Yuvraaj - ego bigger than conscience?

After watching today's episode, one very distinct trait of Yuvraaj's personality came into light - his overbearing ego. A few episodes ago, we saw how his fellow batch mates triggered his silent ego by alleging him of having feelings for Suvreen. Since then our in-house cheetah has been hell built on proving them wrong (and to some extent, himself) by causing trouble/humiliation for Suvreen whenever possible.

What was, until today, trouble-making in it's innocent form, blasted out of the boundaries of 'acceptable' and became ruthless torture. All of this, just to massage a bruised ego? Just to prove a point and to maintain a particular 'image'? We have all witnessed Yuvraaj's sensitive side during the hunger strike phase. The way he stood by Suvreen as her silent support clearly showed that he did possess a conscience. Where has that sensitivity gone? It's one thing to rag juniors for the fun of it, it's an entirely different thing to take out personal grudges and vendettas in the name of ragging.

However, I am impressed with the way the creatives have liberally shown the vicious side of ragging in the show. Unfortunately, ragging is a menace that still continues to flourish in most colleges. I have to say though, that DU is mostly ragging-free and there are hardly any colleges that indulge in hardcore ragging anymore. It is now limited to medical and engineering colleges.

I hope Yuvraaj has some redeeming qualities that can make me like him once more.

Awesome post dear...!!!!
This is what I was also thinking after watching yesterday's epi!!
We know that Yuvraaj is a kind hearted person as show in some points or the other in the serial...but ego changed him into a ferocious cheetah of some kind...it became hard for me to believe that it was the same person who had helped Suvreen so much and even tried to get her in a good mood and gave her encouragement during the hunger strike phase!!

Absolutely, you said evrything!!!!
I truly hated his attitude towards Suvreen in yesterdays epi..😡..It was insane to treat a person like that. Even if she did complain you have no right to torture her or Rohit for that matter!!
And just showing off their superiority by saying that we are "seniors"...That was unacceptable!!
Plus there wasnt a remote expression of regret on his or any other seniors face when they came to know that Suvreen was innocent!!!

Firstly great post, very well written and thought provoking. I agree with you on the ragging part but on Yuvi...I hold different views perhaps.

Not everything is black and white in this world, there are grey patches also. Yuvi is human and possess all the different shades of human personality and like you said he has a big ego, men usually do have. He has been looked up all these years, he is a senior, the 'cheetah' of the college so when a new girl comes and tries topple his world like this he is going to react. He is a good hearted person but even he can have his bad days. He has this aggressive side and it's just showing out in this time of trouble. He still does have a conscious but right now his bruised ego and self esteem have taken the front.

So answering your question, yes ego does takes priority over conscience at times. It's not right but it does happen.

I'm no way supporting Yuvi or his act. Ragging under NO circumstances is right. It should be stopped at every point. Also there are much better ways to handle a stressful situation or deal with your emotions rather than taking it out on another party. But usually that's what we all do; I mean we get angry on something else and if we don't have any control over it we start taking out our anger on something that is below us. Here Yuvi is doing just that; kahin ka ghussa Suvreen pe. Again not trying to justify his act, I'm just...trying to understand the character myself and not hate him perhaps.

Agree with you on the redeeming qualities, really hoping to see that Yuvi himself realizes his mistakes and makes up for them. Best would be that its shown he realizes how bad ragging is and tries to stop it.

Just my POV, no offence. :)

Hey!

Well, the same questions arose in my head the other day after watching the episode. Just like you, I was quite annoyed at the relentless torment by the seniors! I concur with the fact that a trifle ragging is acceptable and is supposed to be Just For Fun but the way CVs have taken it OTT is just not going down well with me. Seniors hell bent on punishing Juniors JUST because they got admitted in DPSC is just irksome!
Coming back to how Yuvi is taking it - Umm Well, I'm not too sure about that. Like, I'd expected him to melt towards Suvreen as soon as he'd find out the truth. But guess, I was wrong. And to corroborate my statement of being proved wrong, Yuvi was so harsh towards her later in the discussion session! Guess, I'm gonna wait and watch as his Cheetah character unfolds!

P.S. It was really great to read your post and to see that some of your thoughts match with that of mine! Keep them coming 😊
