Last night I saw that episode on Hotstar where Shatrughan gave a verdict against the washer man's daughter. I remember seeing that scene earlier too on tv. I was wondering why they were showing all this since beginning. Why to focus on that incident which is to come much later ? But to be frank I'm much impressed by SKR team for handling that part of uttar kand in this manner. In a way they are giving an important answer to all the people who keep asking the question why Ramji abandoned devi Sita.

We look at that incident from our view, from the view of a society which came 2000 years later and is way more liberal. We have to but accept that the society then was way more patriarchal. There's no asking why it was so. For us it is nothing more than a fact. The incident with washerman's daughter tells us the rules for ladies were quite stringent.

Now considering Ramji's situation people say he should have stood by her. But see it from the view of that society wouldn't they have thought that he's showing favouritism. Some of you may not like my views, but then this is not my view I'm just thinking it from the mindset of those people. It happens with us too, when we see politicians standing up for their relatives and our first instinct says "apni baari mein rules badal jaate hain".

I'm not vouching for those people, nor saying that what Shri Ram did was right. But that, in that situation, and considering the role he had to play for society he was helpless with no other choice.

It's very easy to make him a villain and Sitaji a victim in this situation.

People say he should have abdicated the throne. But are we sure enough that it would have cleared her name. People would have had same feelings for her and they would have viewed Ram as somebody who let go of his duties for his love. Today his step would have been hailed and such accusations would never have been put on him.

But decisions are taken keeping in view the present not thinking how people who will come 2000 years later would him as.
