There are four Yugas in one cycle:
- Satya Yuga (also known as Krita Yuga "Golden Age")
- Treta Yuga
- Dvapara Yuga
- Kali Yuga
Characteristics of each Yuga
- Satya Yuga (also known as Krita Yuga "Golden Age"): The first and best Yuga. It was the age of truth and perfection. The Krita Yuga was so named because there was but one religion, and all men were saintly: therefore they were not required to perform religious ceremonies. Humans were gigantic, powerfully built, honest, youthful, vigorous, erudite and virtuous. The Vedas were one. All mankind could attain to supreme blessedness. There was no agriculture or mining as the earth yielded those riches on its own. Weather was pleasant and everyone was happy. There were no religious sects. There was no disease, decrepitude or fear of anything.Average human lifespan was 100,000 years.
- Treta Yuga: Is considered to be the second Yuga in order, however Treta means the "Third". In this age, virtue diminishes slightly. At the beginning of the age, many emperors rise to dominance and conquer the world. Wars become frequent and weather begins to change to extremities. Oceans and deserts are formed. People become slightly diminished compared to their predecessors. Agriculture, labour and mining become existent.Average human lifespan was 10,000 years.
- Dvapara Yuga: Is considered to be the third Yuga in order. Dvapara means "two pair" or "after two". In this age, people become tainted with Tamasic qualities and aren't as strong as their ancestors. Diseases become rampant. Humans are discontent and fight each other. Vedas are divided into four parts. People still possess characteristics of youth in old age. Average lifespan of humans is around a few centuries.Average human lifespan was 1,000 years.
- Kali Yuga: The final age. It is the age of darkness and ignorance. People become sinners and lack virtue. They become slaves to their passions and are barely as powerful as their earliest ancestors in the Satya Yuga. Society falls into disuse and people become liars and hypocrites. Knowledge is lost and scriptures are diminished. Humans eat forbidden and dirty food. The environment is polluted, water and food become scarce. Wealth is heavily diminished. Families become non-existent. By the end of Kali Yuga the average lifespan of humans will be as low as 70-100 years.
According to one Puranic astronomical estimate, the four Yuga have the following durations:
- Satya Yuga equals 1,728,000 Human years
- Treta Yuga equals 1,296,000 Human years
- Dvapara Yuga equals 864,000 Human years
- Kali Yuga equals 432,000 Human years
Together, these four yuga constitute one Mahayuga and equal 4.32 million human years.
Lord Vishnu incarnated in four forms i.e. Matsya, Kurma, Varaha and Narsimha in Satya yug.
Lord Vishnu was seen incarnated in his fifth, sixth and seventh forms as Vamana (the dwarf), Parashurama and Rama respectively in treta yug.In his fifth avatara, Vishnu incarnated as Vamana, the dwarf. He was born to Aditi and his main avatar mission was to subdue King Mahabali, who came from the Asura race.Next, Vishnu incarnated as the Brahmin, Parashurama. Since there were too many Kshatriyas who were constantly at war with each other at the time, he incarnated in order to destroy most of the world's warriors.Next, Vishnu took the avatar of Lord Sri Rama, also known as Ramachandra. His mission was to curb the steady rise of evil and to destroy Ravana, the demon king of Lanka. So , Ramayan happened in the 24th treta yug.
Mahabharat was fought at the end of Dwapara yug.In 3140 BCE, the Kurukshetra War ended. The Dvapara Yuga, the third of the four yugas, mainly talks about the life and times of Lord Sri Krishna, the ninth avatara of Maha Vishnu. In fact, this yuga ends when the Krishna completes his life mission and returns to his original abode of Vaikuntha. From the Shatarudra Samhita of the Shiva Purana, in the course of describing the various Dwapara Yugas of the Vaivasvata Manvantara, it says about Krishna:
In the twenty-eighth aeon of Dwapara, there will be Dwaipayana Vyasa, the son of Parashara, and the most excellent of Purushas [Vishnu] shall be born as Krishna with his one-sixth part, as the foremost of the sons of Vasudeva.
Three to four months after the Kurukshetra war, the Kali Yuga began. Kali Yuga began at midnight (00:00) on 18 February 3120 BCE.This is also considered the date on which Lord Krishna left the earth to return to Vaikuntha.
Kali (not to be confused with the Hindu goddess Kali) is the reigning lord of Kali Yuga and his nemesis is Kalki, the tenth and final avatar of Lord Vishnu. According to the Vishnu Purana, Kali is a negative manifestation working towards the cause of 'the end' or rather towards eventual rejuvenation of the universe.Kali also serves as an antagonistic force in the Kalki Purana. It is said that towards the end of this yuga, Kalki will return riding on a white horse to do battle with Kali and his dark forces. The world will suffer a fiery cataclysm that will destroy all evil, and a new age (the next Satya Yug of the following Mahayuga), will begin.Kalki is believed to be coming with the mission of destroying the Kali Yuga and reinstate the glory of the Satya yuga. In the Satya yuga, Bhagwan Kalki would destroy all sins and evils. He would perform the Ashwamedha Yagya and then leave the whole world under the care of Brahmins. He would hence re-establish the auspicious ideals and principles propounded by Lord Brahma. After completing his mission, he would travel deep into the forest to practice penance.
If a show is made on Kalki only , I want to see Kartikey in the role of Kalki.😳
In the show , the last yug shown was treta , or may be I am wrong. So , when young Shani left Suryalok , was it treta yug too? And Bhadra's birth , was it treta yug too? So , if it was , then young Shani was seen in Satya yug & treta yug , and grown-up Shani in treta yug , right..? Tell me please... so ,I guess , the devtas age very slowly ...😆
Clear my confusion dear...
