The movie Dushman was released in 1971 starring Rajesh Khanna and Meena Kumari
The storyline was:
Rajesh Khanna plays a truck driver, crass and uncouth
One night, while driving, he was drunk and killed a man in a road accident
He was caught but was unrepentant
The man was a poor farmer and the sole provider, he left a widow, small child, and dependent family
Rajesh Khanna as the truck driver felt no remorse,
He had no skills for anything else except truck driving
He had minimal education, no money, as would simply drink away all he earned as a truck driver
So, in order to teach him a lesson, and to ensure that he provides for the family,
The judge sentenced him to living in the farmers house for a period of two years or so, and provide for them financially
He hated it, and also faced a lot of resentment from the villagers and the villagers family
His widow ESP could not tolerate her husbands hatyara, being made responsible for her and her family, and refused to take his help
But he was legally forced to do it
In the village, he learned his lessons in humanity and sensitivity
Won hearts one at a time, set a few wrongs right, met his girl - mumtaz
And finally in the end earned the forgiveness of the widow
Needless to say he continued to stay on in the village
