The story mainly happens in a small town more like a village, a beautiful village, A live with his wife and four daughters, named punitha, valar, and the two younger daughters. they owned a reasonable amount of land and they raise "malligai thotam" there for a living and they really enjoy working there, as a family they work in there and sell the flowers in the nearby town market, they live happily, he has a childhood friend named Subiah (Visu), he is a widower has two grownup sons, Named Balu and Somu, Both subiah and A are childhood friends but they are more like a family, Both families have decided to tie their relationship even stronger with a marriage, they wanted to get married Subiah's son Balu to A's daughter Punitha. Both Balu and Punitha are very happy with this arrangement.
Balu is working as a taxi driver, and a shy person in general, but he loves punitha dearly, he wanted his wife to live without any problems after marriage. so he collect all the items with his earning essential and a little luxury for that particular place to run a family (eg: washing machine, fridge, fan etc).
In another small town a person called Dheenadhayalan, he's filthy rich and an influencial person in the surrounding area because of the money. But he's not decent as he poses, he has a person as his right hand called Umapathy, He's so loyal to Dheenadhayalan, has all the bad habits. He got a brother called seethapathy (Absar) and mum. Dheenadhayalan treats umapathy nicely and poses that he loves him as a brother but in deep down he only see him as a hunting dog. One day dheenadhayalan(DD) show a picture of a girl and asked umapathy to marry her somehow, The girl in that picture is none other than Punitha. DD wanted to get A's land and the malligai thotam its seems its a long time revenge he had in his heart. dheenadhayalan and A had some problems in the past, no one knows what.
Umapathy come to that town and first he see Balu as a villian to his plan so he and DD cook some plan and put Balu in jail in a drug smuggling case, after that Umapathy become frinedly with punitha, everyone at punitha's house doesn't like this new friendship, especially her sister Valar. Umapathy played some tricks and punitha seems fall for it, and accept to marry him. Punitha's dad chase her out of the house.
Punitha's sister Valar is a character who is more practical and less sentiments, there is a group wanted to get the malligai thotam and offered to pay 6 million rupees for the land, but A doesn't wanted to sell the land as he has sentimental attachment with the land. Valar is so adamant in this matter and wants to sell the land and get the money.
In Punitha's matter subiah agrees to get married punitha to Umapathy. Punitha asked umapathy, If he release balu somehow from the jail, then there is no more disturbance in their marriage. Umapathy agrees and with the help of dheenadhayalan balu get released from jail. But now Subbiah started to act weiredly, he doesn't like his friend or his family any more. Umapathy wants to get married urgently, Punitha agreed and they fixed a date for the marriage, released balu from jail saw the relationship between punitha and umapathy and over heard they are going to get married, he told that to his father but his dad just ignores it. Balu's so sad, Subiah's second son forces subiah to stop the wedding as umapthy is not a good person, and punitha's life will get ruined if they don't stop the wedding that scheduled for the next day early morining. So both father and Somu went to the temple to stop the wedding, At the same time DD get ready to go to 'A''s malliagai thotam with a bull doser and wanted to destroy it after umapathy tie the thali and get the land as a dowry. At the temple when umapthy about to tie the thali, punitha slaps him hard on the face and says all the love and the marriage plan are her and subiah's trick to get balu released from jail. and now they achieved what they want. and they now know dheenadhayalan behind it, The family members with subiah and son arrived there and all are happy, But Balu doesn't know anything about it and he doesn't wanted to see Punitha as a wife of someone else and leave the village left a letter behind, Everyone from both families are sad with Balu's disappearance. And when days pass by Valar insists to sell the land and A's wife also wanted now to sell the land, without any option A agreed to sell it and Punitha and Subiah went to the buyer and get an advance for the land.
Balu left the village and try to commit suicide by jumping infront of a lorry, the lorry driver try to avoid him and hit a oncoming car, in the car a family, father, mum and the daughter was there, the daughter is about to marry, get hit and had so many internal injuries, doctor told that girl can't get married as her health condition has deteriorated by the accident even if they get her married the family life will kill her. Dad and mum scold Balu for this and Balu is so guilty about all this and now he wanted to give mental strength to the girl to have confidence in life.
