Kumud and Kusum are both flawed characters. But Kumud should really be able to step outside of her position as a sister and think of what Kusum has asked her to do.
Kumud looked after Pramad even when he had his own parents. She looked after Kusum in spite of their parents being around. But just because she put Saras in an awkward position instead of allowing him the freedom to have his own life, now Danny has gone off and left him alone. Not only that, but Kumud is now refusing to stand by him when he has always stood by her. He could have taken off with Danny before the wedding and just left Kumud high and dry.
Danny could have a thousand girls better looking and more thoughtful than Kumud's idiot sister. So could Saras. These people saved the haveli from ruin by a jilted suitor and what they got in return is blame and judgment.
As for Kusum, she is so thoughtless she had the nerve to tell Danny on his face that she loved his brother. How would she feel if Saras did the same to her? The girl has no heart.
Kusum was ready to be a spinster for life if Kumud had to come back home, and when she did come back she changed her tune. Deciding that "destiny" was for her and Saras. If that was true then why has Saras never confessed to feeling anything for Kusum? Just like the rose and the peacock feather were a misunderstanding, she can't make herself understand that the play and the kidnapping were also a misunderstanding. Saras and Kumud have always survived whatever obstacles were in their path. Kusum is only claiming that destiny is in her favor because she wishes it was true, not because it is.
As for her imagining Saras as her husband, he has never once imagined the same for her.
