friends am sharing a article i liked
serials r failing big time and bidaai was ended unfairly before its time...
I hope Star plus can bring back Bidaaii which ended at no 1 position with good turnout from the post leap characters
My request to Rajan ji and Star plus to continue from where they left of since the viewers would love to see the story moving forward.
ahead with ragini after a void of 8 years..
The risk they took with post leap seemed to have given a boost for the show and no show ends too be axed at no 1 position.
here is article

Not very long ago, the average shelf-life of daily soaps was at least a couple of years if not more, though a few like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kasautii Zindagii Kay went on for six to eight years. Currently, except Balika Vadhu, Na Aana Iss Des Laado, Uttaran, Pavitra Rishta, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Pratigya, Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma, Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, Sasural Genda Phool, Saath Nibhana Saathiya and late bloomer Ram Milaayi Jodi, no other show has been able to complete even one year. In the last six months, as many as 11 dailies ' Gunahon Ka Devta, Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna, Kismat, Aarakshan, Mera Naam Karegi Roshan, Sanjog Se Bani Sangini, Toh Baat Hamari Pakki,Chand Chupa Badal Mein, Pyar Mein Twist, Geeta Ka Dharamyudh and Maati Ki Banno ' have shut shop within four to nine months. While the shows that are on air for more than one to two years are still driving prime-time viewership, the series that were retired were TRP laggards. In the coming months, a few more serials currently struggling for ratings may also be axed.
Ten shows going off-air in six months is uncommon in general entertainment television. What could be the reason for such a high rate of failure while the older shows are still going strong? While Star India's COO Sanjay Gupta feels that the shows that shut shop early either didn't connect well with viewers or lacked potential to grow, Zee's head of marketing Akash Chawla says that there could be different reasons for different shows. "But the prime reason is they must have failed to resonate with viewers," he adds. Chawla admits that shutting a series is not an easy call to take because of the kind of planning and investment that goes into launching it. "But it's better to shut a serial that doesn't bring in returns rather than bleed," he feels. However, producers are of the view that while competition is making things difficult for new shows, channels are also getting increasingly impatient. "Thanks to competition, new shows need longer time to grow. But unlike earlier, channels seem to be low on patience and want instant result. Constant comparison with rival shows in same time slot makes channels jittery about losing on eyeballs. So you have no choice but to deliver within a short period or get out," rues producer J D Majethia of Mera Naam Karegi Roshan. Pyar Mein Twist's producer Asit Modi is of the opinion that viewers are not sampling new shows because of strong loyalties to old series. "While lack of good content could be one reason, loyalty to old shows and the channel's commercial compulsions is affecting the success rate of new shows," he feels. Producer-director Ravindra Gautam of Aarakshan doesn't think content is an issue. "It's just that some shows fail to connect with the audience," he adds. Majethia agrees, "There is no co-relation between ratings and quality (good content). All the shows that are getting good ratings can't be called good." He further observes that more than content, loyalty is a major issue. "Look at all the hit shows. There is no consistency in their ratings. The show that's number one today goes down to number three the next week. New shows need lot more consistent eyeballs over a longer period, for numbers to come in," he elaborates. In Gautam's opinion, what's making life difficult for shows is experimentation in stories besides too many shows getting launched within a short span. Another reason could be the fragmentation in viewing pattern in family units. "Different age groups within a family are watching different channels and genres," points out veteran TV director and ex-channel programmer Sanjay Upadhyay. However, according to Upadhyay, the key reason for higher rate of failure is lack of faith and freedom for writers. "There is absolutely no faith in writers. Channel creative teams think that they have the final word though their creativity mainly comes from relying on hit Hindi films for inspiration and reference. As a result, all original ideas and characterisations are reduced to stereotypes."

Upadhyay gives two examples to illustrate his point. "Take the case of Balika Vadhu. The show is successful because its writer not only has an insight into the subject but has also been given freedom to develop and explore its full potential. Similarly, what has worked for Sasural Genda Phool is Ravi Ojha's creative conviction that wouldn't have been possible without the channel's support," he elaborates. But if the success rate has come down to just about 15 per cent, does it mean fiction shows are heading for shorter life? Gautam admits life is getting shorter by the day. "We are definitely heading towards shorter and tighter stories," he agrees. However, Upadhyay feels it's happening by default. "Shows are planned for at least a year. If they are successful then they are stretched to a few years more. But failure means sure death," he adds. It means a big financial set- back for producers as well.

Now seeing Balika Vadhu crossing 3 years.. and still going strong... I wished Bidaaii had continued,They can do wonders with the present cast of Apurva and Parul and the rest of th post leap team with a refreshing storyline while many shows don't seem to click with audences..
'it may not be purely realted to Bidaaii and its not mentioned here but wanted to share my views

Interesting Article Sammy...

I can relate it a lot to a show which took a risk and got new characters and had to be axed inspite of doing well..

Abhi TRP's ko guru manogay tho its total unfair for Bidaaii as post leap worked..
Now if BV makes 1000 episodes and still being appreciated by audiences in the long run tho what can I say ..

One thing I am glad that Post leap did work for bidaaii inspite of having an actor who got enough of bashing for his goodwork

My hope is agar Old is gold u take , abd if SP and Rajan ji could have atleast continued Bidaaii atleast making room for a beautiful anmol ragini story then it wud have been great, but yes my hope is it see them back with a continuation from where they left of as its the most feasible way with the cast of post leap

Frankl speaking Sammy I look for quality. even when Apu entered Bidaaii I was least bothered abt TRP's, unfortunately people here in this forum kept bashing post leap sayig see its falling it will never get a good TRP and made a sour taste for me ..

But this sour taste proved good for the show since after the show had its ups and downs even during the post leap since many tracks were not getting toi viwers attention, but the weeks which caught up had good focus on a character which the story line had introduced and an actors rle playing the character caught viewes attention

I beleieve even many shows which are doing badly have good storyline but the actors acting that character may not appeal audiences..

Imagine if u see is gold Astitva Ek Prem kahani , Saloni ka safar have fanastic star cast that those times TRP was not a big deal,, Lekin abhi tho TRP is a big deal and viewers are the ones who judge what the character played is ti their mark.. and these are what they see as the final slate on the show ..

I am sure Bidaaii post leap had more story .. But since they had many shows in pipeline they had to end it at that point but they also say ki they will come back and time is not yet set so wonder after they clean their pipeline and see the performance they will bring their old show back.. What is the objective is to see what the viwers taste is like while leaving a good show which is succeeded to stay consistent and stay on No 1 position to be axed well ..

I am just going to see which show folows this strategy ,,,

@sami..thanks for article..
old is gold and mostly balaji shows have created history by getting viewers attention atcertain time...finally the era of these shows over when DKP-RS bring bidaai a new concept on screen.instantly it got viewers interest..
TRP great as it something new given to the viewers whom at a time were fed up with these streotyped shows..
doing good in the long run when story needed a leap.next to keep the show going as it had a good audience..bring a new storyline and one new character in the show..
where other shows with leap struggle to be in the limelight or lose viewership here it was different.it kept its good position in the ratings always in the top 5..
so conclusion is all comes to TRP.. storyline.. characterisation. .thats wat happenned with bidaai leap..storyline and plus point the character of anmol took the limelight and viewers stayed loyal to the show..
only the channel had a different insight ..got it off air when it was at its level best..so much potential was there in the storyline and above all the character of anmol and new couple angini..
at the end its like ...its their bussiness.their money invested and they do wat they want..do viewers opinion count thats the big question?...
thats how we viewers lost such a beautiful show in the prime time slot.leap of bidaai..

Tx for sharing..

If BV can continuee with all the ups and downs and still keep steady Bidaaii had every right to continue I hope Bidaaii returns as they say in the articles..since no show is axed at No1 secondly post leap helped the show boost up and not dissapoint the viewrs..

The script and focus on characters of the show proved that people accepted the fact that the show was so popular with the viewers and it still kept its stand with the audience and went on to understand the depth of the new characters added..

If TRP's are the criteria with the shows at stake , Bidaaii should be back with the performance they showed in the leap as they gave a boost and did'nt let down the viwers..

If they bring new shows on SP people will see if a few days and then leave watching it and stick to the long running shows, I wonder which other show will keep running more than the episodes which Bidaaii aired on SP..

If they gain TRP's then they survive but if they loose TRP's they will be axed.. looks like its a thumb rule..
and if a good show with good TRP's is axed for shows which struggle even after months they are still running even though they had high expectations thats also so unfair ..
Channel should be consistent with their methodologies...

Changes in script will work with shows which will appeal audience if the actor and character are convincing.. For me postleap worked because of certian character for which the script and actor and character worked.. I hope they continue Bidaaii from where it left off and they should bring it back as it was convincing for the audience and people liked the change.

I agree.. Quality mattered...Intitally They focused on tracks which was not giving a boost to teh show... buit later when the character was given focus i.e. Anmol's stroy his interaction with Ragini and the child the audience caought up with it...Thats what gave a quality part for teh show..but the good aspect is teh viewers were focused on the change and the storyline and it boosted the shows performance..

If they say they write stories for atleast 2 years for a show or even with leap and the viewers do expect that the story is incomplete its the loss of the viewers when they axe a show which have been convincing...So the channel made a wrong decision to axe the show I only hope they act fast and bring it back with the continuation..
But with Starplus and its so called traits it will take them their own sweet time..

They will say it will be brough back at its appropriate time so wonder when that will happen as for a veiwer who has seen changes and found it convincing seems to be waiting for the continuation and a new outlook even though the show was airing well

Rozy I agree.. If the show is in the rising track see the rise then room should be given to growth ..It showed in its performance and continued with it ..

Unlike shows which may have great cast or good storyline but again what the viewers are convinced with watching something which dose'nt seem rght .. I heard the show which replaced Bidaai will go of air next month mid and a new show will take its place

If TRP is the criteria for any show then why should it end and give way of a new show if the show is still an eye ball catcher ...

So the logic still holds good that Bidaaii did well post leap , defiantly had more story and potential and they were already advancing towards it but then inspite of being consistent and staying on top they axed it..

Starplus is flooding with new shows , If CB can make a season two getting its TRP's for the first season fair enough for thr staisfaction of their channel, Starplus should definatly stop advertising new shows and bring a popular show which gave them a boost with a leap to return with the people who gave the audience room to see their potentail and continuation from where it left of..

Looks like as long as starplus is showing growth it will be adamant to keep going with its ideologies..and we will have to wait longer.

WHen they write such articles the fact is out but then the channels have their own defensive rules they apply
