There are some things which, if added, will make the site much better and also more useful for members. I’m not complaining, just merely suggesting here…
Firstly as the creators and owners of threads, it would be ideal if we were given more control over them. For eg, thread creators should be able to unlock their own threads whenever needed and also have the option to delete them completely if they wish. And please don’t reply with the usual “every post matters to us” line … creators should have the authority to delete their own threads .. at least the useless ones. I don’t think anyone really cares about a random 2-line post. And anyway if there’s ever a problem, we can always move it back from the bin
Secondly is it possible to add a “Delete PM” option that removes the message not only from the sender’s inbox, but also from the receiver’s? This isn’t a high demand, it’s pretty basic. It would be really helpful especially for those messages we regret sending later.
Thirdly please bring back the old profile layout where a CC and FFE editor etc was shown with a yellow band. I think it’s only fair to get recognized. Every thread we make takes time and effort. Can’t even use ChatGPT because members notice and may point it out … so the least we can expect is some recognition
Please do think about these features

Also I don’t know where to raise this, so I’m just putting it here itself… can the contest organizers maybe discuss the contest format before posting it officially? Either with members or among their co workers? Because we had this micro-fiction contest where there were more than 120 entries. (Ussi din se bolna tha but I got busy so here it is)
It was tough both for the voters and the participants. Members had to do the voting and honestly I’m pretty sure no one could’ve read everything till the very end 🙏 (if someone actually did, then you have my huge respect). Even mods are human and mismanagement can happen, I totally understand that… but we should try to do something to improve this. Kyuki its just time and talent waste. Discussing before posting is a good idea I believe. Might as well save us from logicless contests.
I really hope this message doesn’t get ignored. It took me a good 20 minutes to type all this out..
Your points were legitimate and thoughtfully presented. I really appreciate the effort you took to share those, Anu.

India Forums isn’t just Vijay’s

it’s ours, i.e, the members’ too. As members of this IF we have every right to request for a few favours and to offer suggestions for the benefit of the community.

Your points regarding thread makers’ rights to control, delete PM option, and restoring the old profile layout with special mention of FFE & CC under the UN will be addressed directly by Vijay.
Regarding the microfiction issue, I’d like to clarify again, since it has been raised both earlier and now.
The participation level was overwhelming ... managing 122 micro-fictions was not an easy task. As moderators of that forum, Suta and I discussed it intermittently and decided on the issues, while Priya(LizzieBennet) was on leave from IF at that time.
The contest was therefore conducted in three rounds of voting. Splitting it into 10–12 posts would have meant 10 rounds of voting, which is not only exhausting for any organiser but also demanding for members who are expected to cast their votes!!
We must also acknowledge the recent decline in members’ voting participation. Whether it’s a fiction-based contest or a banner contest, we often find ourselves literally requesting.... members to come and cast their votes. Keeping this in mind, we felt three rounds were manageable, both for us and for the voters. That is why we adopted that structure then.
By now, many of you must be aware that I deeply admire good writers and take every opportunity to felicitate them whenever and wherever possible

. The voting in the microfiction contest was, I admit, a bit disappointing for me too—some true gems were unfortunately sidelined, and that is something I continue to regret. As a judge, however, I sincerely did my very best to ensure justice was done to every entry from my side.
We value your concerns and will keep them in mind for future contests.
