The reign of the Saas bahu sagas, that ruled television in recent years, is finally over. And now, mindless family dramas with unbelievable storylines have been shown the door and new innovative serials focusing on social issues are finally getting noticed. Here's what our telly actors had to say about this change.
Ashita Dhawan: People are fed up of saas bahus now' overdose ho gaya hai uska, that's the reason they are not working. The audience has gotten used to the saas bahu angle and now they want a change.
Shilpa Shinde: Change is the ultimate fact of life. Saas bahus have ruled for quite some time and now it's the time for the 'betiyaan' shows to take over. And you never know for how long these will be liked either. The trend may change in a few years.
Rahul Lohani: People have been watching saas bahu shows on TV for almost ten years now and it has reached saturation point. There was a time when these serials were always on top but times have changed and now new shows have replaced the soap operas.
Chaitanya: The market is changing: people's preferences have changed and there is a shift in the demand for certain types of shows. At the end of the day, change is important. Audiences are bored of watching saas bahu serials for so long and now they want something new. Channels like Real have some good content. They are coming up with new shows which are doing well. There's a change in the demand now and you never know, even that may change in the future.
Kishwar Merchant: There's a shift in the audience preference; they're going from saas bahu dramas to new and fresh shows. For example, Real has come up with a show called Namak Haram and Star Plus has Bidaai. These shows are doing well. Once concept cannot be shown forever; change is needed.
