The over-the-top and exaggerated action of South movies is now a regular staple in Bollywood. Whether it was Wanted, Dabangg, Ready, Singham or Bodyguard — all the films that have had South-style combat have hit bull's-eye. And the latest actor to experiment with this trend is Neil Nitin Mukesh.
The versatile actor will be seen in a new avatar in Susi Ganeshan's Shortcut Romeo. A source says, "Neil has already begun shooting for Shortcut Romeo based on the Southern hit Thiruttu Payale. It is an outand-out commercial masala flick. He is kicked about it because the entire crew is from the South. Established names like action director Kanal Kannan (who recently did RA.One) and choreographer Kalyan, a big name down South, are associated with this project. Neil is very happy that with these guys on board, there is no time wasted on the sets."
While his contemporaries Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan have made a mark in romantic films, Neil has preferred to get into unchartered territory. He has always opted for unusual roles whether it was
Johnny Gaddar, New York, Lafangey Parindey or Saat Khoon Maaf. A unit hand says, "In Shortcut Romeo, too, Neil portrays a character that's completely out-of-the-box. It would be right to say that the character he portrays is that of a pucca ba***rd; a dog, who believes in shortcuts and does not like to work hard for anything. But at the same time he is not sleazy."
Neil refused to talk about the film saying, "I have just begun shooting for this venture and wouldn't like to reveal anything about my character. The only thing I can say is that it is a surprise. Wait
watch!"
