Channel has nothing to do with storyline. They care only about TRPs. Slots are given based on the story and contracts are signed. If the PH is not able to generate the required TRP's then channel giives them warnings/notices to buckle up. SP and Sony give every show 6 months, hence we see shows closing shop within 6 months if they do not generate the required TRP. I heard somewhere DD signed this it had a year worth of script that was approved so not sure if Color follows the one year rule.
PH always follow the original storyline but everything is track based. If some track does not work, they change the track but the original storyline which has been conveyed to the channel and actor for them to sign the contract is always followed. Once the initial period is over, and if there is extension then they have to resubmit the story based on the extension period and rope in the actors again which at that point decide if they want to continue or terminate. This happens at every extension that the show gets. If the actor is not happy in the middle of the timeline, he has to give a long notice else there are lot of legalities involved which the actor definitely cannot afford. The actor has no hold on anyone because PH and channel are bigger fish in the whole scheme of things.
Even when "Peheradar piya ki" was closed due to high opposition, they came back with the same story but just with a leap and a replacement for the child actor.
