Arshi, I have mixed feelings about your CB for tonight. Have to confess I cant stand that Salma Agha song! 😳 It gets on my nerves, just like Kumud's new "saas"! 😕 And that bawarchi character!🥱

I agree that they have made a Bali ki bakra of Kumud, and you've captured that perfectly in the cadence of your words, with that refrain as an icing on the cake! However, that bit about Kumud's first cooking in her sasuraal going to Saras- that's the sweetest byte of all...👏 Thank God and the CV's for the Smallest Mercies!

All very nice, ... as long as Kumud doesnt actually become a bakra! Like they say on packing cartons: CV's- Handle our Kumud With Care. Do not turn her Character upside down. Beware, or your Audience will Vanish. Into Thin Air.

Coming to didi dear, she looks to be the most interesting of the lot. Great casting again, by SLB! The number of times Saras actually calls out for Kumud, I have this suspicion that Smart Didi may have already got an inkling of something afoot...Even Kumud seemed to have the "ehsaas" at a sub-conscious level? that the injured man may actually be Saras...

I was disappointed with that continuity fault- the first shot of Saras in BD's mansion today showed one room, and the second half of the episode showed him in a Completely Different Room, different bed and everything. Perhaps they move their ailing "guest" between the many guest rooms they have in their palace!

All in all an interesting, but unexciting episode. I grieve for the old sets which I suppose we will see less and less of...the new setting is a lot less photogenic than VC's haveli. I just realised how much of the charm of watching the show came from the haveli setting. BD's mansion looks like any old serial set. 🥱

I suspect when that call from Sunny finally comes through,... that's when the Desais will have their largest helping of heartbreak!!!

Continuity fault, plus logic ki vaat - why hasn't Sunny raised an alert on missing Saras yet, LN has no concern for Saras at all, Danny has not news of wedding not happening

But it was more about meet the BD family today, so the maa beta vs baap beti team came out well, characters are pretty much established except the didi whose stand vis a vis Kumud is not very clear

Saas was as clueless as her cook, ram milai Jodi!

@Sunny calling Saras- Just wanted to say that Sunny did call Saras when he reached ratnanagiri. Saras said he will cal back later. And didn't it all happen in only one night? SIL did say you were unconscious for 12 hrs.

Too early to raise the alarm on Saras missing don't you think?

Scenario from the perspective of Sunny: :

1. Stayed at the brides house for a long time

2. Knows everyone there very well - kusum, Kumari etc

3. Best friend gone to manaofy bride and family after breaking off

4. Best friend in not right frame of mind

5. Best friend was supposed to call back

6. Would you or I wait for 12 hours to know what happened?

Lets take Danny's perspective:

1. Left just a couple of days before the wedding

2. Could not come for the wedding????( logic ki vaat)

3. Does not even call to talk to bhai, mom, dad, Kumud ji - to wish, congratulate, check

12 hours too much to not call in case of wedding of brother/ best friend , IMO

arshi..

...the challenge now for CVs is to manage 3 tracks...Samud at her inlaws, Desais & LN...with the scale (number of characters, tracks) and complexity (contexts, situations, character interactions & their impacts taking the story forward) increasing as the story moves ahead...

I guess they will try to do this as much as in parallel as possible...but would be difficult to manage it all the time..because if they give us small bits for each of the above the impact is lost... so I guess they will prioritize...

for e.g. maybe the CVs had a lot to squeeze in 20 minutes of last epi...condition of kumud's new relationship, saras condition, introduction of new characters / context, follow-up on saras - kumud ehsaas...

In all this, they did try to put in the Desai's household coming to terms with kumud's absence...

Plus, the moment Sunny or Danny come to know about what happened, the logical extension has to be a separate track where LN / Gumaan rift possibly happens..

So maybe it might be covered today...it is after all just the next day in the story...though it feels as if entire worlds have shifted...

The task for us viewers will now be to move away from viewing it as a linear narrative with each scene and epi moving forward with respect to time ...and think of each of the 3 tracks as sometimes happening in parallel but at the same instance in time and at different locations...And maybe 2 - 3 epis covering the same instance in time..for e.g. today's epi is again the same day as yesterday's..i guess we will see the canned sunrise scene every 2-3 epis instead of 1 and sometimes 2 times per epi which we used see earlier.. 😊

But yes...will be interesting to see how effectively this is managed by the CVs ...

Arshi, a special mention to your CB today... It was so in sync with the episode... The first bit totally encapsulated the essence of Kumud's in-laws... I read it and was like, what happened to Arshi? Then I watched the episode and found out just how on the mark you were with your broken lines... Because as I said before, gone is the subtlety, grace and charm, the Dhan's opulence is somewhat indecent... Pedestrian even, nothing separating them from the other rich families... But with the Saras-Kumud bit, your broken lines became beautiful once more. Because in that mansion, the only thing beautiful and pure is Saras and Kumud, and the ehsaas that connects them irrespective of relation, resolutions and... so Huge props to you... For imparting the feel, and mood of the episode! 😳

So today was all about "environment" setting, as you said, highlighting the dynamics - spelling out the "parties", so to speak... I mind-wrote a few equations while watching and will share it with you:

Kanika - Pramad - Mother-in-law
Father-in-law - (Kumud?) - Alak
Kusum - Vidyachatur
Dugba - Kumari

Before moving ahead, a footnote: happychappy made a v insightful post in the last CB regarding Dugba - Kumud - Saras - Kumari... and how Dugba and Kumari have ultimately let the two lovers down... That this mother-daughter duo were the pawns of destiny... highlighting their "roles in the tragedy" (awesome turn of phrase!)... But keeping Saras aside for a while, the Dugba - Kumari convo today underscored the fact that Kumud was the tie that binded them, and now that she is not there, both still are holding on to Kumud to move forward with each other... V poignant, I thought... Love for Kumud binds them and love for Kumud, depending on how the Creatives play this, will also be the catalyst that will drive them apart.

Back to the epi... "Ehsaas" again reared its head today... As smrth so beautifully elaborated in the previous CB, this element has become "integral" to the Saras-Kumud equation, more so from Kumud's side. Perhaps because she went to such great lengths to bury it six feet under, short of actually taking a shovel to it... Also the "marriage" motif is further fleshed out... Both Pramad and Kumud are fulfilling their previous "marriages"... How so? Kumud making food for her husband "Saras", the first thing she makes in her in-laws household & Kanika by presenting chaii to Pramad, a, if I'm not mistaken, morning-after ritual for the newly-married. By this, one can take in some manner that both Pramad and Kumud are already wedded, and to other people. So what will happen of their "marriage"... Appears to be a wait-and-see game...

Referring back to smrth... He raised the issue of Kumud's conscience... That brings us to the MIL and Kumud interaction... Seems mommy dearest is suffering from a severe case of maternal blindness! She knows her son, but her hope knows no limits... And she has very expectantly transferred this burden she brought into the world onto Kumud's already over-wrought shoulders... I find it hard to believe that she is unaware Kanika is already quite ably taking on the load... I don't take the MIL to be an "ally" in the future... She might not turn against Kumud either... But she will definitely hold Kumud back... With all her expectations and hopes... If the values instilled in Kumud will light the fires of her conscience... MIL's talks and aspirations for a better son will make sure that those fires will keep burning. MIL will be the fuel to Kumud's stronghold conscience.

The FIL... I just cannot warm up to this guy... He is too sinister looking to be guilelessly nice. So I'd be dissapointed if he does not come with an agenda (personal opinion!)... Point is, the in-laws are a cagey lot and I wouldn't dare take 'em at face value. The hardest to read currently is the SIL... That poker-face is admirable and infuriating at the same moment... She's married and I wouldn't want her to fall for Saras... That'd be one unholy mess... But those kinds of messes also bring in the TRP's I hear... So have steeled myself for any and everything. Except HDDCS. That's where I draw the line.

Bottom line: There'll be powerplays for sure, but they'll be the powerplays of destiny... Now that all the pawns have been stationed at their rightful places... Some entirely unaware, like Saras, in the truest sense of the word, at what they have been walked into... Sigh! Good intentions, are sometimes the worst... Oh and Jennifer was looking v pretty... like a christmas tree (sorry, honest first impressions here 😳)... I miss Kumud, and never thought I'd say it, but I'm missing her ghagra's 🤔

p.s. I absolutely adore the way the "ehsaas" scenes are enacted... Especially by Jenny lately, so subtle and impactful... Relying completely on nuance. And made even more heartbreaking by the beautiful, affective background music... Classy, to say the least! Totally tugs at the heartstrings...

Iviewer...

What can I say?... 👍🏼👏

Your perspective has uplifted my perception of this epi from a mundane to something much deeper...

Today will pass by much better for me now!

Wonderful analysis...especially
- saras - kumud
- the post-marriage settings of saras-kumud, pramad-kanika.
- the MIL - Kumud relation going forward...looks like MIL will the stumbling block for Kumud...also FIL & SIL still seem to be assessing kumud and whether she has what it takes...if MIL openly sides with kumud initially, then kumud will be more hamstrung & duty bound by her conscience...

I completely agree with you on kumud's attire...miss her ghagras...now she looks all matriarchal and grown up...gone is the joie de vivre effect the ghagras used to give...her current dresses reflect the somberness of her condition..

Thank you Iviewer for making sense of my broken lines - I love your description of my writing - broken lines makes it sound like a literary style and not just a flow of thoughts and feelings!

Actually CB is just a mind dump of thoughts and feelings and emotions that cross my mind as I watch it, and so the coherence of CB is directly proportional to that of the episode

Actual emergence of logic, patterns, subtexts most of the time happens afterwards, when we are challenged and spurred on by each others ideas and thoughts into discussions.

Thanks for reminding me of the highlights of prev CB discussions,

Kumari Dugba - I am actually looking at Kumud's marriage as a positive in this and kusum VC bonding, where these two neglected daughters will finally get due attention.

And yes, their own messed up love lives have been the chief cause of Saras Kumud separation, and they may never realize that, but Kumari Danny connect and Dugba's pledge to fight even divine powers to protect her Kumud makes me feel that these two will be strong allies for Kumud and Saras in the days to come.

3 factors are likely to play a role in Kumud's actions here on

1. She is as hgg said an alpha female - a fixer and a savior so will try to fix this

2. Her conscious as smrth said - she has to prove her commitment to this relationship - to herself, her parents and her in laws, so will invest all in this relationship

3. There's nowhere else to go- she has literally and figuratively burned her past and believes there is no turning back

Plus the emo blackmail of MIL, as you pointed out, the usual constraints of samaj and izzat that will also seal her lips to the reality of her sham marriage.

But to see her take abuse - I hope not, behind closed doors I hope pramaad sees that she is no doormat

Her sarees - again back to the end of innocence thought , also the shift from honest simplicity of Desais to artificial world of BD , where Kumud does what she ought , not what she wants

So the shift from lehenga to saree.

And of course in private Kumud and pramaad continue with their resp affairs unintentionally or intentionally, so her first meal goes to Saras, and his morning after pyaala of chai from kanika!

Loved your post!

Thanks Hgg 😳... Reagrding the SIL and FIL towards Kumud... BINGO! That's what I was missing... Baap-Beti are still hedging their bets... While MIL is actually being v clever with her moves...

@Bold Very insightfully put, my friend... And yes, she is not our Kumud no more, she has been forced to grow up overnight and that is what's so hard to get used to... But her new identity has come across most clearly in the process... She was a Desai, with dreams of becoming a Vyas, but ended up becoming a "Dhan Dharmadhikari"... Matriarchial is the perfect word to describe her 👍🏼... But for me it works, because the Kumud we know and love still peeks out when the ehsaas motif plays... Her features get all soft (fantastic emoting by J on this!)... Takes one back to the golden days in the Desai haveli... And that somehow makes those little peek-a-boo games all the more precious. The transformation, hence, I have to admit, though not welcome, is nonetheless used to great impact here.
