One of my fav Hindi stories is a story called Haar ki Jeet.
The story is of a saint called Baba Bharti, whose only possession was a horse named Sultan that he really loved and cared for. Daku Khadag Singh had been eying that horse but baba Bharti would never let his horse out of his sight, and refused to sell it.So Khadag Singh, one day disguised himself as a sick and lame person, and requested Baba Bharti to drop him to the nearby village. And as Baba Bharti was trying to help him, Khadag Singh captured the horse. Baba Bharti was naturally devastated, but asked for only thing in returnHe said iss ghatana ka zikr kabhi kiisi se na karna, varna logon ka din dukhiyon se vishvas uth jayega, aur koi unki madad nahi karega!Of course in the real story, khadag Singh was so touched by Baba Bhartis selflessness, that he returned Sultan. Why this story here?Just that, next time Star Plus talks about quality programs, and presenting great literary pieces, I for one, will not really expect much.I think, the common interest lies in meaningless drama that refuses to rise above nauseating kitchen politics and inane romance, and that is all Indian Tele is capable of delivering. There is no will to break this mould and rise above the kitsch that is termed daily serial. And to blame the viewers for this is grossly unfairThere are many like us, who would love to see good quality software, would really really appreciate our rich Indian literature to be brought to fore through this great visual mediumBut the makers choose to take the easy way out, and pander to bottom line, instead of taking risks. And honestly, our great masters are better off untouched by TV producers and channels!Long post I know, I try to stay upbeat in CB, but haar ki jeet has been haunting me for the last few days, because SC is slowly becoming Jeet ki Haar!
