Note: I know this post is EXTREMELY long, but please bear with me till you guys read the true message underneath all this jabber. 😊
So, I've been watching Shastri Sisters' episodes marathon-style and the story is simple with youthful characters (not without shortcomings) but certain situations really make the story shine. ⭐️
For example, whenever a child is lost whether in reality or fiction, the worst is assumed (like when Guddu went missing and the Sareens and Shastris thought she had gone off with a possible child molester). It was really refreshing to see the man had ridden her all around the neighbourhood to get her back home because nice guys DO exist. Moral of the story: Not all men are thugs or potential criminals, but a girl shouldn't let her guard down.
Self-defence also seems to be a running theme in the show. 👏 Devyani refuses to change her attire and give into the fear of being assaulted - she knows it's not she who must change, but the men who act like beasts on women who should get rehabilitated or punished.
As for Neil, he has been misunderstood for a large part. The girls ganged up on him for no reason,
1st: When he accidentally (keyword being accidentally) sat at the wrong seat and yeah, he acted cocky about it (while being cocky isn't a crime! 😆).
2nd. When he tried to secretly take his bag out of the previous compartment (secretly because he KNEW he'd be misunderstood).
So, the revenge bit went a couple miles too far by the too-many-days-long terrorising of Devyani. But the point is - Neil is a normal guy, having normal reactions to humiliating situations. Again, I like that he reacts when something bad happens to him, but he's a generally nice guy who loves his small family and cares about them. So I have faith that in the end, he'll come around.
Then there's Alka... who has been infuriating for the most part of the series. I thought she was selfish, self-centered, foolish, and uncaring (and I could just go on and on about her seeming lack of character) which made me believe she didn't deserve a nice guy like Rohan. I was pleasantly surprised when the story unfolded to show she had ended up creating a dream world she could confine herself in because the responsibilities she had to take up without complain made her want something more out of life. A happy ending. Freedom. Being swept off of her feet (as most cliche Hindi films depict is the idea of a perfect life). Rajeev represented all of that so she fought for it. Not in the right means and it made me resent her, the way she treated her loving family, but the story delicately created feelings of sympathy in me, so much that I wish she'd get her happy ending already.
The story line does move at various speeds of lethargy at times but when it does pick up, again, that feeling of satisfaction is really gratifying. 😆 I love misunderstandings being resolved quickly without being drawn on for months and months and even more so when they're prevented, for example when Alka immediately lays her past to Rohan on seeing his goodness (fake teeth!🤣). It's also nice to watch Minty's occasional bouts of niceness to the Shastri sisters because all these small moments fully serve the purpose of keeping these characters real.
Part of the purpose of THIS post is to say kudos to the CVs for creating these likable people interacting in a clean story which in all its recent drama is still a pleasant watch. 👏👏 The other part is to say please don't spoil it.
I've been worried things might go in the wrong direction with Aastha being in vamp mode duty 24/7 and reading about how 'Alka's life will be made hell' in her sasural. I hope the show will keep surprising me like it has done before, so Rohan stands up for her (Rajeev, you coward, I'm looking at you very accusingly right now). And I hope Anu doesn't have to make this great sacrifice of giving up her love for her sister or worse, Devyani hating her if she didn't.
In spite of saying all this, watching the episodes in bulk has also given me loads of perspective and hope that things would go fine. Anu saying that no man can ever come in between 2 sisters when Devyani was fretting over 'her man' liking one of the others instead of her. And the time when Anu stated her faith in Rohan, that he will prove a better man for Alka than Rajeev. I hope her prophecies come true. 😊
Let's all keep faith then, fellow Shastrians? 😃
