Okay, here with today's quick takes - everyone who chipped in about yesterday's episode 🤗 glad to have you all here!
And here goes ... something!
---
Sachin P. - I'm going to be honest and admit, that as much as I've been an admirer of his various works, in my head I did not see how Sachinji would pull off a 'rockstar' singing avatar. But was i wrong or what! Such a wonderful, wonderful old school entertainer - everything about the 'old school' here applies in such a good sense. I've never heard the song before, and it wasn't exactly a beat that just catches up - but his vocals had a classic 'old school' playback singing quality. In fact the whole performance just sort of transported me into some song and performer from the 70's! Echoing Alisha's word - Sachinji had the body language of a veteran on stage, he was a complete package not to mention that air about him of how into the mood he was, how much he was enjoying his performance. While Mansi yesterday was a brilliant talent, showing every sign of someone who is devoted to singing her first love; Sachinji IMO took a step up on her by being complete in every way, he wasn't just enjoying 'singing' but being all out there! I'd give Mansi a 21 on her singing frankly speaking, and in having a singer's appeal, but Sachinji deserved his 20 for being a complete package, an on stage rockstar - including, I have to add, his vote appeal, which went on to emphasize, why he's such a veteran - will give even a 'matters not a damn' detail such a genuine shot! 👏 ps: 50 years is wow-awesome! I had no idea! And I dunno if he has sung before, but if true to his word he hasn't - the fact that he'd still be trying his hand at new things - what a rare quality! 👏
Raagini K. - 😲 She opened that song, and I was like, whoa Mansi, here comes competition for vocals! Raagini was fantastic - and really, that's not half the word I'm looking for. I suppose her USP lies in how much she emotes with her voice, plays around the tones and trills, and, doesn't show the slightest sign of cracking! Absolutely entertaining, add Raagini's attitude to all that, and get every making of a rockstar. Honestly, with Sachinji opening, and Raagini's stupendous second up - I was compelled to think yesterday was a rather solo win day (taking nothing away from Mansi on that account); today is competition! 👏 Brownie points to Raagini's choice of song - whether it was her voice that rendered so much nazaqat and harqat to the lyrics, or vice versa - I'd call the choice tailor made for her! There were moments in the song in fact, that she brought in so much variation, I would have but wondered if I didn't know better if she wasn't lip-syncing with a playback! Brilliant moderation in tones 👏 And having said all that - I have to add 17 for Raagini was, IMO, disappointing. But oh well for next times! Side note: Sumit and Gina's laughing competition 🤣 I wish Malik would stop butting in 🥱 And @ Mansi's expression to Raagini's karuna appeal 😆 The camera caught such a perfect blank look 😆
Chavi M. - When she started, she was a decent regular start. As she progressed, I found her shaky, perhaps nervous. I also have a personal preference for the more deep gut vocals as opposed to the shrill female vocals - so perhaps that has some opinion to blame. But as the third performer of the day, for me she was easily rank 3. And then she spoke and said her hands were shaking - I was like, eh, that showed Chavi! 😳 For once I agree with Anu Malik's word over how the 'Bahara' part of her singing was the only smooth sailing. Overall - to me - she's among the lower options.
Debina B. - Erm, disappointing... Her song choice was so wrong from the first line she sang. The alteration between high and low notes - patchy execution. Ended too soon - but really, I'm not complaining. To me, the only contestant up to this point, not really made for a singing stage. If I thought Neha took a huge chance with her lack of singing background, Debina took that risk to a new high. I honestly think the judges were kind with their scores.
Manish P. - A raw voice. Not necessarily bad, in fact some parts of his song were well executed, but certainly in need of more 'exercise'! The plus point is the power of his vocals, but could do far better with improved 'channeling'. I'll rest at calling him a decent amateur. And yes, as Sachinji said - Manish did look like he was having fun up there on the stage, a good sign, even if I don't think he'll go too far with the top rung of competition this show has. Side note: Mona and Manish 😆 Well wishing friends on Manish's VT 🤣 Manish's magic trick 😆 Manish's vote appeal 🤣 🤣 🤣 eh hoyaa hun wadiyaa Punjabi 😎 Can someone hire an RJ like him on my local radio pleej?! 🤔

As a final take on this first week, I'd put Raagini at top (17 was so not her score, all the more surprised at Alisha deducting!) because to me she compounded Mansi's vocal excellence and Sachinji's comfortable 'rockstar' presence. Mansi next, and in terms of singing these two are really the equal and top competition. In terms of such a subtly powerful stage presence, Sachinji next. Then Sumit. And Vikas. Neha, Manish and Chavi are equals to me, although I personally think Chavi has more scope to improve than the other two because her issue, to me, was far more about her nerves than being raw. Debi bottom of the rung - I wish she can get off without going too far because then the controversies get oh-so-unnecessary and ugly.
And that winds up this weekend. Don't forget to chip in your takes everyone!
