Santhi, loved what you have written,
and I too have a lot of apprehensions about where they are taking the character of Saras?

The character graph of Saras has been developed well per se but of late the CVs have lost the

complete essence of Saraswatichandra the man.

It's not about whether he should lighten up and have fun or not

Of course he should, an ecstatic and deewana Saras is very much spot on.

But, having said that, each character also has a framework within which it will also operate

So a deewana Saras who sneaks her out for a midnight date,

or dashes to a place 2 hours away to get

his mothers saree converted to a chaniya choli,

or practices dance moves all night so that no one else dances with his Kumud,

a Saras who sneaks into her room because she must be cold and would need coffee -

adorable, and relatable to the character sketch drawn for Saras

But a Saras who dresses up as a garish kartar Singh and

creates public embarrassment for her and himself?

Even in his most ecstatic moments Saras wouldn't,

He maybe childlike in love, but not childish

Lightened up, but not silly

It just doesn't add up

And now this haldi thing - remember the Saras that was

All the western upbringing, easy access to money and a fast life

Didn't even touch him, a lonely child who could have become anything,

Turned spiritual and ascetic

This then was the core of Saraswatichandra

Spirituality, decency, dignity, respect and restraint

Even a fun Saraswatichandra would then operate within these parameters

NOT as kartar Singh eve teasing Kumud in a market place

And NOT as Saras Mausi or whoever he is becoming.

This is just shoddy writing. Poor imagination and piggy backing

on the talent and popularity of Gautam Rode

They have not developed any parallel comic character,

So comedy also now poor Saras has to provide

Remember the bhajan ki CD Radha track - it was funny, cute

and we had sunny to bring in the comic relief

Without compromising on Saras's character .

Now the cvs have not brought in any new character

No relatives friends coming in for the wedding

Gyanchatur, Chandrika, Sunny all lay forgotten

Danny and yash have been turned serious and goody two shoes

Bewakoofi karne ke liye bacha kaun

One in number mr Gautam rode , all in one package hai

Sab kuch badhiya karta hai, karne do!

Consistency and character - babaji ka thullu

And with that ladies and gentlemen I rest my case

And stop my rant till the next time mr rode is asked to do some other stupid antic

By the oh so brilliant writers ! ! !

Well said Arshi. All this has to happen in the bigger framework of his character. And it isn't. Saras knows where to draw the line. He would never dress up like that and sneak in.

He might get serious when ln comes back but still I am ready to follow ur advice and have thoroughly lowered my expectations on how the character of saras will be dealt with.

I have serious doubts about the old Saras ever coming back

This cross dressing sardar is not going away, abhi aur horrors unleash hone baki hain

I cannot imagine things getting much worse than this...Arshi I hope something gives. Maybe we'll get yet another set of writers next... in the merry go round... Maybe Utkarsh Naithani will come back...

I really hope so happy, because this lot is the pits, they have no idea of the roots of this show and have tampered with everything.

Ratnanagri is now a town in panjab and the hero is kartar Singh

Santhi, I just came back here to comment on your original post.
Well-said, and what a labour of love...😊

Really I dont think us Saras fans have much to look forward to as this crop of writers dont know much about him. I remember GR saying in some iv that once an actor has gotten into the character, he/she should know more about the character than even the writers. Considering he had gotten into the role so well, I am sure he sure he must be missing Saras almost as much as us, if not even more... 😔

My keen appreciation of Saras is partly due to my having a Saras-type person in my life. And all I can say is that when Saras loosened up, he would probably feel OK making a fool of himself in front of Kumud, but never ever ever in public, a la Kartar, or this latest haldi avatar. This is daylight murder of a much-loved character by a bunch of irresponsible people (PH, writers, director, whoever).

Happy ji, you have a saras like person in your life? 😊
I would say television is a writer's medium more than any other. So, writers need to know the character best. Including all the nuances. While Gautam was being conscious and proactive actor by saying that, its of no use. As writer controls the strings. Like what is happening now.
I totally agree. He would drop guard in front of kumud but not in front of others. He would not make a mockery of rituals and traditions even though he right now believes they are just symbolic. He would respect them. He would not cross the line. Repeatedly.

@happychappy,
Oh so nice to have 'Saras type of person' in your life. Any girl will die to have someone like Saras. You are lucky and be blessed 😊

Very well written especially about decency, respect and dignity aspects associated with the character. So the problem here is not S turning into KS per se. It's the crass and mannerless display of affection in public which made the whole scene abhorrent and shocking. This has got nothing to do with whether a person is an extrovert or introvert inherently by birth, but a serious case of maintaining decorum in public. Not a big believer in social etiquette myself, KS went seemingly way overboard even for me. I didn't like Kumud's 'response' too, but that's for another day.

The writers' craft is pretty much deficient when it comes to adding layers to a character is what I've learnt from watching this show. In order to establish/ demonstrate his spirituality, they made him make a comical entry to his dad's b'day party with the prashad in hand, skimpily dressed despite knowing the dress code of the occasion. Even more comical way to 're-establish' his spirituality: how skilled is SC as a soothsayer, having learned the Science of Astrology for 5 years. *Facepalm*

This new 'incognito' drama during haldi ceremony, is it some sort of an Indian TV trope? That's what I could gather from many comments I read elsewhere.😕

@Shanti ji: Saras has always been flirtatious around Kumud, in fact ever since he landed at RN. It's not something new that he learnt after he went to Devpur😆

If this continues the title should be changed to Gautam Rode. I once remember Guniyal saying in an offscreen masti, I will give my daughter to saraswatichandra, not Gautam Rode.
SLBs Saraswatichandra was the best and I hope the cvs read our coments and come back to earth and revert to a sane script.
