipping through a book. Ragini just sat there rolling the end of her dupatta looking at nothingness. Swara and Lucky had gone for a movie, it was a super hero movie that Ragini didn't enjoy, and Swara had told Sanskar, it was Lucky-Swags time, and he had smiled and backed out.
"How long is the stupid movie anyway?" she aksed Sanskar impatiently.
"Relax Ragini, its only been an hour, they will be back soon" replied Sanskar.
"I hate this." she complained.
"Come one. Lucky loves you and Swara loves me! Why are you insecure now?" asked Sanskar exasperated.
"You won't understand" she muttered darkly. Sanskar chuckled.
"Why don't you get done with your engagement Ragini? You will be so much at peace then!" he teased.
"Just give me time until the final Sanskar, I so will." she replied huffing. "Get it done soon, I don't have all the time in the world okay!" he laughed, and she joined in.

"So Ms. Bose, how did the movie go?" asked Sanskar while holding Swara's hand while walking out of the college gate.
"It was awesome Sanskar..." and Swara excitedly rambled on about the story the plot and other details, but Sanskar wasn't listening, he was distracted. His eyes kept moving with her lips that spoke continuously of what he had no clue. They were soft and lush pink. Just by staring at them, he felt a deep-seated desire flush in him, making him feel hot. Swara on the other hand never noticed Sanskar's reation and she chirpily spoke about her favourite hero.
"Swara come, I've got to show you something" he said suddenly cutting her words midway and pulled her back inside the college building. He guided her to an empty classroom, it was dark, there was very little light coming from outside as it was cloudy and would rain anytime now. Swara looked at Sanskar confused, what did he have to show her here?
"What do you need to show me here?" she asked surprised.
"My love for you" he replied promptly.
She finally looked deeply into her eyes and realized his yearning, she smiled shyly and tried turning away, but Sanskar wound his arm around her waist and gently pulled her towards him, such that her small frame was pasted to him. She instinctively raised her hand to balance herself and gripped his shoulder. The she looked him into his eyes, gone was the mirth in them, what replaced that was pure desire. She blushed and looked down, but his finger tipped her chin and made look up again. She quickly shut her eyes on impulse and felt his hot breath inching closer to her every moment, and then finally she felt a soft pressure of a soft pair of lips on hers. He softly nibbled on her lower lip for a bit, and then stopped and waited with baited breathe, giving her a chance to reciprocate or back out, but the moment he stopped Swara let out an involuntary gasp of annoyance, he chuckled seeing her consent and continued to kiss her lips softly with his. Slowly she reciprocated, her hands found his neck and she flushed her body deeper into him. He took the hint and prodded her lip with his tongue and soon he had entered the warm cavern of her mouth. The kiss was no more gentle, it took every ounce of them to stand stably and continue as it grew from a gentle gesture to a frenzy in no time where both their hands were involuntarily exploring each other's body, mapping, learning, experiencing and memorising each and every smooth curve and tough muscles of their bodies, then when they finally broke free, they were both out of breath, grasping for air.
It was dark now, they could hardly see each other's face. It was good that way as Swara was very shy. She just hugged Sanskar tight and didn't let him go. Sanskar hugged her back and satyed still in peace.
"Swara we need to go out now, the peon will be here anytime to close the classes, we don't want to be caught" he whispered in her ear. Swara jumped back two steps in shock and automatically started walking towards the door, with Sanskar at her heels.
As they walked out into the corridor and started walking towards the exit door, Sanskar stopped her, "Swara, you may want to fix your clothes before you step out of the building, there will be other out there" he said with a naughty smile playing up his face. Swara was still in a daze as she looked down at herself, her top was at an odd angle and her hair was ruffled, she quickly brushed her top straight and hand combed her hair neat. When she was satisfied, she was about to turn and leave, but Sanskar held her back. He came close to her, and her breathing hitched again, he smiled gently in understanding and raised his hand towards her face, and with his index finger, rubbed the border of her lips. She looked at him puzzled.
"Your smudged lipsticj was going to give us away" he chuckled and she laughed in realization, and turned, to see Lucky standing there before them. His expression was unreadable. Swara looked embarrassed seeing him there and compulsively adjusted her top, and Sanskar groaned internally, "Oh Boy!"
