Television is really pushing the envelope literally and it seems that the latest offbeat thing on TV is the third gender. With Shakti - Astitva Ke Ehsaas Kis attempt to put the transgender community in the spot light, there is another TV show that will add a transgender character to their show. Upcoming show, Devanshi, which revolves the concept of people worshipping God men and God women, will also have a transgender character playing an important role. The transgender's role will be essayed by famous actor Aamir Dalvi. He will be playing a cross dresser or a kinnar, Mohini who will be seen wearing sarees and makeup. He will actually be a man called Mohan who dons a saree and puts on makeup to make a living. Set in Haryana, Mohini is the side kick kinnar of God women Maa Kusum Sundari the God woman played by Karuna Pandey .
Mohini will be the lady who assists Maa Kusum Sundari during the day but at night and in private he is Mohan who is her live -in partner. It's quite a bold role that's never seen before on Indian Televison. Cross dressers and drags have been shown in a rather comical way in shows like Pammi Pyarelal, comedy nights, The Kapil Sharma show and other reality shows. But a real drag queen and his life's dilemma, both as a man and woman, will be shown on Indian Television for the first time. Maa Kusum Sundari's role has been reportedly inspired from the controversial Radhey Maa and all the stories around her. Though officially there is no reference to Radhey Maa, this God Woman who is a revered lady in public is a woman with selfish motives. She exploits people, be it the little girl Devanshi or Mohan. The show breaks the stereotypes and shows the superstitious faiths of people and its effects.
Aamir Dalvi has a macho personality and it's a challenge that he has to appear a drag queen on TV. Aamir made his debut with Jab Love Hua on Zee TV and went on to do shows like Saathi Re, Shapath, Badi Devrani, Parwarish and Bhage Re Mann. Till now Aamir had played a cop, a husband and an obsessed lover, but the role of Mohini is a complete twist in his career. Aamir and Karuna have worked together recently in Bhage Re Mann' season 2 and now again they are paired in Devanshi. Though this time, they appear as a really offbeat couple that might shock people. New age Television is offering the audience a lot of offbeat concepts as opposed to the regular family dramas.
