Divya in Vada Chennai?

Sunayana Suresh and V Lakshmi

While she may have debuted opposite Simbu in Kuthu, Divya Spandana got a new lease of life in K-Town with Vetrimaran's Polladhavan. The actress, who has been away from the Tamil screens after the dismal Singam Puli, might make her return to Kollywood in Vetrimaran's Vada Chennai.
Coincidentally, this film stars Simbu, Divya's first Tamil hero, apart from Tollywood hunk Rana Daggubati and Andrea Jeremiah. When contacted, Divya said, "I've had discussions with Vetri sir. He's the most well-read director I've come across and writes good roles for his artists. We are good friends and have worked on Polladhavan together. I hope things work out just fine so that I'll be part of Vada Chennai." The actress' Tamil flick Kadhal 2 Kalyanam is yet to hit screens.
Meanwhile, director Vetrimaran said, "We are in talks with Divya, but nothing has been finalized as of yet." Vada Chennai is said to show the less-glamorous side of the city and is said to be Vetrimaran's pet project. He had a workshop with some of the cast and crew earlier this week and the film is expected to kickstart shortly.

NO TAMIL FILM FOR RANA
RANA DAGGUBATI who was all set to work in his debut Tamil film, "Vada Chennai" has opted out of it. ''I feel sad that I had to opt out of "Vada Chennai", but the director wanted bulk dates through March. Unfortunately, my Telugu film, "Naa Ishtam", and Hindi film, "Department", were delayed due to many reasons, leaving me no option to prioritize them. I also just began shooting for a new Telugu film," he said. Meanwhile, director Vetri Mannan said, "Rana told us about 10 days ago that he'd be unable to be part of the film. He felt the role would not suit him and his career plans. So, we decided to part ways mutually.'' Sunanya Suresh and V Lakshmi

RANA OPTS OUT OF VETRI'S NEXT

The actor and director state different reasons for parting ways

Sunanyana Suresh and V Lakshmi

It wasn't long ago that actor Rana Daggubatti and director Vetri Maaran were talking excitedly about working together in Vada Chennai which also stars Simbu. Rana even attended a one-day workshop that was held for the film. But even before the movie could get going, there was a buzz that he had walked out of the project. So what was the cause of this volte face — was it his role, his co-star, a conflict of dates or more? CT gets you the real story…
RANA SPEAK
''I feel very sad that I had to opt out of Vada Chennai. I was very upbeat about signing it as it was my first Tamil film and I consider Tamil to be as much my native tongue as Telugu. I had to opt out because the director wanted bulk dates through March, when he would begin filming the portions of the character that I was supposed to play. Unfortunately, my Telugu film, Naa Ishtam, and Hindi film, Department, were delayed due to many reasons, leaving me no option but to put them on priority. I also just began shooting for a new Telugu film. This left me with few dates to accommodate a new film in the next six months. But, I would like to state that my Tamil debut is long overdue and I'm ensuring the next film I sign will be in Tamil. In fact, Vetri and I are looking at making a bi-lingual film. I also have a long-pending film with Selvaraghavan. 2012 will see me debut in Kollywood.''
VETRI REACTS
''Rana told us about 10 days ago that he'd be unable to be part of the film. I guess he had a different kind of expectation from his character in this film. He felt the role would not suit him and his career plans in Kollywood. He told me he was uncomfortable with a few things in his character sketch and so, we decided to part ways mutually. We're currently scouting for other actors to play that character and an official announcement will be made soon about it.''

HITTING THE RIGHT NOTE

V Lakshmi

Andrea is busy shooting with Kamal Haasan for Viswaroopam and going through her character sketch for Vetri Maaran's forthcoming film, Vada Chennai. But the actress says that it hasn't stopped her from pursuing her original passion ' singing. An excited Andrea reveals, "I try to do at least a couple of shows a month because I love being on stage. I will never stop singing, for films or otherwise. And I'm also working on my own compositions. I hope to have a studio collection that will be ready for release by July. I'm also working with talented musicians from the band Yodhakaa. We are trying to come up with new things that will work for out audience." Meanwhile, tell her that she happens to be one of the few Kollywood faces per se in Kamal's film and she laughs, saying, "That's true! When I'm on set, it doesn't feel like I'm doing a Tamil film at all! Someone forwarded my pictures to the executive producer of the film and I got a call from them while I was in London, doing a show, saying that Kamal sir wanted to meet me!"
