Although the starting episode may look like Nandini to you if you read novel, Kumud is a strong character. Yes she is married off to a womaniser etc but she stays loyal to husband and family till end and refuses to marry SC even after their parents are fine because she thinks once she is married to a man she remains his for life. And mind you, this novel was written in 19th century where widows never remarried and 2nd marriage for girls was stigma. I am not sure how they will end this serial.
Coming to show this serial has started slowly but its surely picking pace and it takes time for audience to get emotionally attached to a serial character. Here i think if Saras childhood was shown we would have sympathy for him and taken his rejection of Kumud meaningly. Now we do not know what pain SC has faced from childhood what pain his real mom has faced in childhood and hence we are not able to connect instantly to SC character or his rejection. But lets give serial sometime so that all our questions are answered.
Regarding cast i think all are doing a good job especially SC, his father, kumud, her father are all excellent. But somewhere i am unable to connect with Kumud's nature she acts modern in some scenes like when she challenged SC to come and reject her on face, but at night is taking a lamp to see how he looks. Isn't she hurt then she should remain hurt till SC wins her heart by some act not go to see him at night first day itself. Then her character would be consistent.

Only their look is similar since both characters are from Gujrat.. BTW this novel was written and idea of Kumud's character was conceptualised way before HDDCS which was again based on a Gujrati novel. So if anything, its Nandini of HDDCS who is similar to Kumud..Moreover, its not like he picked scenes from some1 else's movie.. These days a lot of scenes in daily soaps are lifted as it is from movie.. Atleast SLB is not doing that😳

Ah, Vaishali, its soo good to see you here! 🤗

@Bold, who knows that better than us? Its bound to be similar because like you said both the characters are from Gujarat and its been written way before Nandani. If anything I think Nandani was a copy of Kumud, a little to childish., though.

Dude you have given wayyy too much info! I was keeping away from the novel because I wanted the surprise element. Could you please add a disclaimer that it contains spoilers? Pretty please??

Good to see you too! 🤗 I personally think that this show is being scrutinised way too much by the fans (on IF)..not sure about the TRP audience..Maybe because its an SLB show and a lot of hype has been created around it..Talking about similarities, which current or past love story shown on television doesnt look similar to some old one? In that respect SC is very different..atleast on TV we have not seen anything like this..

IF has way too many holier- than -thou members, so really this was expected.
True we have really not seen something like this, at least not on television.

The good part is that SLB never does anything, just for the sake of doing it. It may be larger than life but its still plausible. I cannot wait for it to move forward.

i believe you think that Sanjay Bansali, is spending 16 hours of each day directing Saraswatichandra. SLB is producing the show, and of course it will have touches that are signiture SLB. he must be spending a lot of time on the creative aspects of the show, but i realy doubt that he is directing each episode.
besides this i a TV show, and things will move at a slower pace. the sets may not be as big and grandious as his movies are. but for a TV show its got some of the bests sets ever. the cinimatography, and costumes are beautiful, i love the background score, cant get it out of my head
and Gautham and jenny are absolutely beautiful, a very handsome pair. though there have not been any scenes of them together.
and as of comparing them to the characters of Nandini or Davdas i think your wrong.
initialy one might compare Kumud to Nandini, but as you get to know Kumud you realise that she in not like Nandini at all. she is not that protected, Kumud is strong and opiniated. she is bold. Nandini was playfull and had a very secure enviroment she saw the world with rose tinted glasses.
Kumud is a realiest, and practical person. she is strong and grounded, like any girl she dreams of prince charming, and she is hurt he broke her heart without even knowing her. but she is willing to put it behind her and give up the dream if necessary.
Saras is intense, he does not see eye to eye with his father. yet his values do not let him to outright diffi him to his face. Saras is sensetive, and aware of the pain others feel. he realises that his actions have caused pain to others, and he tries to rectify them in his own way. unlike Davdas, who simply could not get over his own pain.
i like this show and i fall in love with it everyday.

The only reason people are comparing this show to the movies is because SLB made both, this is not fair, I mean if somebody else made it nobody would have made similarities. SLB does have small details he repeats in all if his work, but that doesn't mean everything is a ditto copy of each other. Saraswatichandra and kumud are different to all the characters in his movies. Yes kumud is Gujarati and wears similar clothes to nandini but nandini acted like a 5 year old, she had no idea about the real world was and thought she could get pregnant from a kiss! Kumud is so confident and she is realistic, as soon as saras rejected her she not only rejected him back but even challenged him.
Now onto saras, he is not like salman in hddcs at all, salman was like a clown in the movie and saras is more quiet and reserved. And devdas was serious but he was also disrespectful and didn't care about anyone's feelings when he did something. Saras is respectful, I mean he wants to say no to kumuds dad but it is taking him such a long time because he is feeling so bad. He is also really sensitive.

Now into the show, there has never been a show with such beautiful sets, wonderful cinematography and an amazing cast. And there are such fantastic dialogues and dialogue delivery from the cast. Not to forget he great chemistry and relationships the cast have, may that be between kumud and her dad, kumud and saras or saras and sunny. People's expectations are so high that is why they are being over critical.

Word ! :) Every film maker has a signature style that reflects in their movies and when they come down to showing something as grand as SC on television, it is bound to reflect in it too. I look at TV shows across all channels and most of them look same to me.. Gaudy make up and costume, similar premises for romance ,either small town girl meets rich guy or vice versa even the sets look similar.. SC is very different in that regard. The effort they have put in styling, costumes, set designing and other creative aspects is praiseworthy.. the music is the best I have heard in any TV show..Coming to the track, I think one of the plus points of this show has been the pace.. they did not drag anything unnecessarily though they had many opportunities where they could drag.. I hardly realise when and how the 20 minutes go..and each episodes ends with an anticipation of what's gonna happen next..Despite of the fact that the plot is known to many, they have kept the curiosity alive..

Regarding the character similarities, everything has been said very aptly in the above post ..No Kumud is not Nandini and Saras is not Devdas.. About the query whether Mr Bhansali is directing the show or not..he is not..he is the producer but he is very much involved in the making. He finalises the script and monitors occassionally. This is his show. He hired the whole creative team and actors so he wil not compromise on quality..
