"Egocentrism" is the extensive and continuous use of the "I, ME, MYSELF" words, its a reflection of ones personality. While conversing with a person, one can easily make out the basic nature of that person, simply by listening whether the person comfortably uses the word " main/I " or the word "hum/WE", whether the person stands there with head held high and derives pleasure when people appreciate him/her or make excuses to make a move out of that place, so as to stay humble at heart.....

Egocentrism is a common phenomenon and its considered natural till the age of seven. But beyond the age, some people still hold back to this concept and always use the words "main/mera"...Like "if I am there, nothing can happen", "I can stop this", "I'll do this and get the credit"...its always I, me, myself rather than we/usourselves....

The behaviour of an egocentric is time and circumstance dependent, they never remain consistent, whatever the situation might be,
good or bad, they always use words "main/mera".

Unconsciously, these sort of persons always see a competition with anyone, and tries to prove themselves superior by trying to control situations and people associated. The egocentric is shallow, often lacking the staying power to achieve long range goals. Defensive, easily angered, jealous, they suffer living in the comparatively small world of fragile ego, they always try to balance and satisfy both groups.

Just like a negative vice grows unintentionally in a person, similarly this continuous use of "main/mera" very often grow to become a "large ego", especially when the word "main" is used too much. A true humble person is one, who never boasts of her good intentions or good doings, rather let actions speak
, a true humble gesture is one, where the person does "Karma" silently and leaves that "Karma" to be judged by God...

I opened this topic for the different character analyses of Bidaai...
who is extreme egocentric,
who is just hanging at the threshold of egocentrism and "self respect" and
who is indeed humble, just opposite of egocentrism...

The CTs really have sketched these three groups very well and have also maintained these three categories distinctly...Most of the characters as per me fall into the second category...

undeniably Vasu falls in the first one, she might have changed her attitude for Sadhna lately, but that part of "holding head high" and looking down at people still is predominant in her looks and gestures..

@Bani:

Beautiful topic Bani. Its filled with indepth analysis of human behavior.

This is why I say to some of my friends, that Serials or movies are not always time killers ... sometimes they can be taken as a moving literature. Just as a book would never kill ones time ... a moving picture would not kill ones time either, if that person looks at it with a mature and indepth view.

Now coming to the topic ... one place I would like to add ... There are more claimants in Bidaai for the FIRST CATEGORY (extreme egocentric) that you have so wonderfully presented. While yes, a huge can fall for the MIDDLE part .... while we know, there is ONE TRUE DOVE who can lead the third category.

As for the children who are hanging with "I/main" till 7, I think it should not be taken for granted. My nephew (when 5) used to come forward and offer us his toys! ... When other children would come around him, I've seen him bring his toys for them. Whats even more beautiful is that when my sister asked him to give one of his toys to her KAAM WALI BAIs son (who was really crazy after one of my nephews favorite toy), he happily gave it to him ... and hugged his mother in joy~! ...

So?... What do we learn from this? (- NOT THAT KASHIF BOASTS ABOUT THIS NEPHEW AND NEICE 🤣) ... We learn that giving and sacrificing ... being humble and honest ... learning to feel the feelings of someone else .... IS NOT DEPENDENT UPON AGE ... its something that is born inside. This quality is there in every little heart ... we only need to water it and wash it ... encourage it ... so that it grows and resist the DUST AND MUD of the Material Kingdom.

Often parents have a role to play ... they can be examples in their home. They can teach their children the real meanings of joy ... A Father and a Mother should be loving and caring for EACH OTHER INSIDE THE RELATIONSHIP ... should support and encourage charity ... should not behave as though they are giving CHARITY, but behave as if they are just doing their duty towards their own kind - Human Kind. A duty which is each and every righteous persons moral responsibility.

However, note here, if one parent is SELFISH, SELF CENTERED, RESIST GOODNESS, SPREAD DOUBT, TRY TO SOW THE SEED OF HATRED, MIX POISON, etc etc ... then all the goodness of a kind Father (in our story's case) gets spoiled. Its just a part of life ... one rotten tomatoe, one point of rust ... its all that is required really ... to instill EGOCENTRISM in any of those levels into the heart of an innocent baby ... and this tree grows into a monster.

But ofcourse ... their are exceptional children ... but those are not many ... and in this time and age ... they face the world against them.

Now lets come to the humble ... I felt I should write why and how and etc ... but I feel just one name to be uttered ... SADHNA.

Yes, see her ... see why she is like this. Her load, her responsibilities ... her reasons and her mission. Her life and her background ... her duty and her debt... plus the blessing that she is ... plus the grace of God on a whole family - Sharmaji's prayers landed him with a TRUE ANGEL ... but this angel also had to fall in love. Thorns were her fate ... but when such a CHASTE FEET fell on thorns ... what else could thorns do but become ROSES ...

... Now I am lost in Sadhna ... I cant write more...

Thanks for such a topic... 👏

true..Sadhna definitely falls in the humble category...she tries to keep trouble away from others, by standing between the trouble and her beloved. She never stands to enjoy the appreciation that is being showered. The way she forgave everyone after how they misbehaved is indeed plausible...I have seen seen her uttering the word 'Main"...she always uses "Hum"...there lies her unique quality...

Actually her ever forgiving nature sometime give a wrong message...and people take her for granted...

But she does her Karma...and she trusts only God to do justice to her...she is a true God-believer and follower...

Well, you guys have written so beautifully about different types of human behavior and Sadhna. Totally agree with you guys.

Being Sadhna is very difficult as one needs to have that much strength. But, one thing which I feel most difficult is not to get affected by anyone's words / actions. Dont know how she tolerated all the wrong words against her. It is very difficult to keep calm hearing those.

true, yesterday I was watching that party scene, when Ragini got mad to see Sadhna in that RH (OLD) and then Alekh dancing with Mallika...I mean how big a heart is required to forgive all these persons...she made everything so easy for everyone...

True... I remember once she told mamaji (when Alekh came to KN to take her to jail to meet Ranveer as he insisted and mamaji denied sending her with him) about forgiveness and how much it is needed to avoid unnecessary clash between people. Actually she told this also taught by him, but mamaji being Sadhi's father got very angry seeing everyone's selfish nature and couldnt remember what he has taught her. It is very difficult to practice everything what we learn at such situations. One needs to have such a strong mentality and a big heart to follow the path of truth under any circumstances.

that she is extraordinary can never be considered her "weakness". All these make her "Sadhna", the character...people should aspire to become like her, who never boasts in front of everyone as "I did this"...how things she did in secrets to improve the quality of lives of others...can she be really overtaken by entering into a competition with her, with a mentality " lets do some noble actions"...No, never, she is born with that quality, God never put that "main/mera" mode in her...

think of the incident when she jumped into the fire to save Vasu? just unbelievable...to criticise a character like Sadhna, is like criticising God's special creation//
