I am writing this feedback to everyone here, and esp. to you, Vijay Bhaiya, and I really want u to REPLY to my post. Like I have seen on this very topic that you have replied to many other people in this very topic...
OK, let me first start with the things that raised so much concern in people.
Like yesterday, I was going through this topic and I found the majority saying that they like the present layout, and they don't want it to be changed, because they feel that this latest one isn't much "user-friendly", and this lay-out even makes them feel as a "stranger in their home".
But sorry to say, I disagree on that matter. I PERSONALLY feel that this layout is enough user-friendly. And I seriously can't find anything wrong in this layout (except for a little bit of changes of things) that makes it "not user-friendly". The colours are mixed, mingled and blended in such a NICE way that it seems very much "welcoming and homely" according to me. The base colour of it is white—that means that white consists most of the area, therefore I don't think it will make people feel dizzy or anything. On the contrary, I guess, this light colour like white symbolizes peace and purity, and it will be nice to see light colours in the homepage. And then the other parts of it consists of bright and eye-catching colours, like red, blue, etc. Altogether, I personally feel that the colour combination is excellent, and this new layout is more user-friendly.
And another thing, I really appreciate the fact that now BOLLYWOOD news has been given the same importance as TELLYBUZZ. Agree to the fact that this forum/cite was first introduced to discuss TV programs, but I think its time for this cite to expand, and provide more things than only television. It's a really good decision of yours to Bollywood news and tellybuzz together.
Most of the people here said that Bollywood news is taking too much of space, and that it should be put somewhere else, not beside the tellybuzz, because I-F is more of a television discussion site rather than Bollywood. But again sorry to say, I disagree on this matter. Because I-F is already known as the number one television discussion site...I think it's time for I-F to be also known as the number one Bollywood discussion cite....and many other....
Now at the beginning of your posts you mentioned some points, and i would like to comment about them: I have coloured your points in DARK RED...
a) This is a demo layout and it's not functional. Currently it's just showing 3 channels but we will be having all the channels. Probably all the shows will go in their respective channels page which will reduce the loading time for the homepage.
Sorry, but I am not quite sure what you are trying to say by this. I hope you or someone will explain this. Does it mean that in the homepage we will see only the channels names, but not the shows names? If it is so, I think it will take us a long time to find our favourite shows. Because see, people might visit many different shows from different channels, therefore it will take a lot of time to CLICK each channels and find that forum....
Therefore I think it's better for us to have a different page for all the channels and shows. I like the thing that you did with the homepage now, that is, only names of three channels along with its shows are there. I think that's better to have not more than three channels in the homepage. And those people who want to go to another channel which is not in the homepage, they will have to go that different page where all the names of serials along with channels will be there...
b) We will be even concentrating on promoting General Discussions section so that will also make room on the homepage.
Oh this is really great! Thanks a lot for it. I really wanted I-F to be also known for the general discussion sections, like paranormal, book talk, etc. These general sections are really inactive due to the fact that they were not given in the homepage, so people didn't visit them much. But I think it's really REALLY great that these general section things are not given at the homepage, therefore I hope these forums will become more active than it is now, and I-F will also be known for its general discussion things...
c) We will have the Top 10 most active contributors on the homepage too.
Hmmm not a bad idea...but like every one had said i also agree that there will much spamming...but if the I-F dev. Team can make sure that they will not count unnecessary posts then it's ok. But still, I don't like this idea much...sorry...
d) I know many like to see their name on the homepage page of online users but probably we will have to move it to another page as the members are increasing at a very rapid pace and soon it might reach where there will be thousand names just on the homepage. So keeping scalability issues in mind we will have to move it to the next page.
I think you are right, but this thing is really necessary. Because whenever we come on net, we first look that who is online. Therefore this thing was very much needed. But as you have said, since the population of I-F is increasing, it might be not possible to show all the user's name. Therefore I will request one thing, that is: Atleast show the names of the moderators, viewbies and cite administrators NAME. Because sometimes we need to know which member from I-F Dev. Team is online, therefore I will request you to show the names of the moderators an viewbies atleast.
e) I know I had mentioned about the Buddy list changes but this homepage redesign took some extra time and since we are working on a newer framework for IF.
OK...but this thing is really needed....
f) And a lot of features will be similar to Social Networking sites like Orkut, Facebook. Please note this change will take us around 1 months time once we freeze on the design with around 5 people team as a lot of codes will be completely redone.
Cool! I always wanted I-F to be a social networking site...really glad to know this.
g) We are also working on changing the logo from the current one as this one cant be copyrighted as it has Indian Flag (as per Indian copyright and trademark laws).
I really like the new-logo. For some reason I don't like the present logo much, sorry. So I will definitely prefer this new logo...its really fantastic...
h) You will also notice a "Quick Links" on the right side of the page which is basically a smart customizable slider which slides as the page scrolls down and will also allow members to bookmark their favorite shows so that they can move from one forum to another with ease.
WOW! Great! This was really needed because it takes us too long to go from one forum to another...but with the help of this quick links we won't have any problems....great!
Now here are some of my own suggestions:
i. Like I said before, loved the colour effect. It is way off better than the previous one's colour. But I have just one request to make, that is, the "REGISTER NOW" button which is given inside the blue coloured box isn't looking much nice to me. Because the blue and the red colour isn't going nicely together. I personally think that the "register now" thing is not required there, since it has already been written bigly in the orange box.
ii. The logo is really nice and artistic. Completely loved it. It is showing that this site is very much user friendly and a social networking site. The colours used there are also nice and eye-catching. No suggestions about the logo because it already is very nice.
iii. OK, I have a little bit of suggestion for the "India-forums" writing. At the beginning of the page where it is written "India-forums", I personally think the writing needs to be more eye-catching in order to attract attention. I will say that the colour needs to be changed. Blue is ok, but it needs to be a bit more dark. I like the light blue colour of this forum, but I feel that the writings colour needs to be a bit ore dark in order to get attention from people. Because, see, the light blue colour of the writing isn't suiting beside and behind the dark red and blue colour. Other than that, I think its ok.
iv. The blue boxes…loved them. The colour is really very sweet and user friendly. And I liked the features of the second box very much, that is: update your profile, grow your network, etc" I really liked these things. Again no suggestions from here, cause it's already very much nice.
v. The third blue box, that is the login box, I have some quarries about it. Hope you or someone lese will explain me that properly. After we have logged in, what will happen to it? Surely it will not stay there like that saying that "log-in" since we have already logged in! So what will happen to this box?
vi. I didn't find many important buttons, such as: settings, private messages, and many…where are they? I think this layout is just a provisional one; therefore all the options aren't given. But if you are seriously deciding to not give those options in the homepage, I will say it I very much necessary.
vii. Quick links? WOW! Sounds really great. I think I have already mentioned, but I will like to say it one more time that I personally will appreciate this quick link thing, since it takes us long time to go from one forum to another. But with the help of quick links, it won't take us much to move from here to there!
viii. Tellybuzz and Bollywood news, both are awesome. I like the fact that they are given equal importance. But I have some suggestions over here. Instead of putting the Tellybuzz ABOVE the serial forums, can't we have the Tellybuzz beside it? Like just beside the Tellybuzz is an advertisement, and I think the advertisement part can be moved to somewhere else (which is more prominent, since advertises are made to attract attention), and the Tellybuzz can be brought down there. In that way, just beside the serial forums, we can have the Tellybuzz. I want this to happen, because for some reason the Bollywood and Tellybuzz thing isn't going together. Because Bollywood is about movies, whereas Tellybuzz is about serials. Therefore we can have the Tellybuzz just beside the serial forum. And we can have the Bollywood forum above them, just the way it is now. And beside Bollywood, in the Tellybuzz's place) we can have Bollywood related things like Bollywood forums, etc etc.
ix. Like everyone had said, I also want to repeat this that global announcements are made to catch the audience's attention. If they are side-tracked, then I don't think anyone will see them. So, I think it should be put somewhere in the middle so that it can attract our attention.
x. About the random videos. It's good that they are put in the homepage, in that way people will get to see them more and will come to know more about I-F. But I do not like the way/style it is put. I prefer the present style, that there are three rows and three columns, (totally there re nine videos) and the writing "Random videos" was ABOVE the videos. But in this one the writing is in the middle, and the arrangement is also not even. So, I personally prefer the previous style.
xi. Now about general discussion forums…like I said before I am very happy that now I-F's homepage will also contain general discussion forums which will help these forums to become active; anyway I have got few suggestions for this part. Instead of giving "comas" to separate the forums, can't the forums be written in different lines? I mean instead of giving comas and putting all the forums together, why can't each line contain one forum? Like in the lifestyle section, food drinks and recipes can be in the first line, then college and university can be in the second line, and then science technology can be on another line…in this way. Because separating forums by coma doesn't look much good according to my opinion. And its even confusing to understand or separate the forums properly, cause when the forums are separated by comas, all of them seem to be one forum.
xii. Another suggestion I will like to give about the general section is that the colour of the writing needs to be changed. Because the light blue colour is very hard to notice behind a white background. I personally think that either the background colour for the general section needs to be changed, or the colour of the text needs to be changed, since it's not much noticeable.
xiii. Can the "general" in the general discussion forums be at the top of the page, like now? Because the forums that is inside the general thing, is very VERY important. Like suggestion corner, Rules and announcements, avi and siggi shop, advice corner, etc are important part of I-F. They should be at the very top of the page not at the bottom. The other general discussion forums can stay at the bottom, but only that part needs to be sifted at the top, according to my opinion.
Over all, i will say that this layout is 100 times better than the present one...this one is very much smart and techy...👏cant wait for it😛
