First of all hi! My name's Kriti and this is literally my first day even getting into the universe of Swabhimaan, for now all I've done is watch a few offscreen segments and read around a bit, so fair warning, I could be completely off :) I hope to watch & catch up with the show during my spring break though!

Anyways, so from what I read around, Karan has this uneasiness with being touched or physical contact in general. Additionally today in a monologue he mentioned something about not feeling worthy of Naina.

Now maybe this is because I have a psych exam tomorrow and all the studying has gone to my head 😆 (which is very much possible) but if I'm not mistaken these are also signs of a victim of abuse, especially physical or sexual.

Apart from physical contact in general making them extremely uncomfortable, to the point where even the thought of it is discomforting, they also often start feeling worthlessness & self-hate. Now of course we're all educated members of society and we know that the victim has NO FAULT in any sort of mistreatment they've been made to suffer, but when actually going through such an experience, feeling undeserving & worthless is a common behavior (as a result of the kind of trauma this type of abuse causes).

So is that maybe what Karan went through? Again, I don't have much context apart from the bit of snooping around that I did, so I could be off, but if this is the case then kudos the writers & PH for bringing an issue like this to the forefront via a central protagonist. Not what I expected from Rajshri but pleasantly surprised!

Now my books beckon me, catch you later! Leave your thoughts :)

Hi! Welcome to the Forum! :)

While they haven't shown it yet, the bio they posted on the Colors TV site said that Karan suffers from a skin disease since childhood. His carrying an umbrella, being so covered up all the time, his hiding his cream like it was some precious metal are probably all indications towards this.
About his aversion to be touched, I have a theory that maybe people avoided touching him or being near him him when he was young because of his disease, so he internalized it and developed a sort of defence mechanism towards it by just avoiding to touch people on his own.

His insecurities are probably a result of the fact that he has always been considered a good for nothing failure by his father and has always been compared with his older brother. His family doesn't really understand him and has added to his low self esteem.

I am basing all my speculation on that bio they posted. But as you pointed out, whatever they have shown till now also gives credence to the idea that Karan could have suffered abuse. So it may go this way also. Either way, makes for an interesting story! :)

I think he is suffering from Skin problems a genetic inherited skin problem called Photodermatitis and these are reccemend preventing methods
  • Limit sun exposure, especially intense midday sun.
  • Use PABA-free sunscreens that protect against UVA and have a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 to 50.
  • Cover up with a long sleeved shirt, long pants, and a wide brimmed hat
I think he must have been humiliated and abused verbally in schools when he was a child and that has made him emotionally shut other's from himself 😆 and added to this his family treated him with an indifference made him a more emotional baggage 😆 and his aversion to being touched or touching others must be a defensive mechanism he has developed to keep himself from more hurt. Because it is shown he is shying to speak up in front of people either his family or strangers and ate being centre of attention 😆 he prefers to be away from crowds just observing others😆 I for one don't think that he was physically abused only he was only verbally and mentally abused by other's for his differences 😆

If Colors website has mentioned it's a disease then that will be the case only. I don't think they will put up a false information on their official website..
But yeah they could in-corporate child abuse or bullying aspect to make Karan's situation more relatable.

Abuse comes in many forms. I'm going to emotional abuse and treated like he was contagious. He has photo sensitivity. People who don't know or aren't educated about it would have treated him badly and made fun off.
