Urmila stood in the banks of Sarayu. It was night. A half moon was seen. She had come alone from the palace. Her sisters had protested. But she didn't listen. She didn't wanted to listen to anyone. All through her life she had listened. But today, today she wanted to be heard. There was no one in palace who will listen to her, to whom she could share her pain. Hence she ran from the palace, ran like mad and stood in front of Sarayu.
Tears were flowing from her eyes. Her soul had died. She couldn't believe what had happened. Ram Bhaiyya have sacrificed his brother, her swami.
Her Swami who had walked with Ram Bhaiyya like his shadow sacrificing all personal sacrifices. Her Swami who had sacrificed 14 years of his sleep for Ram Bhaiyya . Her Swami who had fought a war for Ram Bhaiyya. Her Swami on whom Ram Bhaiyya forced the despicable deed of telling Sita didi the truth of her banishment which also he had done for Ram Bhaiyya. That Ram Bhaiyya has banished him.
Urmila sank in the steps of Sarayu wailing loudly " Tell me Sarayu what wrong my Swami do to get this punishment. Tell me Sarayu why the reeti, neeti and maryada of Kul has only given pain to its woman. My sister Sita didi was the purest woman I had ever known. This kul reeti, neeti banished her forcing her to take her own life. Shanta didi have lived the life of a hermit because this kul needed a boy. Mata Kausalya and Mata Sumitra had to let go of their sons to 14 year Vanvas because of the reeti, neeti of this kul. Mandavi didi lived alone in the palace for 14 years because Bharath Jijashree wanted to follow the foot steps of his brother. Father, brother, kul ki neeti, reeti, maryada when will this Kul's men listen to one's wife, mother, sister. When will the tears stop. Today my Swami broke the promise to me, for protecting the reeti, neeti maryada of this kul. He choose death without thinking about his ardhangnini. He left me in this palace once again. Tell me Sarayu when will the tears stop for the woman of this kul. Tell me Sarayu is it water flowing in you or the tears of woman of Ayodhya enriches you. For your survival you need our tears. Tell me Sarayu. Do you want more tears. How much more tears you will take , how much more.
She broke down on the banks, crying desperately as Mandavi and Kirti came towards Sarayu
Guys this is not exactly my creation. This is more or less the translation of what I had studied of the book " Urmila" for Malayalam second paper in 9th std. This is from its last chapter.

Its a long time since you wrote an OS on Lakshmila

Really Nice One .👏

As strong as a lady Urmila was , there was no denying the fact that her tears in solitude stated the tough life she and her husband went through , with much more moments of pain and grief rather than happiness.

It was touching yet through urmila u brutally exposed Raghukul which handed over injustice from shanta to Sita to laxman. For which urmila and Ram suffer.

Shruthi, you have narrated well about the anguish of an isolated woman who has to suffer for all the customs and tradition and promise of family she entered as a bride and ended as a widow.

Yes one needs to follow the rules and regulations of the society and had to keep up the promise given to people. But at what cost? Here is a person who abandons a lady and claim he did it as a king and not as a husband. His love for his wife is intact but he can't give her the status of a queen just because his subjects object for that?Agreed, he had to do his duty as a king and disown his queen but was she not one of his subject? When Rajaram could question his subjects and allow them to present their case, why not in his wife's case? Why did he take an unilateral decision to save her from heart break? Did he not think twice before ordering Lakshman to abandon her in forest (even if he had to drop her to Valmiki Ashram), was he so presumed that if she gets to know the reason for abandoning from his face, she will break down while she realizes that later, she will sustain herself? The justification of he wanted her to question the society later was a not just acceptable Shruthi. By abandoning her he stamped the rumor and made it permanent.

Now he disowns his own brother because he didn't want to sentence him to death? How justifiable is that? How can throwing him out is equal to saving his life? That too when his brother knew the punishment for his mistake is death penalty and his brother has altered it just to keep him alive? the great warrior that Lakshman how can he would have braced the leased life given to him? How justifiable was that altered punishment? If it was agreed that the one who breaks the rule had to give up his life, then if it was not lakshman but some one else, a soldier or a guard, would ram changed his decision and abandoned him than giving death sentence? And first of all, how did ram agreed to the condition when he was against sacrificing even the horse?

So all the rules are bendable at circumstances and When Urmila's staying in palace during the 14 years was justified as only Ram was banished and so Sita had to follow him and Lakshman just gone on his own and Urmila need not have to follow him, why it was not the same case when Lakshman was cut off from the roots? When he was no longer a Raghuvanshi, how can his wife be the Kulvadhu of Raghuvansh? Why the one who followed foot steps of his brother be sacrificed for the same reason that he tried to save his brother and his rajya from the curse?

Why Ram had to take unilateral decisions always? Why he could not foresee what his decisions will land his near and dear ones? Had he been open with Sita about him abandoning her for his Raj neeti, she would have accepte it as his concern and would have left Ayodhya with happiness that her husband had to make a tough decision with great pain but he snatched that peace from her. Now when Lakshman knew that cutting off is equivalent to death sentence, how did he believe that his brother will live away from him and turned his face while he was leaving? He could have atleast blessed him one last time.

Urmila's cry to Sarayu was justified but will she ever get an answer to her outburst? Will her sisters be able to answer her queries?
