Because he was surprised? If we analyze Karan's previous interactions with NK: he has voiced and shown that he does not agree with his Dad's policies and is bitter toward him. But he has never been at logger-heads with his Dad like he has been with Kunal. NK taunts him and verbally abuses him but he doesn't do anything against it. He sees NK sitting in a room and tries to retreat.
Karan might have strong resentment for his father - but he has clearly problems confronting NK 😆 It might be an introvert thing; wherein he just cannot speak up in crowded places. It might be directly related to NK - e.g. in his childhood, NK treated him harshly and the impression is still there. So, even if he'd love to give NK a piece of his mind, he finds himself tongue-tied, maybe even intimidated in front of/by the man 🤔
That's where we all might have been wrong 😆 Because Karan resents his father, we assumed ke NK won't have any power or influence over him. But this relationship seems a lot more complicated than that- the issues run more deeply into the psyche than we first believed. Maybe. And just because Karan isn't fond of NK, it doesn't have to mean that NK has no influence over him. Maybe he dislikes NK because NK has this kind of affect on him - one of the reasons, at least?
