V Lakshmi
She's basking in the response she's been getting for her performance in Rajesh's Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (OKOK), but Hansika is someone who doesn't rest on her laurels. She's busy working with Simbu for Vettai Mannan, and will soon start working on the Tamil remake of Delhi Belly. CT caught up with her for a quick chat…
Everyone's raving about your performance…
I'm really glad that all the hard
work and
time we
put in for OKOK has been rewarded well. This is the first time in my career that I haven't heard a single negative review, either towards my or my co-stars' performances or the film on the whole. It feels great when people recognise your effort, and tell you what they honestly felt about the film.
Has criticism about your acting affected you?
I've been in the industry for a while now, and I've learnt to take everything in my stride. And thankfully, people have always complimented me on my expressions and performance. Many like the way I carry myself in .
How was it working with debutant hero Udhayanidhi?
When I do a film in a new language, I'm a debutante as well. Even well-known, established heroes are like newcomers for me! But having that said, I think Udhay is a great performer. He is a quick learner, and it doesn't take him time to read and remember his lines.
Is Meera similar to Hansika?
I couldn't relate to Meera at all! Probably the few instances when she develops a soft corner for Saravanan and accepts his friendship are when I could say to myself, 'there, I know this girl!' But otherwise, Meera is so rude and treats Saravanan badly. I'm definitely not like her.
Your line-up of films in Kollywood…
I'm wrapping up Vettai Mannan, in which I play a gangster. I had my doubts initially, playing this girl who doesn't smile, joke or laugh, and is forever holding a loaded gun. But, that's the challenge. On the first day of the shoot, I had to shoot a guy. I was pointing my pistol on someone, and I was also being held at gun-point. I literally had a blast shooting for it! I also have Singham 2 with Suriya, and the Tamil remake of Delhi Belly. I guess this year, I've been lucky enough to have signed on to play roles that are chalk and cheese!
