Like Pretty said, it is easy to say walk out, but an abuser starts first by overcoming the mind and the will power of the victim. Physical abuse only begins after the abuser has isolated the victim from friends and family. Then the abuser convinces the victim that he/she deserves the punishment that is coming to them.

Unless you've been there, it is very difficult to say what one would do in such a situation.

@ pink: I wholeheartedly agree as that is what I have observed and read about too...However, the thing is that Sona recognizes she is in a bad state and it seems she wants to get out of it. So the last part (abuser convincing victim that she is deserving of abuse) doesn't seem right.

The whole Sona is a very very needed topic because when people comment about how she could easily walk away it shows how even educated viewers on this forum are very naive. They just don't have a clue about what abuse looks like and how human beings respond to it.

I don't know, maybe it's either from watching too many shows where rape and abuse is done by out and out evil characters that it seems very evident who the bad guy is but when it's a loved one like a husband things just become grey. You have the good times and the bad times and when they're kids involved things become very convoluted. And it's so easy to get manipulated because an emotional abuser usually cuts away all your support system and family to the point where you become emotionally dependent on the abuser and can't see that the behaviour is wrong. He loves you and he can take that love away from you and that's the scariest feeling in the world. Women especially can lose their self esteem with the speed of light. You tell a woman 'honey, don't wear that dress, you look a bit chubby in it' every single day in one form or the other and you can make anyone feel worthless and not worth saving. Same with physical abuse. A guy pushes his wife and comes back the next day with flowers and tells her he was stressed out at work and she buys that excuse and the next time he pushes her harder and blames it on alcohol. Eventually things just become routine and women forget that being pushed or slapped is not normal behaviour at all..

Today they showed Sona looking happy when her husband mentions the anniversary. Any girl would think it was a romantic gesture and she buys the whole routine and falls into that trap again. So abusers can be charming, persuasive AND good looking. Don't forget that.
