The religion of Islam began expanding out from the Gulf of Arabia at a great speed and by the late 7th century AD they had spread all over Southern Europe and had already breached the borders of India. Their presence was felt in Africa, Asia and Europe and all this happened a lot earlier than the Holy crusades.
So, much of Europe is largely familiar with the ways and the fanatic beliefs that the religion of Islam instills in its followers. The word Fanatic can also be interpreted as Faith, devotion and sacrifice for a cause. The cause here being God.
The twin tower attacks now known as 9/11 is still in the news because it happened in New York, USA. People all over the world are enamoured by America and its Hollywood glitz.
Europe has suffered its share of deadly attacks and the most recent one was the coordinated attack against civilians at the Crocus City Hall music venue in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Oblast, Russia. On 22 March 2024, four attackers associated with Islamic State – Khorasan Province (IS–KP or ISIS-K) carried out a mass shooting, as well as slashing attacks on the people gathered at the venue, and used incendiary devices to set the venue on fire. Investigators said 145 people had been killed (including those who died later in hospital), and more than 551 concertgoers injured by gunfire or suffering from burns. On 28 March, Russian authorities also claimed that a further 95 people were missing.
France has faced and suffered many a times at the hands of Islam terrorists and sadly Paris has been at the center of most of these horrific incidents. I will list out a few recent attacks so that it will shed some light on the heights of awareness that the police and army are in all over France.
On 7 January 2015, at about 11:30 a.m. in Paris, France, the employees of the French satirical weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo were targeted in a shooting attack by two French-born Algerian Muslim brothers, Saïd Kouachi and Chérif Kouachi. Armed with rifles and other weapons, the duo murdered 12 people and injured 11 others; they identified themselves as members of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which claimed responsibility for the attack. They fled after the shooting, triggering a manhunt, and were killed by the GIGN on 9 January.
On 9 January 2015, Amedy Coulibaly, armed with a submachine gun, an assault rifle, and two Tokarev pistols, entered and attacked a Hypercacher kosher supermarket in Porte de Vincennes in Paris, France. There, Coulibaly murdered four Jewish hostages and held fifteen other hostages during a siege in which he demanded that the Kouachi brothers not be harmed. The siege ended when police stormed the supermarket, killing Coulibaly. The attack and hostage crisis occurred in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo shooting two days earlier, and concurrently with the Dammartin-en-Goële hostage crisis in which the two Charlie Hebdo gunmen were cornered.
On the evening of 14 July 2016, a 19-tonne cargo truck was deliberately driven into crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France, resulting in the deaths of 86 people and the injury of 434 others. The driver was Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel, a Tunisian living in France. The attack ended following an exchange of gunfire, during which he was shot and killed by police.
Why always France?
Islamists often claim that France is a legitimate target due to its long history of interventions in the Muslim world, particularly the Middle East and North Africa.
Islamists often claim that France is a legitimate target due to its long history of interventions in the Muslim world, particularly the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. France has historically seen the Mediterranean as a region of strategic importance in its struggle against other European states. From the late 18th to the early 20th century, France lost a war with Britain over Egypt, colonised Algeria after a bloody military campaign and Tunisia despite Italian protests, and partitioned Morocco together with Spain to the detriment of Germany.
After World War I, France gained a further foothold in the Middle East by obtaining a League of Nation mandate to govern what is now Syria and Lebanon. French interventionism continued as the decolonisation process ensued during the Cold War. Most notably, it tried to prevent Algerian independence, fighting a seven-year war against nationalist forces which killed hundreds of thousands of people and was eventually lost by France. While France was against the 2003 invasion of Iraq, interference in the Muslim world also continued after the Cold War when perceived national interests were at stake.
In 2011, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his Foreign Minister Alain Juppé were two of the main proponents of the NATO military intervention in Libya which overthrew Muammar Gaddafi but paved the way for instability and a surge of refugees towards Europe. France also intervened militarily in Mali, its former colony, in 2013, in order to counter a rebellion initiated by Islamist militias.
France has also been involved in air strikes in Syria since September 2015, intensifying its efforts after the November 2015 terror attacks. This sustained interference in the Muslim world fuelled the notion of the Western world attacking Islam and France being one of the main perpetrators.
Now with the Olympics just a month and a few weeks away, Paris along with France is on a state of high alert. If that was not enough, President Macron has just announced a snap election to prove his majority.
Olympics, Elections, well, it would be pointless to say or warn people to not fart loudly lest they are arrested for terrorism. Nerves. Nerves. Raw and ready.
So when, some of the Romany who had been sitting calmly sipping coffee, tea etc outside the entrance of Hotel Dieu began yelling " Allah oh Akbar " things got bad and scary very quickly. The men who were screaming slogans against the government started throwing food items against the walls and glass doors of the hospital and this prompted every security man on the premises to rush towards the entrance.
A lot of calls were made and the police responded by surrounding the area in large numbers. The Romany fought back and struggled and most of them sustained slight injuries,
but eventually, they were all arrested and sent to jail. For a long time.
The incident which was a diversion unfolded over fifteen minutes before the Police brought everyone and everything into control and this was more than enough time that Tara and her men needed to enter the Hospital of God via a secret and long-forgotten tunnel from the River Seine.
She looked at the ancient architectural sketch that she had on her iPad and raising her LED torch flashed a powerful beam of white light into the tunnel and said, ' 400 Metres that way ' and looked at her team of killers, ' Follow my commands and don't break them or I will be forced to break every bone in your body.'
They were ten of them excluding Tara and all of them whispered that they would do exactly as told.
' You will or I will do exactly as I have just proclaimed. If everything goes well, I will double your payment.'
She looked at them and then growled, ' Follow me ' and began marching into the underground belly of the hospital.
A few moments later, it slowly crept up the ancient steps and entered the tunnel and claw by claw, talon by talon it followed Tara and her Gang of killers.
Malar asked softly, ' My Lord, will Dhana be safe? The poor child is all alone and on his own.
Azhagan smiled, ' My queen, there are several reasons why I requested Dhana to go to Paris on his own. But, I have also sent another to watch over his back.'
' Does it have anything to do with your conversation with Madhu, requesting her help?'
' Yes and no, my lady. Now the game is on and the pieces have been moved, it remains to be seen what she is going to do.'

Time is it that of more than that - 1
I am a practising Hindu and I use that word is spite of not being very comfortable with it. But then we go about life, doing things, saying things that we are uncomfortable with.
Hindu is not originally an Indian word. It is a word given by the Greeks, then the Persians, to refer to the land and peoples beyond the Indus (or Sindhu) River. Even the term Hinduism was first used by Raja Ram Mohan Roy in 1816–17. By the 1840s, the term "Hinduism" was used by those Indians who opposed British colonialism, and who wanted to distinguish themselves from Muslims and Christians.
Now that I have stated the need for using the much flogged common terms such as Hindu and Hinduism, I also have to state the selfish reasons behind my using them terms. The word, Hindu, makes my religious beliefs easy to convey to like-minded people and the world at large for you see we worship many Gods and Goddesses and it would be cumbersome to be constantly changing my beliefs and modes of worship that I use to reach out to God and Goddess.
I worship Lord Shiva and Shakti which immediately makes me both a Saivite and Shakta. Even though it has been drilled into me that Monday is for Shiva and Friday is for Amman, I worship them both almost everyday and when I feel the need. Then comes Tuesday that is meant both for Lord Muruga and Hanuman. The worship of Murugan or popularly known as Kumaran is called Kaumaram and it is a religion by itself.
Wednesday brings my favourite God and companion Lord Ganesha and the worshipping of him is called Ganapathyam. Thursday is for the Teacher, Mounaguru, Lord Dakshinamurthy and since Friday has been already mentioned, I jump to Saturday and Lord Vishnu aka Narayana aka Perumal whose worship makes one a Vaishnavite.
Lest we forget, the Sun, our almighty solo superstar whose worship is called Saura or Saurya, a religion by itself in which adherents worship the Sun god Surya as the Saguna Brahman.
I know its a bit confusing and that is why am in a roundabout way ( secretively) grateful for someone coining the word " Hindu, Hinduism " for I am that and more than just a " Saivite, Vaishnavite, Shaktam, Ganapathyam, Kaumaram and a Saura.
All this knowledge is borrowed and in the end it does not matter for I have been praying, worshipping all these Gods from the time the calcium hardened the soft, malleable toddler bones of my legs. I have been folding my hands in respect and praying to all of them known and unknown Gods and Goddesses from the time my palms were still pink, and tender and scarily from the time Maths and physics made their presence felt in my life.
Some will recognise themselves when I confess that I believe that the Gods who reside and preside in famous ancient temples have to invite you to come and see them and until then one, like me finds various and constant hurdles being placed between them and the need to see that particular God.
For several months now, Mr Arunachaleswarar had been whispering to me to get off my lazy old a.se and journey to his house to visit him. Well, I tried, failed miserably ( LAZINESS) and in fact tried telling him a tall story.
' Boss, I worship you every day through that photo that I purchased all those years ago. So, what is the big hurry, boss?'
Well, I fell asleep early on Tuesday night and there he was, whispering again and again.
So, tired of his bickerings, I succumbed to his pleas and decided that I would make the journey to him.
I left home at about 3.30 am the next day, a Wednesday and reached Tiruvannamalai at about 6.30 am and the goody, goody idiot that I am, went all the way to Ramanar Ashram and parking the car there took an auto ride back to the house of Big Boss himself.
I stood, stood in the queue with bent head and totally focussed on him, it and her and then when my time came, was pushed, sent my way and all I got was a fleeting glimpse of the hot one.
It was on my way back that the auto driver told me that it was pradosham and hence the large crowds and I went Oh, Oh!
“Pradosham” refers to the sacred time of sunset on the thirteenth lunar day, or “trayodasi tithi.” Trayodasi occurs twice each lunar month, once in the waxing phase and once in the waning phase of the moon, so Pradosha Puja is performed twice each month in the Temple. Pradosha time is to Pray Lord Shiva and invoke His Blessings. Praying in this time will free us from sins and givesMoksha (hence the name Pradosha).
Time. Pradosham time refers to the sacred time to worship lord Shiva. But is there a sacred time, a pradosham time in our lives. I guess not for none of us know when we are going to get f.cked and I mean that literally and by that I mean Good, bad, evil, and tragedy.
Nalla neram. Ketta neram. Good time. Bad time. Yaarukku.
Time. What is time anyway? Is it only measured by seconds, minutes, hours, days, years etc?
I wonder how God, my Lord Shiva counts time and calculates good and bad times. Does he have his own complicated wrist watch or is it all in that chip of his third eye?
