Hours later Jai woke up feeling well rested. He looked at the wall clock and noticed that he's been asleep for 10 long hours, another first. It was when he tried to get up that he got the biggest shock of his life. A woman was wrapped around him like a vine; her head in the crook of his neck, an arm under his head while she held him close with her other arm and had a leg between his. The morning events came flashing in his mind as he hastily hopped off the bed pushing Chhaya away from him. Fortunately Chhaya didn't wake up, she just frowned for a moment then pulled the comforter up-to her neck and cuddled a pillow close to her.
Jai slid down on the floor and covered his mouth with his hands, the shock over his own actions was so overwhelming that he felt weak at the knees. He rubbed his face rather harshly trying to find a reason behind his behaviour towards Chhaya. Unease settled in the pit of his stomach and he suddenly wanted to puke. Unaware of the storm of emotions raging inside Jai, Chhaya slept soundly.
Jai dragged himself out of the room and towards the bar and poured himself a glass of whiskey and drank it in one go. Not only was he surprised by his actions or you can call it affectionate actions towards Chhaya, he was also feeling quite guilty about it. For God's sake he had a fiance who was right now in Thailand shooting for a movie. He felt as if he was betraying Rhea but what made him feel disgusted was the fact that he didn't mind it at all, that he wasn't concerned about how this situation looks, as to how Rhea will react to this, no! The thought that was clawing his insides was that he wasn't even a bit bothered about how Rhea would feel about this situation.
He drank another glass of whiskey as he thought about Rhea. A beauty she is, a beauty with nice brain and a good heart and he, he was the beast whom she handled with love, care and deep seated affection. She loved him and kept him at the top of her priority list and he on the other hand did nothing for her. She was someone out of family whom he cared for, respected and made sure that she gets everything that she wanted but he felt himself unable to show her his vulnerable side, show her his love, forget that...he wasn't sure if he loved her or not. He trusted her for sure but was that enough?
He contemplated about what he felt for Chhaya and what he feels for Rhea and the difference between his feelings for the two women was huge and he felt ashamed about that. Instead of the woman whom had been with him through thick and thin he was showing his affections towards a woman whom he had met just hours ago. How in the world can one justify that?!
Finishing up his 3rd glass, Jai went upstairs to his art room where he kept all his paintings, sketches, clay sculptures and other stuff. This was a side of him that other than his doctor (also his brother's) whom he had consulted about his nightmares and his younger brother Vikram or as he liked to be called, Vicky knew about. No one else was aware about this artistic side of ruthless and shrewd businessman Jaidev Singh Raghuvanshi.
Jai looked around and picked up a blank canvas to work on. Without thinking of an image that he wanted to paint, Jai just let his hands work on their own accord. He didn't know what he was going to paint, he just knew one thing that he wanted to let something go. His hands automatically picked up bright colors like red, yellow, blue and orange. With mind as blank as the canvas in front of him, Jai started painting. For the next few hours Jai immersed himself completely in making the painting and as usual at the end he signed his name "jaidev using black paint.
It was when Jai was wiping paint off his hands using a wet rug that he noticed the painting he had made. Mostly covered in the shades of red, the painting that he had made was of Chhaya who he had painted in a saree with gold/yellow highlights, a lotus flower in her hand, few flowery details on the side, she looked like newly wedded bride.

Breathing heavily he staggered backwards feeling stunned at how detailed the painting look, how detailed Chhaya looked in the painting. The surroundings were covered in a red haze and even the image that he had painted of Chhaya was of red hue. The color red, the color of fire, blood, passion, desire, and love. Jai felt like pulling his hair for even thinking about it, how in the world can he fall for a woman whom he met hours back just like that? The woman in question was an absolute stranger who was suffering from some kind of trauma that made her delusional and think that he's her husband. There is no way he could or would fall in love with a woman like that. No. NO!
He felt angry at himself for not being able to control his emotions that were now all over the place. He felt chained, felt burdened and caged making his want to break something, roar out his anger and run off to someplace and hide. For the first time in his life, Jaidev Singh Raghuvanshi wanted to flee like a coward. Angered he picked up the painting to throw it, break it but one look at the person standing at the door of his art room and he placed the painting back on the stand.
"Dev.." there stood Chhaya now dressed in a plain white maxi style dress that showed off her long bare legs. She looked beautiful despite of the ridiculous dress and scratches all over her body. That thing combined with the anger towards the one responsible for his state gave birth to something animalistic inside him. Clenching his fists tightly to keep himself from doing the unthinkable, Jai just stood there as still as a statue that can breathe.
"Dev did you paint something?" Chhaya asked with a smile as she walked inside taking slow strides with her hands behind her back.
"Did you make another painting of mine?" an adorable blush crept up her cheeks but it did nothing to soothe the raging animal inside Jai. Did she really ask him if he had made a painting of hers? What is the ever loving bloody world?!
"Can I see? Oh why am I asking after all you only let me..." before she could say something Jai stepped towards her and held her wrist tightly as he dragged her out of the room and took her up on the terrace. Once there he pushed Chhaya away who fell on the floor and scraped a wound on her knee. "Ah! she moaned in pain as tears formed in her pretty eyes.
"What do you want?" Jai asked as he hovered over her.
"Dev.." she uttered shakily but it further angered Jai for a reason he didn't even know that made him take a threatening step towards her which resulted in her moving backwards.
"Why are you here?" he asked and moved towards her while she kept moving backwards. This happened till she reached an end point, the railing around the terrace, "Dev.." Chhaya was scared now, "Please stop. She cried.
The sight of her tears made Jai flinch as if someone had twisted his heart. Her red, puffy eyes and questing eyes made him take a step back and the tears that flowed down her cheeks made him feel as if someone had pulled his heart out of his body and smashed it under their feet. Feeling appalled about his sudden behaviour, wanting to make it alright again, comfort her, Jai pulled Chhaya towards him and hugged her tightly burying his head in her hair.
"I am sorry...I am so sorry.." he kept on chanting like a mantra. "I didn't know what came over me..I am just...sorry.." he mumbled.
Chhaya felt something wet on her shoulder, Jai was crying. She tried to pull back, question him about his behaviour but Jai didn't loosen his hold on her and kept hugging her with his face buried in her silky tresses as he inhaled and revelled in her sweet scent. Few minutes later he felt Chhaya's arms wrap around him comfortingly as she patted his back lightly, "Don't scare me Dev. Why did you do this?" he heard her ask.
"I am sorry." He repeated. The heartache he experienced on hurting her like that was too much more burdensome and suffocating that the fact that he was crying like a baby over a woman's shoulder was overlooked.
"Sshhh...baby it's okay. I am not angry with you, just promise me that you won't repeat this okay." Chhaya managed to pull back and cradle his face in her hands. Jai just nodded in response and felt himself calm as she smiled at him slowly.
Jai softly wiped the tears off her face and kissed her eyes first, then he placed a soft kiss on her forehead and then leaned in for something more. He lowered his head a little and kissed the corner of her mouth that made her gasp. Leaning back he looked at her soft features and parted lips and something uncontrollable took over his senses and leaned in again and this time captured her lips with his. There was nothing sweet and jittery about it, the kiss was in its most primal nature, harsh but satisfying, painful but so much pleasurable at the same time.
Jai wrapped her long hair around his hand and tugged her head sideways wanting more access to her mouth while her own hands went up in his hair and pulled him more close if it was even possible. Jai bit her lip hard and tasted the coppery taste of blood. He gave the cut a leisurely lick and then drove his tongue into her mouth ensuing a small battle of dominance; a battle of tongues and lips as they kissed as if there life depended on it while nothing else mattered.
