Why is there no self respect?

It seems that the only person in the entire Bidaai cast who has any self respect and honor is Mamaji and to a certain degree ragini (who stood up for her family against her potential in-laws when they were insulting her family)
Does being a good indian daughter and bahu really means that you are not allowed to stand up to wrong deeds in others? Is crying the only refuge of a 'good indian girl'? I would have respected Sadhna so much more today if she had stood up to vasu instead of crying like a helpless baby.
My parents also taught me to be loving and respectful of my elders, but i hope their upbringing also gave me the strength to oppose injustice instead of crying buckets about it!! very very disappointed in the portrayal of indian womanhood on television who has no backbone nor self-respect, who takes everything in the name of sacrifice and purity..............Is this the way we hope our daughters or sisters would act in the time of their crisis?.

poor Raghini.. she needs a boost. I hope she will win her competition and make a living with her talent.

I am too upset to comment about being strong enough to stand up against Vasu. Raghini doesnt have strong supporter to go against Vasu.

The whole idea is to be able to stand up for urself so tht when the world is against you then u hv only urself to depend on.....

I think just because you don't say anything back makes you any less of a strong woman. Sadhna and Ragini were raised in the same house with same values. Sometimes some people are in control of there anger, and know by uttering insults back will only make the situation better. I luved Mahatama Gandhi ji, who believed in winning people over with love. For example you attract more bees to a honey than salt. Silence can work at times.

yeah i know... u meant to stand up for herself but then look at her... She is taunted for being dusky skin and called 'ugly' .. she doesnt have high self esteem and feel afraid someone might hurt her... Sadhna has Aalekh to support her and he loves her very much, but Raghini doesnt have someone to share her feeling with as yet...
I dont think her silence means she is weak.. And I agree with Priya. Sadhna and Raghini were brought up with loving enviroment therefore it is pretty uneasy for them to deal with someone mean like Vasu.

Sadhna was not controlling her anger or using silence wisely. she was feeling helpless and crying was the only thing she could do. I know you like sadhna a lot, but tell me, if you were in her place would you just be crying in a corner and begging someone to stop insulting your parents, or actually get a backbone and stand up to them........

The question is how he stood up to them. I actually was referring to the movie Munabhai with Sanjay Dutts character. I normally don't cry when someone is being rude to me, especially if someone is being rude to my family because that's my personality. I have learned through experience that you don't always have to show your backbone. But Vasu is Sadis family now, so she treating her like her mom. Sadhna would not show her backbone towards Mamaji or Mamiji, she would probably handle the situation in a loving manner. So Sadhna is showing a lot of respect
