I know a story just like this. Two friends in college, best friends, inseparable. One friend was with this guy; he was insecure from the beginning. He controlled the friend and didn't make her feel good. But, he was good to other people and they all thought he was so great. She used to confide in her best friend but then the best friend and the boyfriend got close. She found it. She was so devastated.
She dumped that guy and she never spoke to her friend again.
She told me she mourned that friend for at least a year. Whenever she thought about her she cried. That friend was more than a sister. The real heartbreak was to learn so young what a friend is capable of
By the way, today, she's doing so well. Very successful and most importantly, she found a wonderful life partner. She said she was determined to not become bitter and not to stop trusting people. She's brave. She worked hard to overcome that heartbreak.
