Navri and her eternal victimisation
Hi everyone,
Wish you all a very happy and colourful Holi!
I am new to this forum and I hope people accept and enjoy my company!
There is another Holi myth popularly believed in South India.According to the myth, Lord Shiva's wife Sati burns herself to death due to her guilt of marrying without the consent of her father. This angers Lord Shiva and he starts meditating to calm himself down. The world balance is upset because of Shiva's absence (from his duties) and thus Sati takes re-birth as Goddess Parvati to wake Shiva up and win his heart. After several unsuccessful attempts, she goes to Lord Kamadeva (Lord of passion/love) and asks him to help her. Kamadeva risks his life and wakes Shiva up from his meditation. Disturbed in his trance, Lord Shiva opened his third eye that fired anger and instantly incinerated Kamadeva. It is said that it was on Holi that Kamadeva sacrificed himself for the sake of people and love. Lord Shiva realizes his mistake and grants Kamadeva his immortal soul representing the true emotional and spiritual state of love. People still offer sandalwood paste to Kamadeva to relieve from his stinging burns and mango blossoms that he loved on Holi.
Thank you 😊
