Preeto's dad a writer cum novelist who dosent have a steady job, works as a darwan in a restaurant in Jalandhar, to support and add to the family's income. Preeto sees her father's plight, once while in Jalandhar and gets upset by this. But she is consoled by Rajbeer that there is no dignity in labor and that she should feel proud of her father who inspite of his learned ways and age tries to earn, instead of sitting idle at home.

So the deal is Preet will not disclose this fact to anyone else at home and neither to her father.

in black: If I am not wrong, Preeto's father did find out today that Preeto knows about his work during a conversation between the two. Preeto consoles her father by saying that she is really proud of him and no matter what he does, he will always hold a special place in their hearts.

Another poster had the same question posted in yesterday's WU and I had responded over there without realizing that there is a thread explicitly open for this question. So, I am going to repost it here.

Preeto's father used to be a well respected Urdu teacher and for some reason the school/college decides not to have Urdu language classes offered anymore and her father Gagan is out of job since then. He has great interest/dream in writing a novel and publishing it but does not have the resources to make that dream come true. The entire family was surviving off of Preeto's income which was not sufficient and hence the father decides to take a job as a door man in a restaurant in jalandhar. He hides this truth from everyone thinking that it would make them feel bad for him doing such a menial job. Preeto visits a client who lives in Jalandhar and on her way back notices Gagan standing outside a restaurant as a door man and per Rajbeer's advice decides not to confront him as it would hurt his feelings. In yesterday's episode, there was a photo of Gagan standing outside the restaurant in the newspaper and he tries to hide the paper not wanting anyone to know his real job. Eventually, Preeto's mom comes across the picture and feels deeply distressed over inadvertently pushing her husband to take that job which she thinks is beneath his standards but later comes to terms over the fact that her husband is a good man who works hard to support his family regardless of the nature of the job. She tells Preeto that they should no longer hide the truth and be proud of Gagan for being a good husband and a great father. Hope this helps clear your confusion :)
